Abstract: objectives: the acute peritonitis is an important cause of sepsis and death on intensive care units and surgery. the treatment must include: systemical use of antibiotics, drainage of abscess and restauration of gastrointestinal integrity. the topical use of antibiotics in the peritoneal cavity is controversial. the aim of this study was to evaluate the use of topical use of ampicilin/sulbactam in the treatment of peritonitis. methods: we measured the plasmatic levels of nitric oxide, count of eosinophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils in blood and peritoneal cavity, using a model of peritonitis in rats (transfixation and ligature of cecum). twenty four wistar rats were divided in 4 groups (n=6 each). group a: induction of peritonitis with ligature of cecum and topical treatment with saline; group b: induction of peritonitis with ligature of cecum and topical treatment with ampicilin/sulbactam; group c: transfixation of cecum; group d: laparotomy and peritoneal exsudate + blood sample. the transfixation-ligture of cecum remained for 24 hs before treatment. a relaparotomy was performed in 18 rats and peritoneal exsudate/blood were collected. dosage of nitric oxide, count of eosinophil, lynphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils in blood and peritoneal exsudte were done. results: the difference was not significant in the levels of nitric oxide, eosinophil, lynphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils in blood and peritoneal exsudate (p > 0,05) among the studied groups. concluson: the use of ampicilin associated to sulbactam via intraperitoneal in rats with fecal peritonitis did not change survival.; the levels of plama nitric oxide, count of eosinophil, lynphocytes, monocytes, and neutrophils in blood and peritoneal exsudate were not affected.

Reis, Cláudio Araújo;

Abstract: in rousseauian terms, the fundamental question about what we should collectively do (i.e., the problem of collective decision-making) translates itself as the question about how we could know what the general will is. this question, however, can only be adequately answered if we consider that "general will" has a double meaning. rousseau uses the same expression to refer to two quite different things: to the collective decisions themselves consubstantiated in the law ("gw-as a decision") and to the common good as a pattern which, in a way, exists before and independently of the decisions, functioning as a reference to the decision-making procedure ("gw-as a pattern"). the general question about how could we know what the general will is, then, should be split into two: how can we get to know the gw-as a decision? and how can we get to know the gw-as a pattern? this article intends to identify the central elements of rousseau's answer to this two questions, which throw an interesting light on the rousseauian conception of democracy.

Abstract: the aim of this work was to evaluate morphometric aspects of subdermic skin flap neoangiogenesis in rats treated with a 10% copaiba (copaifera langsdorffii) oil ointment. the experiment design was a completely randomized, with three pharmacological resources. ten replicates were used for each resource, and each animal was considered one experimental unit. thirty wistar rats were submitted to subdermic dorsal skin flap elevation and distributed into three groups: absolute control group, in which the animals did not receive any treatment; control group, in which the animals received topical treatment only with vehicle (glycerin and petroleum jelly), and treated group, in which the animals were treated daily with a 10% copaiba oil ointment. the rats were treated and observed for eight days after surgery. on the eighth day, the skin flap underwent a macroscopic analysis and fragments were collected from its cranial, medial and caudal portions for histopathological analysis. the morphometric analysis showed significant difference for proliferation of newly formed vessels in the middle and caudal portions of the skin flap in the treated group. copaiba oil showed efficiency in the increase of neoangiogenesis of subdermic skin flaps in rats.
PROCESSO DE PRODU O DESIGUAL DO ESPA O URBANO:RECIFE – IMPASSE PERMANENTE DA COEXISTêNCIA DE INTERESSES DA “CIDADE à ACUMULA O DE CAPITAL” E DA “CIDADE à REALIZA O PLENA DA VIDA HUMANA”!
Cláudio Jorge Moura de CASTILHO
Revista ACTA Geográfica , 2011,
Abstract: This article shows up some points for a discussion about the philosophical nature of the urban space production process from the case of Recife, a town situated in a ‘periphery’ of the capitalist system. Under a context of unequal historical-geographical development in which there is a clear deadlock between the market interest and the human interest, always in favour of the first, we pointed, firstly, the aspects of ‘market town logic’ and ‘human town logic’. After that, and secondly, searching for making a balance between both logics, we encourage people to think about another urban space for everybody without dualism logical, making its possibility in question.
Carvalho, Cláudio José Reis de;
Revista árvore , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-67622005000600009
Abstract: juvenile plants of s. amazonicum (paricá) and s. parahyba (guapuruvu) were subjected to two cycles of water stress in greenhouse conditions. the water deficit induced the increase in total soluble amino acids, proline, total soluble sugars and k+ contents in the leaf tissues, lowering osmotic potential values in both species. however, the analysis of the pressure-volume curve results suggests that the species respond differently to water stress, and that s. amazonicum presents greater capacity of osmotic adaptation than s. parahyba.
