Analysis of Control Measures for Settlement of Differences on the Problems of Highway Subgrade Widening  [PDF]

Abstract: The study mainly discusses the issues of the settlement of differences that occurs in the process of highway subgrade widening. Firstly, it briefly introduces the settlement of difference and its harms; then it analyzes the mechanism of settlement of differences in the process of difference widening, including four aspects: the new and old roadbeds themselves, design, construction and other links; finally, based on the above analysis of the mechanism, it discusses the corresponding control measures, mainly proposing these suggestions as followings: the use of lightweight materials, the foundation treatment, the cut slope excavation steps, and the strict control of the degree of compaction, etc. The paper is expected to provide some theoretical basis for the control measures of highway subgrade widening settlement of difference.

Abstract: A system of ordinary differential equations, which describe various aspects of the interaction of HIV with healthy cells in fast progressive patient, is utilized, and an optimal control problem is constructed to prolong survival and delay the progression to AIDS as far as possible, subject to drug costs. Optimal control problem is approximated by linear programming model using measure theoretical approach and suboptimal combinations of reverse transcriptase inhibitor (RTI) and protease inhibitor (PI) drug efficacies are proposed. The Comparison of healthy CD4+ Tcells counts, virus particles and immune response, before and after the treatment is introduced.
A Measure Theoretical Approach for Path Planning Problem of Nonlinear Control Systems  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents a new approach to find an approximate solution for the nonlinear path planning problem. In this approach, first by defining a new formulation in the calculus of variations, an optimal control problem, equivalent to the original problem, is obtained. Then, a metamorphosis is performed in the space of problem by defining an injection from the set of admissible trajectory-control pairs in this space into the space of positive Radon measures. Using properties of Radon measures, the problem is changed to a measure-theo- retical optimization problem. This problem is an infinite dimensional linear programming (LP), which is approximated by a finite dimensional LP. The solution of this LP is used to construct an approximate solution for the original path planning problem. Finally, a numerical example is included to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Abstract: Mashhad, the second largest city in Iran, like many other big cities, is faced with increasing traffic congestion owing to rapidly increasing population and annual pilgrimage. In recent years, Mashhad traffic and transportation authorities have been challenged with how to manage the increasing congestion with limited budgets for major roadway construction projects. Mashhad has recognized the need to improve the existing system capacity to get the most out of their cur- rent transportation system infrastructures. Since most of the delay times occur at signalized intersections, using an intelligent control system with proper capabilities to overcome the growing traffic requirements is recommended. Following comprehensive studies carried out with the aim of developing the Mashhad traffic control center, the SCATS adaptive traffic control system was introduced as the selected intelligent control system for integrating signalized intersections. The first intersection was equipped with this system in 2005. This paper describes the results of a field evaluation in which fixed actuated-coordinated signal timings are compared with those dynamically computed by SCATS. The ef- fects of this system on optimizing fuel consumption as well as reducing air pollutants are fully discussed. It is found that SCATS consistently reduced travel times and the average delay per stopped or approaching vehicle. The positive impact of adaptive traffic control systems on fuel consumption and air pollution are also highlighted.

Abstract: In this paper, a novel strategy using embedding process and sliding surface is proposed. In this method, a state trajectory starting from a given initial point reaches a definite point on a sliding surface in the minimum time, and then tends to the origin along the sliding surface (SS). In the first, a SS is designed, then using an appropriate measure, an embedding is constructed to solve a time optimal control problem such that the system trajectory reaches the SS in minimum time, after that a control is designed such that the system trajectory tends to the origin along the SS. It is well-known that the main disadvantage of the use of sliding mode controls (SMCs) is a phenomenon, the so-called chattering. The proposed SMC here is piecewise continuous and chattering free. Some numerical examples is presented to illustrate the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method.
Matrix Measure with Application in Quantized Synchronization Analysis of Complex Networks with Delayed Time via the General Intermittent Control  [PDF]

This paper concerned with the quantized synchronization analysis problem. The scope of state vectors of dynamic systems, based on the matrix measure, is estimated. By using the general intermittent control, some simple yet generic criteria are derived ensuring the exponential stability of dynamic systems. Then, both the general intermittent networked controller and the quantized parameters can be designed, which guarantee that the nodes of the complex network are synchronized. Finally, simulation examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method.

Research on the Relationship between Control Index of Development and Construction Projects and Measure Allocation

This article based on the analysis of the development and construction projects for control measures layout principle, analyzed the influence factor of the control goal, and researched control goal, control index, benefit analysis and measure allocation relation. It puts forward that control goal is the minimum requirement plan of soil and water conservation measures. Benefit analysis is control index to achieve the plan of soil and water conservation measures, and measures allocation is method to achieve control goal. 

Chagas infection transmission control: situation of transfusional transmission in Brazil and other countries of Latin America

Abstract: The transmission of the transfusion-associated Chagas disease is an important mechanism of its dissemination in several Latin American countries. The transmission risk depends on five factors: prevalence of infection in blood donors, degree of serological coverage, sensibility of used tests, safety of obtained results and infection risk. The Southern Cone Iniciative set off by the Pan-American Health Organization, in 1991, is contributing to the implementation of blood law in each endemic country, and to reduce the risk of transfusional transmission of this horrible disease. Despite the clear improvement of Brasilian hemotherapy after 1980 (with the creation of the Blood National Program - Pró-Sangue) and the significant reduction of the chagasic infection among its blood donors; socio-economic, politic and cultural unlevels, prevent it from reaching the necessary universality and security. In order to assure both, the Brazilian Ministry of Health decided to restructure its blood system. In May, 1998, a great program was launched, to reach a specific goal: Blood - 100% with quality safety in all its process until 2003. It was divided in 12 projects, intends to guarantee the quality and self sufficiency in blood and hemoderivates.

Abstract: In this study, we have a research of the design of can bus application in the process of papermaking. The design for an intelligent measure and control system based on the technology of CAN bus, is applied to detect and control the concentration of wood-pulp, the temperature of multistage dryer and other parameters in the process of papermaking, in order to meet the control requirements and characters for the study quality and ensure paper even and cohesive under the course of manufacturer. The intelligence of measure and control system has been predominantly researched in the article, including the proposal of intelligent control node and communication model, the design of hardware interface circuit in the intelligent measure and control node and the design of whole system.
A stochastic inventory model with perishable and aging items

Abstract: In this paper, we propose a single-product, discrete time inventory model for perishable items. Inventory levels are reviewed periodically and units in stock have a maximum lifetime of M periods. It is assumed that the dynamics of the inventory level is driven by a parameter process (reflecting perishability) and demands. By observing the history of the inventory level we obtain the conditional distribution of the perishability parameter by using the change of measure techniques. A special case is also presented.
