Abstract: this paper focuses on an educational experiment with the use of a game, which was carried out with freshmen medical students from a public federal education institution. the game was used as a privileged strategy to appraise the students' communication, spontaneity, and sensitivity in the health educational process. through this game it was possible to broach the subject "mental health" to the students, and they have, as a result, expressed their feelings as beginners in a medicine course. this experience has led to the learning of both students and professors, what in a freirean perspective is seen as a dialogic process of mutual formation. its development prompted the rethinking of teaching in health, as well as subsidized the re-orientation of the process of preventing and promoting mental health by means of proposals and supporting programs to students already enrolled in the institution.

Journal of Transportation Technologies (JTTs) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jtts.2015.51004
Abstract: The present study corresponds to a descriptive research, whose objective seeks to determine the level of satisfaction of the population of Arequipa city, in respect of public works infrastructure executed in the Avenues Venezuela and Daniel Alcides Carrion. We designed a survey questionnaire which was applied to 384 people randomly for convenience, in the areas surrounding the road interchange. The results showed that a 65.10% believed that the infrastructure works had a positive impact, in addition to a 52.86% and 7.29% of people who were satisfied and very satisfied respectively, with the vial exchange carried out in the Avenues Venezuela and Daniel Alcides Carrion.
Strategies in tower solar power plant optimization

Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: A method for optimizing a central receiver solar thermal electric power plant is studied. We parametrize the plant design as a function of eleven design variables and reduce the problem of finding optimal designs to the numerical problem of finding the minimum of a function of several variables. This minimization problem is attacked with different algorithms both local and global in nature. We find that all algorithms find the same minimum of the objective function. The performance of each of the algorithms and the resulting designs are studied for two typical cases. We describe a method to evaluate the impact of design variables in the plant performance. This method will tell us what variables are key to the optimal plant design and which ones are less important. This information can be used to further improve the plant design and to accelerate the optimization procedure.
Heliostat blocking and shadowing efficiency in the video-game era
A. Ramos,F. Ramos
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: Blocking and shadowing is one of the key effects in designing and evaluating a thermal central receiver solar tower plant. Therefore it is convenient to develop efficient algorithms to compute the area of an heliostat blocked or shadowed by the rest of the field. In this paper we explore the possibility of using very efficient clipping algorithms developed for the video game and imaging industry to compute the blocking and shadowing efficiency of a solar thermal plant layout. We propose an algorithm valid for arbitrary position, orientation and size of the heliostats. This algorithm turns out to be very accurate, free of assumptions and fast. We show the feasibility of the use of this algorithm to the optimization of a solar plant by studying a couple of examples in detail.

Abstract: a pilot study for the control of bancroftian filariasis transmission was developed in two areas of recife, brazil, where microfilaraemic prevalence was 10% in 1991. mass treatment with diethylcarbamazine (dec) using low and spaced doses was employed in both areas. in one such instance, dec therapy was associated with vector control using physical measures and periodic treatment of culex breeding sites with the entomopathogen bacillus sphaericus. the vector population density, reaching 60 - 120 culex/room /night before the intervention, was drastically reduced to 4 - 16 culex/room/night, and maintained at this level for more than two years. actions to engage the local school community in the vector control process were implemented, and as a consequence several classroom and extracurricular activities were put into practice, culminating with the effective participation of a team of students called the "vector vigilantes", in the application of control measures against the vector. the enthusiastic involvement of schoolteachers and students pointed to schools as a place amenable to programs such as this.
Modulation of biological activities produced by an endophytic fungus under different culture conditions  [PDF]
Henrique Pereira Ramos, Suraia Said
Advances in Bioscience and Biotechnology (ABB) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/abb.2011.26065
Abstract: The effect of culture conditions on the production of bioactive secondary metabolites by the endophytic fungus Arthrinium State of Apiospora Montagnei Sacc. was investigated. Culture broths were partitioned with ethyl acetate and the resulting extracts were evaluated for antibacterial, antifungal, cytotoxic, and antiparasitic activities. The highest levels of activities were arisen from cultures cultivated at 30C in modified Czapek medium. The best antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (MIC 90 μg/ml), and against Aspergillus fumigatus (MIC 130 μg/ml) were found in extracts from cultures grown in medium containing 3.1% (w/v) sucrose and 0.1% (w/v) sodium nitrate at pH 4.0 after 9 days of incubation. Cultures grown in medium without modification also showed antiparasitic and antitumoral activities after 9 days at pH 4.0, antifungal activity against Candida albicans at pH 4.0 - 7.0 (MIC 140 μg/ml), but against A. fumigatus just after 27 days of incubation. A specific bioactive compound may have its production improved if the culture conditions parameters that affect or influence the production were known, which in turn makes the purification process easier.
Organic Monadology in Maupertuis  [PDF]
Maurício de Carvalho Ramos
Advances in Historical Studies (AHS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ahs.2015.41003
Abstract: The present paper aims to define the seminal parts in the generation theory in Pierre-Louis Moreau de Maupertuis’s System of nature as Leibnizian physical monads of a special type, organic monads, whose main characteristics are: 1) uniting, within the same explanatory system, epigenesis and preformation, following from an interpretation where initial conditions for epigenesis are a homogenous, non-organic seminal matter; 2) having psychic properties which give them a preformational character, allowing seminal parts to display a combination of material and representational morphologies, elaborated from a distinction between the substantial and relational character of chemical affinities proposed by Fran?ois-Geoffroy; 3) bringing, through the previous two characteristics, the System of nature to intelligibly express preexistence, a concept present in Maupertuis’ conjectures on the origins of the first organisms, where to a strongly naturalistic scenario, a supernatural cause is added—one consistent, within limits, with the natural indestructibility of the physical monad within a panspermic reading of the original Leibnizian monadology. Together, these characteristics allow us to define Maupertuis’s generation theory as an organic monadology, capable of expressing itself in other components of the modern sciences of life and the organic, revealing a historical continuity for the heuristics of Leibniz’s natural philosophy.

Abstract: Open government is a term that has been built socially for a long time; however it is from the promotion that the Obama administration from the United States realizes that it has achieved a high penetration in the political and public agenda of the various countries. The main concern of open government is to articulate efforts of government capacities and modernization of public administration, following the principles of transparency with high openness, participation and collaboration. The aim of this article is to analyze from philosophy the principles that should guide the model of governance and public administration to meet the ultimate goal of the state cosmos.
A desigualdade de rendimentos do trabalho no período pós-Real: o papel da escolaridade e do desemprego
Ramos, Lauro;
Economia Aplicada , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-80502007000200006
Abstract: this study evaluates the evolution of earnings inequality in brazil based on the 1995 to 2005 national household surveys - pnads. it describes the behavior of both size and per capita household distributions, assessing the influence of changes related to labor force schooling on the former and of unemployment rate variations on the latter. synthetic indicators, based on the theil t index, for schooling inequality and earnings profile show that the role of education was quite important for the fall in inequality along the current decade, although the indications are ambiguous for the previous one. regarding the unemployment rate, microsimulations exercises that impose either the 1995 rate or zero unemployment lead to a decrease in the gini coefficient. however, the reduction is not very significant, meaning that the role of unemployment is limited. taking together, the findings point to the need of a more detailed investigation of other factors, including those related to the labor market institutional framework, in order to develop a better understanding of the recent changes in brazilian earnings inequality.
