Abstract: En este artículo se muestra un procedimiento metodológico para la determinación de distritos aptos para el desarrollo de cultivo de salmónidos y moluscos bivalvos, que incluye distintos procedimientos de análisis cartográfico digital y de análisis matricial de bases de datos relacionales en un Sistema de Información Geográfica (SIG). La proposición plantea el dise o de un modelo que integra los criterios ambientales con los requerimientos específicos del recurso. INTESTINO DELGADO PATOLOGICO: RESONANCIA MAGNETICA CON CONTRASTE ORAL VERSUS TRANSITO INTESTINAL CON BARIO (RESULTADOS PRELIMINARES

Abstract: El tránsito de intestino delgado con sulfato de bario permite una adecuada visualización de las alteraciones endoluminales, pero con limitaciones tales como no visualizar el compromiso y extensión extraparietal. La Resonancia Magnética aparece como una alternativa, con beneficios como evitar radiación y permitir la evaluación de detalles anatómicos de la pared intestinal y estructuras adyacentes. En once pacientes con alteración del tránsito intestinal, se realizó resonancia magnética, usando agua en un volumen de 1500 cc como contraste oral administrado en un corto período de tiempo, obteniendo imágenes en resonador de 1.5 Tesla, con gradiente de 25 mT/m. Las imágenes se compararon con estudio de intestino con bario para determinar tiempo de tránsito, parámetros de distensión y caracterización de la patología. Una correlación de 90.9% y un valor Kappa de 0.82 (correlación excelente) del intestino delgado patológico y de las estructuras extraluminales adyacentes se logró con resonancia magnética, haciendo de esta técnica una alternativa válida y efectiva al estudio convencional del intestino delgado con bario en nuestra serie; sin embargo se requieren estudios con muestras mayores para confirmarla Small bowel transit with barium sulphate allows adequate visualization of endoluminal alterations, but with drawbacks such as limited usefulness for wall compromise and extra parietal extension. Eleven patients with abnormal result of intestinal transit with barium underwent magnetic resonance with water 1500 cc p.o in brief period, with images achieved in a 1.5 Tesla resonator, with 25 mT/m gradient, using optimized sequences. Comparison in regards of time of transit, distension, and characterization of pathology was made. An adequate correlation of the pathologic small bowel and its adjacent structures is achieved with magnetic resonance compared with transit with barium, achieving 90.9% of simple correlation and 0.82 Kappa value (excellent correlation), making this technique a valid and effective alternative to the conventional study of the small bowel with barium in our experience. Larger series are required to confirm this

Abstract: the spiny rock lobster (jasus frontalis) stock exploited in the robinson crusoe and santa clara islands of juan fernandez archipelago (33o40's-80o00'w), is assessed and the exploitation state is analyzed. an analysis of cohort at size (act) model is adjusted to the fishery carried out in the 1996-97 season. the fishing mortality of the totally recruited groups (fcr) are estimated in 0,63 for males and 0,81 for females, with a 50% of retention size of 94 to 96 for males and 96 for females. the lobsters mean biomass is estimated in 29 to 31 ton (46.663 and 50.355 individuals respectively) for males and in 39 to 42 ton (59.785 and 63.249 individuals respectively) for females. on the other hand, in the equilibrated yield analysis is estimated that fishing mortality fcr derived of the act model, was inferior to the fmáx recommended value estimated in 0,86 for males and 1,15 for females, and superiors to the f0.1 mortality. the long term equilibrated yield analysis (cba), suggests for a f0.1 exploitation strategy that the recommended landing value is equal to 10,4 and 14,6 ton (16.885 and 15.449 individuals) of males and females respectively, 10% inferior to current landings levels. the critical size of lobster for a value of m=0,18, was determined similar to 110 mm in males and 107 mm in females, while the calculated critical age for both sexes corresponds to the group of 9 year-old age. the lobster state situation indicates that the current exploitation levels are intense and with exploitation rates that would reduce the mean biomass in the long term. the biomass would reduce the yearly total levels to 50 ton (males + females), significantly inferior magnitude if an exploitation rate equivalent to f0.1 biological point will be implemented, which would reach a yearly population equivalent size of 70 ton

Abstract: Se evalúa y analiza el estado de explotación del stock de la langosta (Jasus frontalis) explotada en las islas Robinson Crusoe y Santa Clara del archipiélago de Juan Fernández (33o40'S-80o00'W). Mediante el modelo de análisis de cohorte a la talla (ACT) ajustado a la pesquería realizada en la temporada 1996-97, se estiman los valores de mortalidad por pesca de los grupos completamente reclutados (Fcr) en 0,63 para machos y 0,81 para hembras, con una talla al 50% de retención de 94 a 96 para machos y 96 para hembras. Se estima una biomasa media de machos entre 29 y 31 toneladas (46.663 y 50.355 individuos respectivamente) y entre 39 y 42 toneladas (59.785 y 63.249 individuos respectivamente) para hembras. Por otra parte, en el análisis del rendimiento equilibrado se estima que las mortalidades por pesca Fcr derivadas del modelo ACT, resultaron inferiores al valor recomendado Fmáx estimado en 0,86 en machos y 1,15 en hembras, y superiores a un nivel de mortalidad F0.1. El análisis de rendimiento equilibrado de largo plazo (CBA), sugiere para una estrategia de explotación F0.1, que el valor recomendado de desembarque equivale a 10,4 y 14,6 toneladas (16.885 y 15.449 individuos) de machos y hembras respectivamente, cifras inferiores en un 10% respecto a los actuales niveles desembarcados. La talla crítica de langosta para un valor de M=0,18, se determinó igual a 110 mm en machos y 107 mm en hembras, mientras la edad crítica estimada para ambos sexos corresponde al grupo de edad de 9 a os. Abstract: fungi, particularly yeasts, have become important opportunistic pathogens that can be resistant to antifungal agents or develop resistance. to address this problem, new molecules such as echinocandins, have been developed. susceptibility to anidulafungin was studied in yeasts isolated previous to the introduction of this drug in chile. one hundred strains of different yeast species isolated from invasive fungal infections during 2007 and 2008 were studied. susceptibility testing of anidulafungin was performed by broth microdilution according to clsi. all strains were susceptible to anidulafungin. mic50 and mic90 were 0.125 μg/ml and 1 μg/ml, respectively. compared to other yeasts, c. parapsilosis showed a slight increase in the mics for anidulafungin (mic50, 1 μg/ml, mic90, 2 μg/ml), but remained within the susceptible range. both, fluconazole resistant (8) and dose dependant susceptible strains (16) were susceptible to anidulafungin. in vitro, this echinocandin appears to be an effective therapeutic alternative.

Abstract:

Brazil is responsible for 27% of the world production of soybeans and 7% of maize. Mato Grosso and Para states in Brazil are among the largest producer. The viability to the cultivation of maize (Zea mays) and soybeans (Glycine max), for future climate scenarios (2070-2100, GHG) is evaluated based on crop modeling (DSSAT) forced by observational data and regional climate simulations (HadRM3). The results demonstrated that a substantial reduction in the yield in particular for maize may be expected for the end of the 21st century. Distinct results are found for soybeans. By applying the A2 climate changes scenario, soybean yield rises by up top 60% assuming optimum soil treatment and no water stress. However, by analyzing the inter-annual variability of crop yields for both maize and soybean, could be demonstrated larger year-to-year fluctuations under greenhouse warming conditions as compared to current conditions, leading to very low productivity by the end of the 21st century. Therefore, these Brazilian states do not appear to be economically suitable for a future cultivation of maize and soybeans. Improved adaptation measures and soil management may however partially alleviate the negative climate change effect.

Abstract: we report a 47 years old woman presenting with dysphagia. a chest cat scan and barium swallow showed an endoluminal mass that extended to four vertebrae. an endoluminal sonography localized the pediculum of the mass, that was excised endoscopically. the pathological study disclosed a fibrovascular polyp. after 18 months of follow up, the patient is asymptomatic.
