Bandeira, Cláudia de Moraes;Hutz, Claudio Simon;
Psicologia Escolar e Educacional , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-85572010000100014
Abstract: in this study we aim at investigating adolescents involved in bullying as victims, aggressor or victim/aggressor or even witness. we are interested in identifying the differences in their self-esteem according to gender. the participants, 465 adolescents (52.7% males), completed the rosenberg self-esteem scale and a bullying questionnaire. results showed an interaction between gender and the participants’ roles in bullying in relation to self-esteem. post-hoc analyses showed that in the victims/aggressors group, boys revealed higher self-esteem than the girls. male witnesses presented higher self-esteem than victims. female aggressors presented higher self-esteem than the victims/aggressors group. the results also show that bullying is a very common phenomenon which bring about different implications for girls and boys self-esteem. we propose new studies to clarify some of these issues.

Revista Brasileira de Cineantropometria e Desempenho Humano , 2008,
Abstract: Physical activity has been recommended for heart disease prevention and rehabilitation. However, when performed incorrectly, which is more common when practiced without supervision and in public places, the risk of cardiovascular events increases. The objective of this study was to compare cardiovascular risk factors among users of S o Paulo′s public parks with differing levels of physical activity – active, insuffi ciently active, and inactive. The evaluation consisted of a questionnaire about cardiovascular diseases, symptoms and risk factors; physical activity practice; and anthropometric and arterial blood pressure measurements. There was no difference between the groups in terms of the prevalence of cardiovascular disease or controllable risk factors. However, inactive people had a higher prevalence of cardiovascular symptoms (35%). With regard to uncontrollable cardiovascular risk factors, there was a higher prevalence of the gender/age factor among active (50%) and insuffi ciently active (45%) subjects, and heredity was more prevalent among inactive people (35%). There was no difference in obesity or blood pressure between the groups. The study also showed that active and insuffi ciently active subjects have a better knowledge of their health status, and a higher prevalence of being prescribed physical activity by physicians. The results demonstrate that most of the people who exercise in public parks are elderly and are at a moderate to high cardiovascular risk from this practice, which suggests that a physical education professional should be present.
Moraes, Giseli Diniz de Almeida;Terence, Ana Cláudia Fernandes;Escriv?o Filho, Edmundo;
JISTEM - Journal of Information Systems and Technology Management , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1807-17752004000100003
Abstract: the present article aims to discuss the contribution of information technology (it) as a support to the strategic management of information in small businesses. this is a relevant subject to this sector, in which the information on the subjects is scarce and there is little knowledge of its relevance in the strategic process. thus, most entrepreneurs do not visualize the information technology as a tool capable of aiding in the decision and strategic process, using it, many times, just in administrative and operational tasks. another reason that contributes to a minor dissemination of the information technology in the small businesses segment is its lack of adaptation to the environment, where it is implemented without considering the principal management specificities of the small enterprises. the literature about the use of information technology in the strategic process of small organizations shows a series of obstacles to be overcome, such as: implementing financially accessible technologies, involving the entrepreneur in the implementation process and supplying adapted training to employees and entrepreneurs. therefore, for small businesses it is relevant to develop researches that allow the adaptation of information technology to its needs to improve the strategic management.
Clonal chromosome abnormalites found in three non-neoplastic proliferative brain lesions
Rainho, Cláudia Aparecida;Barbieri Neto, José;Moraes, Lamartine Correa de;Rogatto, Silvia Regina;
Genetics and Molecular Biology , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1415-47571999000100006
Abstract: chromosome analysis was made of brain lesions from three patients which, according to classical histopathological criteria, did not contain tumor cells. in addition to normal cells, we identified abnormal karyotypes with clonal numerical and structural chromosome alterations in at least two independently originated primary cultures from each lesion. our data suggest that chromosomal aberrations can exist in vivo in non-neoplastic lesions. other abnormalities may be due to genetic instability manifested only in vitro (culture artifacts) or may already have been present in brain tissue, reflecting previous chromosome damage (as a result of exposure to chemical treatment or enviromental clastogens).
Efeitos do treinamento resistido sobre a press?o arterial de idosos
Queiroz, Andréia Cristiane Carrenho;Kanegusuku, Hélcio;Forjaz, Cláudia Lúcia de Moraes;
Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0066-782X2010001100020
Abstract: the aging process drastically reduces muscle mass, strength and power, decreasing the capacity to perform the activities of daily living. the practice of resistance exercises can reverse this picture, helping to maintain the muscular mass and improving muscular strength and resistance. however, the aging process causes cardiovascular alterations, which can result in increased blood pressure levels at rest and it is important to analyze the effects of resistance exercises on the blood pressure of elderly individuals. the objective of this study is to evaluate the current scientific knowledge on the responses of the blood pressure to resistance exercises and their mechanisms in elderly individuals. in order to do that, we carried out a literature review related to the theme, in both portuguese and english. based on the studies found, the current corpus, although scarce and controversial, suggests that, chronically, resistance exercises can have a hypotensive effect on elderly individuals. however, this effect occurs mainly in normotensive elderly individuals submitted to low-intensity training. the mechanisms involved in the hypotensive response still need to be clarified. although the resistance training is recommended for elderly individuals and there is some evidence that it can have a chronic hypotensive effect, there is still lack of scientific data and much debate on the subject, which demonstrates that this field is still open to investigation.

Moraes, Cláudia Leite de;Cabral, Cristiane S.;Heilborn, Maria Luiza;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2006000700013
Abstract: the article estimates the magnitude of sexual coercion among young adults in three large brazilian cities. in addition to evaluating prevalence, the article analyzes the victim's and perpetrator's characteristics, identifies the main strategies used in coercion, and explores the social scenarios that favor the occurrence of sexual violence. the article draws on data from a household survey called the gravad project, conducted in porto alegre, rio de janeiro, and salvador and completed in 2002. interviews were applied to a stratified sample of males and females aged 18-24 years, with 4,634 respondents (47.2% males and 52.8% females). prevalence of some lifetime experience as victims of sexual coercion was estimated at 16.5% for women and 11.1% for men. victim's and perpetrator's age in the first episode, the type of relationship between them, and the forms of pressure varied between males and females. the magnitude of such events, differences between men and women, and the higher prevalence rates in certain population sub-groups demand immediate preventive policies and strategies.

Abstract: this paper focuses on the extraordinary impact of aids on blood-related policiesinbrazil during the late ! 9 80's. the thrcatof acquiringthe htvthrough blood transfusions, combined with the widespread social fearof contraeting the global disease, triggered an unpreeedented array of social movements and non-government agencies demanding improved, safer, and more ethieal blood banking and produetion of plasma fraetions. in fact, there were pressing dcmandsof popular opinion and the press since the late 1970'sandearly i980's against the transmission of infeetious di se ases by blood transfusion, sueh as doen?a de chagas and hepatitis. such pressures brought about some tightening of federal inspection and the launching of a national blood program, known as pró-sangue, in 1980. but these measures had little impact on the quality of services, comparcd wit.li later developments during the decade. the spread of aids through transfusion attracted national attention to institutional and political problems of the blood and plasma produetion sectors. the population at large joined the groups and movements created on the wave of that debate. the political parties f?llowed suit. the federal government yielded to pressures by developing new policies for the sector in 1988, more comprehensive and a bit more effective than the older programs. however, real progress in the creation of regional and state-funded blood centers, in the quality-control of blood, and in the adoptionof strict standards for the plasma market was only achieved when state governments (such as the states of s?o paulo and rio de janeiro) took the lead and worked together with the ministry of health authorities. but much remains to be done from the point of view of medicai inspection and legal contrai, especially in some brazilian states where action is heavily dependent on the federal government. from a broader point of view, a complete overhauling of the system of blood donation and produetion of plasma fractio
