Nucleation and growth process of sodalite and cancrinite from kaolinite-rich clay under low-temperature hydrothermal conditions
Reyes, Carlos Alberto Ríos;Williams, Craig;Alarcón, Oscar Mauricio Castellanos;
Materials Research , 2013, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14392013005000010
Abstract: the synthesis of low-silica zeotypes by hydrothermal transformation of kaolinite-rich clay and the nucleation and growth processes of sodalite and cancrinite in the system na2o-al2o3-sio2-h2o at 100 a°c were investigated. the synthesis products were characterized by x-ray powder diffraction (xrpd), scanning electron microscopy (sem), fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (ft-ir), 29si and 27al magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (mas-nmr) and thermogravimetric analysis (tga). our data show that the sequence of the transformation of phases is: poorly crystalline aluminosilicate a?’ zeolite lta a?’ sodalite a?’ sodalite + cancrinite a?’ cancrinite. synthesized materials appeared stable thermodynamically under the experimental conditions, with zeolite lta (a metastable phase) occurring as a minor phase, compared with the presence of sodalite and cancrinite.
Synthesis of zeolite LTA from thermally treated kaolinite
Ríos Reyes,Carlos Alberto; Williams,Craig Denver; Castellanos Alarcón,Oscar Mauricio;
Revista Facultad de Ingeniería Universidad de Antioquia , 2010,
Abstract: x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, 29si and 27al nuclear magnetic resonance and thermogravimetric analyses have been used to examine the synthesis of zeolite lta and associated phases from metakaolinite. however, the synthesis product was controlled by the experimental method, taking into account that the classic hydrothermal transformation of the starting material produced a mixture of different zeolite-type structures, whereas the alkaline fusion approach promoted the crystallization of pure zeolite lta.

Abstract: This paper presents the results of a research project on the linguistic and cultural integration of Romanians in an industrial cluster in Catalonia. Fieldwork was undertaken in the area of Montsià (a semi-rural location in southern Catalonia). The furniture firms located there form a cluster of specialised, complementary and labour intensive companies. The use of a foreign labour force (Romanians) that accepts low work and employment standards is the basis of the competitiveness of the cluster. Spanish and Catalan are learnt not because of production or job requirements but because they are assets for integration in the local community.
Newspapers Coverage of Spain and the United States: A Comparative Analysis  [PDF]
Antonio V. Menéndez Alarcón
Sociology Mind (SM) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/sm.2012.21009
Abstract: This article assesses the content of foreign news coverage in the United States and Spain. It draws on content analysis of two U.S. and two Spanish newspapers over a 28-month period, during 2005-2007 and in 2009. The results show that the content of these newspapers tends to be more negative when covering politics. However, there was a major change in the type of coverage in the Spanish newspapers from the period 2005-2007 to 2009. Coverage of U.S. politics in 2009 was much more positive than in the previous period studied. These findings suggest that newspapers contribute to an overall unfavorable representation of these countries for their respective populations. Also, when covering international news, newspapers are less independent from their government agendas than they claim; supporting critical research findings that mainstream media is vulnerable to “news management” by the government.
The Marian Illustrations of the Legend of Montserrat
Alarcón, Concepción
Revista de Dialectología y Tradiciones Populares , 2008,
Abstract: The books telling the story of Montserrat used to contain illustrative engravings. Montserrat presents us with a special case, because this monastery holds an uninterrupted record of illustrated texts or of texts with engraved images from the miniatures of the Llibre Vermell and the first fruits of the printing press to the 19th century. Admittedly, in the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries the books exhibit the engravings on the cover or within the first sheets; it is only in the 19th century that illustrations appear inserted in the text so as to make the story more agreeable. The images intensify the value of texts, since illustrations can help us understand the written word and may suggest other readings of the corresponding passages, clearer and more precise. Illustrations in the books on the history of a monastery are but a part of a larger set of ideas, projects and self-service which the Church aims at the reader. Furthermore, the iconographic models of the Virgin Mary and the Mountain are of great interest for the history of engraving and of the Catalan and Spanish devotions.
Alarcón Meneses,Luis;
Investigación y Desarrollo , 2010,
Abstract: in spite of the diverse vicissitudes confronted by the colombian governments in principles of the century xx, these tried to generate a modernization process that included so much the city as the rural world and which necessarily happened to give continuity to the process of formation of citizen initiated in the xix century. they applied a series of actions and educative programs directed to the rural population and with which they were tried to foment new agricultural practices, to generate new habits social and a citizen culture that allowed them to leave the ostracism in which was great part of the colombian population. but this type of actions had to face the weakness of the state to carry out the policies of educative modernization, as well as to the local influence that the tradition even presents/displays in imaginary of the society the farmer, and to the strong opposition and rejection of the great proprietors, politicians and the church that saw in those actions a challenge that put into danger the control and power exerted on the rural population.
Programa multimedia para la ense?anza de las operaciones unitarias: absorción y extracción líquido-líquido
Rennola Alarcón,Leonardo;
Educere , 2006,
Abstract: the inclusion of animations, photographs or a realistic video can activate the senses in a way that it widens the possibility of fixating more information in one class session. sensorial perception can increase in 20%, if it is only auditive, up to 80% if an interactive element is included (wolf, 1996). understanding the importance of the use of computers as a helpful tool for teaching, a multimedia program was created, following the methodology explained by dick and carey in fenrich (1997), that gathers in a systematic and organized way all the information on unitary operations on liquid-liquid absorption and extraction, basic in any chemical engineer ’s learning. three computer packages were used: visual basic 6.0?, for the calculation programs, flash 5.0?, to create the animations and director 8.0?, to ensemble all the multimedia applications. the module was structured in a simple way with a pleasant interface so that the user could have easy and enjoyable access. the teaching module is expected to become a support tool for professors and students, contributing in this way to improving university education in venezuela.
