Abstract:
Circle K Cycles: uma diáspora à brasileira na obra de Karen Tei Yamashita
Cláudio Roberto Vieira Braga
Revista de Letras , 2009,
Abstract: The intent of this work is to offer a discussion of diaspora, outlined by its consensual features found in the studies of theorists William Safran (1991), Khachig T l lyan (1996), James Clifford (1994), Robin Cohen (1995, 1999), and Paul Gilroy (1999). Here we emphasize the need of a more accurate use of the term diaspora. Simultaneously, we analyze the fictional representation of a Brazilian diasporic formation in Circle K Cycles. In this book, by Japanese-American Karen Tei Yamashita, we identify and problematize diaspora through the means of some characteristics, such as the dispersion and its reasons, the relationship with the homeland, conflicts in the hostland, the myth of return and the ethnic group consciousness.

Estudos Econ?micos (S?o Paulo) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-41612005000300001
Abstract: the control of the money supply was one of the most important instruments used in the carrying out of the monetary policy designed by the author of paeg (1964/1966). although the inflation has been controlled, the targets for monetary supply have not been reached. pastore (1973, 1973a), lara resente (1982) and cysne (1993) disaggee both on the reasons for that and the timing of the relevant facts. with a time series analysis it was possible to investigate what really happened with the money supply. the main conclusions are: a) during the paeg, only one important structural change had happened (july 1965); other breaks have happened before the plan; b) although all of these authors agree with the role played by the money financing of treasury, the credit supplied by banco do brasil as monetary authority is the best candidate in explaining the behavior of the money supply during the plan; c) the credit supplied by the commercial banks to the private sector had not any role in the determination of money supply during the period and d) the role of international reserves described by the authors is different from what really happened. the use of data on reserves other than those made available by sumoc in real terms turned impossible a more precise work by these authors.
Economias de escala e de escopo: desmistificando alguns aspectos da transi??o
Szwarcfiter, Cláudio;Dalcol, Paulo Roberto T;
Produ??o , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-65131997000200001
Abstract: in the last two decades, the industrial world witnessed an intensifying fragmentation and segmentation of its markets, especially for the consumer durable goods. the upshot is the ever-increasing difficulty for the exploration of 'traditional' economies of scale by means of highly specialised equipment and production of standardised goods. thus, the recent vogue of the concept of economies of scope. nevertheless, various inaccurate conclusions in relation to the transition from economies of scale to economies of scope are found in the literature. the aim of this paper is to pinpoint some of these conclusions and try to introduce some arguments in order to organise the discussion on the subject
O Comércio Brasil-Mercosul na década de 90: uma análise pela ótica do comércio intra-indústria
Vasconcelos, Cláudio Roberto Fóffano;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402003000100012
Abstract: the object of study of this work is to investigate the contribution of the intra-industry trade to the growth of the brazilian intra-block trade flow, and if this flow could be relatively more significant than the extra-block to the growth of the total multilateral intra-industry trade. a conclusion is that when analysing the brazil-mercosur bilateral trade flow, an increasing significance of the intra-industry type of trade in this flow was observed.

Zoologia (Curitiba) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1984-46702009005000003
Abstract: the analysis of the material obtained in the rescue of archaeological sites in the area surrounding the hydroelectric plant of machadinho, rio grande do sul, revealed that a considerable amount of bones and fish scales incorporated in the alimentary remains. using an osteological collection as reference, we identified remains of salminus brasiliensis (cuvier, 1816) (characidae), brycon orbignyanus (valenciennes, 1849) (characidae), pogonopoma obscurum quevedo & reis, 2002 (loricariidae), hemiancistrus fuliginosus cardoso & malabarba, 1999, prochilodus lineatus (valenciennes, 1836) (prochilodontidae), schizodon sp. (anostomidae), leporinus sp. (anostomidae), hoplias sp. (erythrinidae), hypostomus sp. (loricariidae) and crenicichla sp. (cichlidae). based on specimens from fish collections, regressions were obtained comparing the size of the pre-maxillary bone in crenicichla spp. and the length of the pectoral fin spine of hemiancistrus fuliginosus, pogonopoma obscurum and hypostomus spp, with the standard length and weight of corresponding specimens. the estimated size and weight of the specimens obtained from fish remains in the archaeological sites varied between 79.7-153.9 mm and 13.5-33.9 g for hemiancistrus fuliginosus, 158.2-151.0 mm and 179.5-194.3 g for pogonopoma obscurum, 117.1-166.2 mm and 86.6-93.1 g for crenicichla spp., and 62.2-397.2 mm and 34-20.3 g for hypostomus spp. therefore using these estimates of standard lengths and weights it was possible to formulate a hypotheses on the fishing technology used by the inhabitants of these sites.

Abstract: authoritarian governments and exchange rate policy in latin american countries. our aim on this paper is to identify the exchange rate policies used by authoritarian governments in latin america during the 170?s and 180?s. the literature shows that the focus of the exchange rate policy was on inflation control, which was not consistent with the evidence. we show on this paper that these governments aimed at a undervalued currency because of the behavior of the external balance of the countries.
Políticas públicas, pobreza e desigualdade no Brasil: apontamentos a partir do enfoque analítico de Amartya Sen
Ribeiro, Cláudio Oliveira,Menezes, Roberto Goulart
Textos & Contextos (Porto Alegre) , 2008,
