Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the chemical composition and aerobic stability of corn grain silage, added with crude soybean, sunflower or urea. the following treatments, arranged in a completely randomized design, with four replications, were evaluated: corn grain; corn grain plus soybean grain; corn grain plus sunflower grain; and corn grain plus urea. plastic barrels with 200 kg of capacity were used as experimental silos and kept closed for nine months. chemical composition, dry matter and crude protein ruminal degradability, starch ruminal disappearance, and the aerobic stability of silages were evaluated. the addition of soybean, sunflower or urea on silages influenced the effective degradability of dry matter and crude protein, and the chemical composition, especially in relation to crude protein and ether extract contents. the addition of 20% soybean, sunflower or urea (1%) in corn grain silage improves chemical composition, but decreases the effective degradability of dry matter and crude protein. urea addition to moist corn grain silage reduces losses on dry matter and improves the aerobic stability.

Abstract: this experiment was conducted to evaluate the replacement of different corn grains (dry corn grain, reconstituted grain corn silage and high-moisture grain corn silage) on th epreformance of feedlot lambs. sixty lambs (males and females) were randomly assigned to five treatments with twelve replicates and fed iisoprotein and isoenergetic diets, in different treatments: t1= (rcgs) reconstituted grain corn silage; t2 = (dcg) dry corn grain; t3 = 50% rcgs + 50% dcg; t4 = (hmgcs) high-moisture grain corn silage; t5 = 50% hmgcs + 50% dcg. oat hay was the used forage. average daily gain and feed: gain ratio at 28, 56 and 73 days of feedlot were evaluated. the diet with the total replacement of the dry corn grain by the high-moisture grain corn silage showed higher average daily gain at the 73 days than at that one at 28 and 56 days of feedlot confinement. this can be explained by the best digestibility presented by the silages, attributed to the gelatinization suffered by starch during the process. in that case, the high-moisture grain corn silage can be efficiently used in diets for lambs.

The study evaluated the live weight components, objective and subjective carcass characteristics and physical-chemicalcharacteristics of the Longissimus lumborum muscle and the proportion of tissues that constitute the loin of twenty-four intact males lambs, Hampshire Down crossbreed, fattened in a drylot system. The lambs were fed with different diets based on corn grain silage with the addition of sunflower seeds or urea. The treatments did not affect live weight and hot carcass weight at slaughter, carcass yield, blood, skin, reproductive system with bladder, respiratory system, spleen, kidneys and perineal fat, liver, heart, emptygastrointestinal tract, head or feet. There was no significant difference in cold carcass weight, body condition, conformation of carcass, fat covering, fat consistency, meat color, thickness, loin area, crude protein, or ratios of muscle, bones, fat and other tissues of the Longissimus lumborum muscle. Cooking losses, myofibril fragmentation index and colors indexes L*, a* and b*, also did not differ by treatment. The lambs can be fattened with any diets, because there is no difference for the analyzed characteristics.

This study evaluated the performance from weaning to slaughter and carcass characteristics of 144 New Zealand White rabbits, from does fed with a reference diet or half-simplified diet containing 79.83% cassava by-product, allocated in iron cages, in a 2 x 3 factorialarrangement (two diets used for does and litters until weaning versus three diets supplied for animals from weaning to slaughter) with 12 replications and two animals per experimental unit. The supplied diets after weaning consisted of one reference and two half-simplified diets with 81.63% cassava by-product ensiled or not before its incorporation. Rabbits from mothers fed with the half-simplified diet gained less weight at weaning than rabbits fed with reference diet. Lower feed intake was observed for rabbits that received the maternity half-simplified diet until weaning, resulting in a better feed:gain ratio. The weight of carcass and commercial cuts were higher for animals fed with both reference diets: maternity and growth diets. The use of half-simplified diets with cassava by-product ensiled or not, from weaning to slaughter, reduced daily weight gain and feed intake; however,
