Abstract: Heart trauma caused by a firearm projectile is the most fatal of cardiac injuries due to the great potential for death. The increase in the number of cases in recent years is observed, due to the greater urban violence. We report the case of a patient, a victim of firearm perforation, who suffered a cardiac transfixing lesion, with clinical presentation and with an unusual cardiac injury, operated at our service with success.

Abstract: the bivalve family isognomonidae is represented in the western atlantic by the living genera crenatula lamarck, 1804 and isognomon solander, 1786. i. alatus (gmelin, 1791) and i. radiatus (anton, 1839) are the only isognomonidae referred to the brazilian malacofauna. the present work refers to the first record and geographic distribution of i. bicolor along the brazilian littoral, and presents a re-description of the species based on shell characters, which include those of the prodissoconch. the occurrence of i. alatus and i. radiatus along the brazilian littoral could not be confirmed, despite the intensive search for these isognomonidae from rio grande do norte through rio grande do sul.
Hole-Density Evolution of the One-Particle Spectral Function in Doped Ladders

Abstract: The spectral function $A({\bf q}, \omega)$ of doped $t-J$ ladders is presented on clusters with up to $2 \times 20$ sites at zero temperature applying a recently developed technique that uses up to $\sim 6 \times 10^6$ rung-basis states. Similarities with photoemission results for the 2D cuprates are observed, such as the existence of a gap at $(\pi,0)$ near half-filling (caused by hole pair formation) and flat bands in its vicinity. These features should be observable in ARPES experiments on ladders. The main result of the paper is the nontrivial evolution of the spectral function from a narrow band at $x=0$, to a quasi-noninteracting band at $x \geq 0.5$. It was also observed that the low-energy peaks of a cluster spectra acquire finite line-widths as their energies move away from the chemical potential.

Abstract: Background: Organic cellular inflammatory response constitutes a pathophysiological mechanism present in all Coronary Artery Bypass Graftings (CABGs). In this aspect, the organism brings forth its defenses through answers that involve cellular components. Objectives: To evaluate, in a randomized double-blind prospective study, controlled with placebo, the effects of trimetazidine (Tmz) on cellular response, analyzed through the variation of leukocytes, neutrophils and monocytes. Patients and Method: 30 patients were randomly selected to be studied, with no more than a mild ventricular dysfunction, and divided into two groups (Tmz and placebo) stratified by echocardiography and receiving medication/placebo in a 60 mg/day dose. The samples of leukocytes, neutrophils and monocytes were obtained in the pre-operatory day without medication, at surgery day with 12 to 15 days of medication/placebo, with 5 minutes after the aortic declamping, and within 12, 24 and 48 hours after surgery. Results: The leukocytes and neutrophils levels have decreased significantly in the treated group when compared to the control group, in all analyzed moments (p = 0.012; p = 0.005). Conclusions and Clinical Implications: Trimetazidine has proved to reduce significantly the levels of total leukocytes and neutrophils in patients submitted to CABG.

Abstract: objective: to evaluate the intra and inter and reproducibility of goniometry compared to photogrammetryin hand, comparing the angles of abduction of thumb flexion, flexion of proximal interphalangeal joint of the index finger and flexion of the metacarpophalangeal joint of the fifth finger. methods: the study included 30 volunteers were divided in to three groups, one group of 10 students of physiotherapy for 10 physiotherapist sand other third with 10 therapist shand. each examiner performed the measure mentsin the same mold by hand, using the goniometer and then two photogrammetry software, corel draw? and alcimagem?. results: the results revealed that the groups and the methods proposed inter examiner reliability have generally rated as excellent (icc 0.99895% ci0.995 to 0.999) in assessing rater was found excellent level of reliability among the three groups. incomparison between groups for each angle and each method, we found that there was no significant difference between groups for most measures. conclusion: goniometry and photogramme tryare reliable and reproducible methods to evaluate measures in hand. however, the scarcity of similar references, it requires detailed studies to define normal parameters of the methods in the joints of the hand. level of evidence ii, diagnostic study.
Mitochondrial DNA variation in wild populations of Leporinus elongatus from the Paraná River basin

Abstract: leporinus elongatus, a fish species widely distributed throughout the paraná river basin in south america, is an important fishery resource and a valuable species in aquaculture programs. despite its great economic importance, several wild populations have been suffering a drastic reduction. the comprehension of its population structure represents an important step for the conservation of these organisms in natural environments, and also for the selection of wild stocks to be used in hatchery programs. in order to understand the genetic-population structure of l. elongatus, d-loop mitochondrial dna analyses were applied in six wild populations of the species. the results were used to estimate the levels of within and among population genetic variability. although the d-loop variations could not be correlated to the geographic distribution of these organisms, it was possible to detect high levels of genetic variability within each population and the occurrence of exclusive population haplotypes, which suggests a partial genetic differentiation among them. the obtained data can be useful in selecting fish stocks that preserve a better genetic diversity of l. elongatus for use in conservation and/or hatchery programs.

Abstract: intrinsic (zno), al-doped (zno:al) and b-doped (zno:b) thin films were deposited by spray-pyrolysis on glass substrates. the influence of parameters such as doping concentration, substrate temperature (ts) and thermal processing under vacuum on the structural, optical and electrical properties of the films, was studied with the purpose to consider their application as transparent conductive oxides. electrical resistivity values of 1.21 x 10-2 and 6.97 x 10-3 w.cm were obtained for zno:al (1 at.% - ts = 550°c) and zno:b (0,5 at.%. - ts = 500°c) heat treated films, respectively, and an optical transmittance of 48%. the value of the figure of merit of these films indicated a light superiority of the zno:b film. in general, the heat treatment decreases the sheet resistance of the films from 3 to 4 orders of magnitude. the energy of optical gap varied from 3,00 to 3,30 ev.

Abstract: a trial was carried out to evaluate the broiler chicks performance fed with increasing sunflower meal levels. a total of 1200 one-day-old chicks were allotted in a completely randomized design with six treatments, four replicates and 50 birds by experimental unit. the treatments consisted on a corn, soybean meal based control diet (rt) and five others with 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50% of soybean meal protein replacement by sunflower meal protein. a quadratic effect of the sunflower meal levels on feed gain at initial phase, on feed intake and average weight gain at growing phase and on weight gain at total period were observed. in isoenergetic and isoaminoacid diets for digestible methionine+cystine and lysine, the soybean meal protein can be replaced by the sunflower meal protein up to 30% level, which corresponds to nearly 15% of sunflower meal inclusion in the broiler chicks diets.
Evidence of Shock Metamorphism Effects in Allochthonous Breccia Deposits from the Colônia Crater, São Paulo, Brazil  [PDF]

Abstract:

The 3.6 km-diameter Colonia impact crater, centred at 23\"\"52'03\"S and 46\"\"42'27\"W, lies 40 km to the south-west of the S?o Paulo city. The structure was formed on the crystalline basement rocks and displays a bowl-shaped with steeper slope near the top that decreases gently toward the centre of the crater. Over recent years were drilled two boreholes inside the crater, which reached a maximum depth of 142 m and 197 m. Geological profile suggests four different lithological associations: 1) unshocked crystalline basement rocks (197 - 140 m); 2) fractured/brecciated basement rocks (140 - 110 m); 3) polymictic allochthonous breccia deposits (110 - 40 m); and 4) post-impact deposits (40 - 0 m). Petrographic characterisation of the polymictic allochthonous breccia reveals a series of distinctive shock-metamorphic features, including, among others, planar deformation features in quartz, feldspar and mica, ballen silica, granular texture in zircon and melt-bearing impact rocks. The occurrence of melt particles and very high-pressure phase transformation in suevite breccia suggest a shock pressure regime higher than 60 GPa.
