Queiroz, Alexandre J. de M.;Figueirêdo, Rossana M. F. de;Silva, Claudécia L. da;Mata, Mario Eduardo R.M.C.;
Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662007000200009
Abstract: the rheological behavior of apis mellifera honey produced in the state of piauí, in the brazilian semi-arid, obtained with predominance of serjania glabrata flowers was studied. the samples were collected in the year 2000 by beekeepers and associations and cooperatives of beekeepers in the area covered by the municipal districts of picos, itainópolis, vera mendes and isaías coelho. the samples were centrifuged, filtered, decanted and the rheological measures at temperatures of 20 to 40 oc using a brookfield viscometer rvt model were made. the readings of rotation speed and torque were transformed in shear rate and shear stress values. the data of shear rate and shear stress were fitted by the potential law and herschel-bulkley models. the samples presented pseudoplastic behavior. the potential and herschel-bulkley models fitted the experimental results appropriately. the increase in temperature reduced the viscosity by approximately 80%. the apparent viscosity values fitted well with an arrhenius type equation.
Caracteriza??o físico-química de méis produzidos no Estado do Piauí para diferentes floradas
Silva, Claudécia L. da;Queiroz, Alexandre J. de M.;Figueirêdo, Rossana M. F. de;
Revista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-43662004000200015
Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the physical-chemical composition of honeys produced in the piauí state, located in semi-arid region of northeast brazil. the honeys produced from 'marmeleiro' (croton sonderianus müll. arg.), 'jitirana' (hyptis suaveolens), 'camaratuba' (cratylia mollis mart. ex benth), 'silvestre' (serjania glabrata) and 'angico de bezerro' (piptadenia moniliformis), were analysed following the methods recommended by the brazilian ministry of agriculture and normative instruction of october 2000. the following analyses were performed: moisture, hydroxymethylfurfural (hmf), reducing sugars, apparent sucrose, ash, free acidity, insoluble solids in water, diastatic activity, obrix and ph. the individual values of each analyzed parameter were compared with the standards established by ministry of agriculture and suplies and presented satisfactory results, matching the standards cited by the normative instruction.

Abstract: background: phenylketonuria is a genetic disorder that causes biochemical alterations, leading to a deficiency in the synthesis of proteins and neurotransmitters and thereby hindering the myelination process. structural and functional changes in myelin can alter neural conductivity patterns and or reduce synaptic connection in individuals with phenylketonuria. essentially, a dietary treatment should be implemented in the first weeks of life in order to avoid clinical and biochemical manifestations of the disease. when diet is continually maintained, children with phenylketonuria show normal development. however, deficits in executive functions, interhemispherical interaction, language and memory have been observed even in children with early treatment and appropriate diet. some researches were carried out for investigating the relationship between phenylketonuria and alterations in the hearing function. purpose: to systematically review articles dedicated to the research of relationship between hearing disorders and hyperphenylalaninaemias, highlighting the classic phenylketonuria. the bibliographical references were obtained through research in the databases: lilacs, medline, cochrane library and scielo and through search in the reference list of the identified and selected articles. conclusion: the relationship among hyperphenylalaninaemias, including phenylketonuria, and hearing alterations is still controversial in the literature. it is suggested that more investigations as for the hearing function are necessary on those individuals in order to elucidate this possible relationship.

Abstract: this work aimed identifying crops for intercropping and integrated methods for weed control in yellow passion fruit (passiflora edulis sims f. flavicarpa deg.) orchard, that will favor its production and profitability. the experiment was set up in may 1999, with the plants being conducted by a vertical support structure with one wire extended 2.0 m above the soil surface, and distributed in a spacing of 2.5 m x 5.0 m. the experimental design was in randomized blocks, with four replications and six treatments as follows: t1 - maize (zea mays l. , cv. br 106) as intercrop; t2 - bean (phaseolus vulgaris l., cv. pérola) as intercrop; t3 - pork bean (canavalia ensiformis l.) in the interspace and hoeing in the plant lines; t4 - pork bean in the interspace and chemical weed control in the plant lines (glyphosate at 1.5 kg./ha); t5 - general chemical weed control (alachlor at 2.8 kg/ha + diuron at 1.2 kg/ha in pre-emergence and glyphosate at 1.5 kg/ha in post-emergence); t6 - control (general hoeing). data obtained during the harvest period (may 1999 to april 2000) showed no statistical differences among treatments for yield (industry), fruit weight, length and diameter, total soluble solids and total titrable acidity. however, there was a statistical significance for total yield and yield for the fresh fruit market, with best results for bean as intercrop, giving a passion fruit yield of 12.82 t/ha. both bean and maize should be recommended as intercrops during the first year of passion fruit cycle. the herbicides used both in pre- and post-emergence were economically viable and did not show toxic effects on the yellow passion fruit plants.
Conflitos sociais contemporaneos: considera??es sobre o ambientalismo brasileiro
Ferreira, Lúcia da Costa;
Ambiente & Sociedade , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-753X1999000200004
Abstract: this article makes use of the analytical tools of the theory of action regarding social movements and contemporary social conflicts, as well as reflections about ngos, in order to outline a suitable explanatory model to understand relevant aspects of the contemporary environmentalism. the initial hypothesis is that the crisis experienced by leaders and militants is caused by a two-side difficulty: on one hand, its constitution as a unique social actor with a cultural project of society and, on the other hand, its double performance as a social actor and a political agent. from then on, our purpose is to understand the change caused by the social action of the environmental ngos in its everyday dimension. the ngos have an outstanding role in the deep process of social learning that mobilizes very different categories of social actors, as well as, in the final establishment of an environmental field. besides the national and international theoretical debate on the subject, this article is also based on the direct observation of the environmentalists everyday action since the cnumad-92.
Dimens?es humanas da biodiversidade: mudan?as sociais e conflitos em torno de áreas protegidas no Vale do Ribeira, SP, Brasil
Ferreira, Lúcia da Costa;
Ambiente & Sociedade , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-753X2004000100004
Abstract: this article aims to discuss the theoretical frames that supports biodiversity conservation policy in brazil: the paradigm of biodiversity isles surrounded by areas altered by predatory human action and the paradigm of regional biodiversity, which foresees the creation and maintenance of a network of protected areas integrated to their regional context and different perspectives of social dynamics within and in the surrounds of the areas taken as priorities for conservation. the main hypothesis is that the outcome of human activity in protected areas is mostly due to the social conflicts about these areas than to the aggregation of traditional populations into the process of natural resources sustainable management. the article will also analyze some results of previous research projects: forest and sea: utilization and conflicts in the ribeira valley, sp (fapesp n. 99/14514-1) and social conflicts and changes in the amazon and atlantic forest protected areas (fapesp n. 01/07992-1).
