Abstract: family participation in the care of a hospitalized child, both regarding its forms and dimension, has been a theme of study in nursing. the objective of this study was to analyze the organization of both nursing care and family care to the hospitalized child. this qualitative research was performed using semi-structured interviews with nursing staff of a school-hospital. theme analysis was used to guide data organization. the results show that nursing care focuses on procedures. interaction with the children and their family is tangential to the caring process. families have shared responsibilities with the staff but have not been recognized as a co-participant or been included into the caring perspective. efforts should be made to create bonds to promote a logic regarding the process of work within the integrality perspective and to rescue the caring dimension of nursing.
Ambulatório de quimioterapia pediátrica: a experiência no aquário carioca

Abstract: the objective of this study was to report the nursing experience at a pediatric chemotherapy outpatient clinic that was decorated to be appealing to children (carioca aquarium). it is a descriptive experience report from a hospital in rio de janeiro, brazil, conducted between december, 2007, and may, 2008. the environment was decorated based on the (disney-pixar?) movie, "finding nemo" after an agreement between the institution and community representatives. carioca aquarium brought the act of playing to the treatment site. we observed that professionals were more motivated, care was facilitated, and relationships involved more dialogue when using recreational resources. in turn, children's agitation during procedures was minimized, nausea and vomiting was reduced, and the children's desire to remain in the room increased. the change of environment offered stimulating and fun activities to the children, bringing them distraction, calmness, security, and greater acceptance of their treatment. with this, the children were able to divert their focus from their disease.

Abstract: El objetivo del estudio es relatar la experiencia como enfermera en una quimioterapia pediátrica, decorada para ser atractiva para los ni os (Acuario Carioca). Se trata de un estudio de carácter descriptivo con relato de la experiencia vivida en un hospital de la ciudad de Rio de Janeiro,Brazil, entre diciembre de 2007 a mayo de 2008. La decoración del espacio se basó en la película "Buscando a Nemo" (Disney-Pixar ), después de un acuerdo entre la institución y la sociedad civil. El Acuario Carioca llevó la diversión al lugar de tratamiento. Se observó que los profesionales parecían más motivados, se facilitó la atención y las relaciones se han vuelto más dialógicas cuando se utilizan los recursos recreativos, reduciendo la agitación de los ni os durante los procedimientos, reducción de náuseas y vómitos, deseo de los ni os a permanecer en la sala. El cambio del espacio ofrece actividades estimulantes y divertidas, distracción, calma, seguridad y una mayor aceptación del tratamiento. Así, el ni o cambió su enfoque de la enfermedad.
Management of nursing’s care in pediatric ambulatory chemotherapy unit

Abstract: Objective: to present the activities performed by oncology nurses in a pediatric chemotherapy unit of a university hospital. Methodology: experience report at a pediatric chemotherapy unit in a school-hospital. We searched for publications in electronic databases to support discussions. This study has been approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Hospital Universitário Lauro Wanderley (124/08). Results: the authors pointed out the importance of these professionals to rethink about their professional practice and of management of care a way to implement the required changes. The nursing assistance starts at the moment of patient into the room, with attention to welcome. The assistance is the main activity, the others, administrative, information system, education, scientific and humanization, promote the better care. In the scene of a room of chemotherapy of a school-hospital, the nurses need to use its technical, scientific, administrative and practical knowledge, regarding pediatric oncology, in order to carry out the management of the care. Conclusion: management of care directed to pediatric cancer patient must be dynamic, according the actual situation and each institution’s reality, using full clinical judgment, decision, reflection, integration, creativity and knowledge of specific issues of each patient.

Abstract: Objetivou-se analisar as necessidades do familiar acompanhante na sala de quimioterapia do ponto de vista da crian a em tratamento. Estudo qualitativo, realizado em um hospital escola da cidade do Rio de Janeiro, entre abril e junho de 2010. Utilizou-se adapta o da técnica do desenho-estória temático para produ o do material empírico junto a sete crian as. A análise foi feita utilizando-se a interpreta o temática. As necessidades do familiar para a crian a em tratamento s o: estímulo para o rodízio entre os membros da família como cuidador da crian a; orienta o e treinamento para os diferentes membros da família que acompanham as crian as; conforto para o familiar permanecer ao lado da crian a; autonomia para o familiar; acolhimento ao irm o saudável; ambiente que proporcione aproxima o entre os pais separados para apoiar o filho em tratamento. Torna-se imprescindível a amplia o do foco assistencial restrito à crian a com cancer, expandindo a aten o da equipe de enfermagem aos familiares. El objetivo fue analizar las necesidades del familiar acompa ante en la sala de quimioterapia desde el punto de vista de los ni os en tratamiento. Estudio cualitativo. Se utilizó la técnica de lo dise o estoria con tema para recoletar datos con siete ni os con cáncer. El análisis se realizó mediante una interpretación temática. Para los ni os las necesidades de la familia son: estímulo a lo intercambio entre los miembros de la familia como los cuidadores del ni o; orientación y capacitación para los diferentes miembros de la familia que acompa an a los ni os; comodidad para la familia a permanecer con el ni o; autonomía de la familia; cuidado de lo hermano sano; medio ambiente proporciona la aproximación entre los padres divorciados. Es esencial ampliar el foco de atención del equipo de enfermería limitada a los ni os con cáncer para la familia. The purpose was to analyze the needs of the family companion that follows the child in the chemotherapy unit from the standpoint of the child in treatment. It was a qualitative study. We used the adaptation of drawing-story with themes for the production of empirical data from seven children with cancer. The analysis was done using a thematic interpretation. Abstract: this study aimed at investigating the influence of social network on adolescent coping with chronic conditions. qualitative research whose subjects were hospitalized adolescents who had a diagnosis of chronic disease for at least one year. data were collected through semi-structured interview and depositions were submitted to thematical analyses. this research highlights that the chronic condition in adolescence brings substantial effects on their lives. friends, teachers and health professionals are part of the social network. to promote autonomy it is necessary to include adolescents in care planning and to have a social network that supports them in various demands in different stages of illness.

Abstract: the objective of this study is to identify the conceptions of nurses who work with pediatric oncology concerning how their training and the further search for knowledge influences their professional practice. it is a qualitative, exploratory type study with semi-structured interviews applied to six nurses. the results were submitted to thematic analysis, which converged to the category, "subsidies that influence the pediatric oncology nursing care production". the results show that pediatric oncology performance demands professionals with responsibility, commitment, adequate preparation, and sensitivity to take care of the child at hand. care production has been grounded in the individual experiences of nurses and individual pursuit of knowledge, demonstrating the difficulties encountered in the training process and the importance of professional training. it is believed that these findings may support nursing training with a problematzing perspective and be able to promote comprehensive, humane, and efficient care for children diagnosed with cancer.

Abstract: the presence of the family is fundamental in the care of hospitalized child, because it is a source of protection and security by providing an environment less aggressive. the objective of this study was understood the concepts of the nursing staff about the mother's companion. this is an exploratory qualitative research, developed in a hospital relating to infant care in the northeast, held between april and may of 2007 through semi-structured interview. data were subjected to thematic analysis and the ethical respected. we identified that the mother is recognized as important person in supporting the child, but has not received proper care by healthy professionals. perceived as agents in the process work, the mother does not participate in decision making, but carries the responsibility of nursing care. so it is important that nursing reorient their work with the aim of building links and a comprehensive care.

Abstract: El objetivo del presente artículo es comprender el significado de la enfermedad crónica para los ni os en edad escolar. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa, exploratoria y descriptiva, desarrollada en la Clínica Pediátrica de un Hospital Universitario. Los participantes fueron siete ni os con enfermedades crónicas, de siete a doce a os de edad. Los datos se recolectaron a través de entrevista semi-estructurada, según los principios del análisis temático. Los resultados revelaron que los ni os sienten la enfermedad crónica como algo que impone limitaciones y dificultades en su vida diaria. Hubo informes de ni os que mostraron comprensión de la enfermedad como algo normal, demostrando que no saben cómo vivir sin la enfermedad. La enfermedad crónica lleva al ni o a esforzarse por tratar de comprender la situación y cooperar con el tratamiento, y puede promover el desarrollo de sentimientos, tales como: miedo, vergüenza, dolor y preguntas sobre el pasado, presente y futuro.
Reflections about legislation and public policies regarding to adolescent health

Abstract: Objective: to bring thoughts about public policies and legislation regarding adolescent health. Methodology: narrative literature review, built by bibliographical and documentarian research. We searched in LILACS, SciELO, BDENF and ADOLEC bases, from 2005 to 2009. The descriptors used: adolescent, public policy, health policy, adolescent health. The sample was composed of eleven articles and nine documents. Results: in 1985, WHO announced the international year of youth and Brazil was signatory, inferring in a national policy reorientation. Since then, there has been changes that influenced positively the construction of a governmental policy for health for teenagers. Its highlights were: promulgation of the Federal Constitution in 1988, creation of adolescent health program in 1989, institution of The Statute of Children and Adolescents in 1990. Even with rights established along this documents, essential to subside a qualified assistance to hospitalized adolescents, we observed that such rights are frequently violated or poorly respected. Conclusion: it′s believed that the practice of health regulations will be held if health professionals be aware of then, encouraging to demand its execution by the health institutions.
