Abstract: streptococcus suis is a pathogen that affects the industrial production of swine worldwide. it is extremely important, because it is associated with pigs and humans diseases. the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of streptococcus suis type 2 in 201 samples of tonsils from clinically healthy animals by the pcr technique. the samples positive for s. suis type 2 were tested for the gene encoding extracellular factors (ef). the results showed that the prevalence (23.38%) was higher than other recent survey in the state, demonstrating that the pcr is a more sensitive method in relation to the bacterial isolation. there was a low occurrence of ef* gene in samples (1.49%) showing great importance to local swine population, because negative strains are potentially less virulent that positive strains.
Corrosion Resistance of Zn and Zn-Ni Electrodeposits: Morphological Characterization and Phases Identification  [PDF]

Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2013.410079
Abstract:

Zinc alloys coatings formed with elements of group VIIIB are promising because they display similar properties and protect steel by galvanic action. The Zn-Ni alloy is remarkable by showing improved mechanical properties and better corrosion resistance when compared to zinc coatings of similar thickness, also can be applied at higher temperatures. In this work, electrodeposits of Zn, Zn-12%Ni, obtained upon SAE 1010 steel from commercial alkali baths, were treated by blue chromatization and characterized according to mechanical properties and morphology. Studies were carried out by using measures of hardness, roughness, SEM, EDS and XRD. Among the studied electrodeposits, alloys treated by chromatization showed higher corrosion resistance and Zn-Ni electrodeposits showed higher value of roughness and hardness, while zinc coating had results similar to the steel substrate By means of XRD, it was found that electrodeposits are crystalline, being identified in Zn-Ni alloy the presence of the phases g(Ni5Zn21) and d(Ni3Zn22), which are responsible for its higher corrosion resistance.

Formation of TiO2 Nanotube Layer by Anodization of Titanium in Ethylene Glycol-H2O Electrolyte  [PDF]

Abstract:

In orthopaedics and orthodontics, the growth of nanotubes of titanium oxide on titanium implants is a promising route for improving the osseointegration. Among the fabrication routes to produce nanotubes, anodization was generally preferred due to its simplicity and low cost. TiO2 nanotubes are formed by the simultaneous anodic reaction and chemical dissolution due to the fluoride species present in the anodization bath. In this work, the formation of TiO2 nanotubes was studied in stirred ethylene glycol-H2O electrolyte (90 - 10 v/v) containing NH4F at room temperature. In order to study the effect of NH4F concentration, voltage and anodization time, and to reduce the number of experiments, a design of experiments (DOE) based on a 2k factorial design with four replicates at the center point was used. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to evaluate the effects of the factors of control and their interactions on the percentage of the titanium surface coated by nanotubes. The dimensions of nanotubes (length and diameter) were also evaluated using field emission gun scanning electron microscopy. The cristallinity and phase composition of the oxide layers was investigated by X-ray diffractometry. The electrochemical behavior of as-received and anodized titanium specimens was studied in Ringer’s solution. The statistical analysis showed that fluoride concentration is the most significant factor. The best condition according to the response surface analysis is the center point (1% NH4F, 20 V, 2 h). The nanotubular oxide layers presented an amorphous structure. Electrochemical tests showed that TiO2 nanotubes coated titanium is less corrosion resistant than

A Bíblia como Constitui??o ou a Constitui??o como Bíblia? Projetos para a constru??o do Estado-Na??o em Timor-Leste
Silva, Kelly Cristiane da;
Horizontes Antropológicos , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-71832007000100010
Abstract: the article focus on the conflicts which took place in east timor in 2005, between the catholic church and the government, regarding the role of the religious teaching in the basic school curriculum. the analysis indicates that the debates built around this issue express different state-nation building projects for that country, so as disputes among different groups in relation to their roles in the independency process. we propose that the events should be understood as a product of the itinerary of certain sectors of the timorese people during the indonesian occupation of the territory. we point, that way, to the singular position of the counter-diasporas, former members of the diplomatic front, to whom the catholic church (self proclaimed as representative of the "insiders") now opposes. the protests also pointed to a still incipient debate on the building of a national memory, the catholic church claiming for a correct acknowledge, by the state, of its own role against the indonesian occupation.
A coopera??o internacional como dádiva: algumas aproxima??es
Silva, Kelly Cristiane da;
Mana , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-93132008000100006
Abstract: the article proposes that some of the key practices in the area of international cooperation for development can be better understood in terms of a gift regime. to this end, it compares ethnographic data relating to the modus operandi of the aid sector in east timor with the legacy of marcel mauss and the recent production of m.a.u.s.s.. international aid policies are shown to be important means for establishing hegemony in negotiation spaces in which different actors construct identities and relations of alliance, honour and precedence. in this debate, it is argued that east timor?s biggest countergift to the international community has been to function as an instrument through which values cherished by aid donors, expressed in western myths of good society, can once again be cultivated in the process of building a new nation state.
A na??o cordial: uma análise dos rituais e das ideologias oficiais de "comemora??o dos 500 anos do Brasil"
Silva, Kelly Cristiane da;
Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092003000100010
Abstract: this paper discusses the events organized by brazilian state to celebrate the so called "500 years of brazil's discovery", between 1998 and 2000. it seeks to identify the ideologies found in these activities, which revealed the images of the nation. it shows that those activities were critical events for the brazilian nation-building process. taking for analysis documents, discourses, exhibitions, museums, and others, the paper suggests the rituals performed at those "celebrations" retake the brazilian myth of the "three races" and a kind of lusotropicalist ideal, making possible the reediting of the idea of a "racial democracy" by brazilian state.
The “vision with” André: narrator and narrative focus in Lavoura arcaica
Cristiane Fernandes da Silva
Via Litterae , 2011,
Abstract: This paper presents an interpretation of the novel Lavoura arcaica, by Raduan Nassar, regarding the elements narrator and narrative focus. It aims to investigate how the discourse produced and controlled by the narrator's memory as a productive source builds the organization of the text. From the standpoint of narratology, this paper demonstrates how André, the main character, manipulates and leads the narrative through the characterization of time, space and characters ughout. Throughout the work were used the theories of Genette on categories of narrator and time, of Bachelard into space, and finally that of Pouillon for the characterization of narrative focus.
