Abstract: studies with nuclear families allow the identification of familiar aggregation, as well as the estimation of how much of the variability in a characteristic might be attributed to genetic differences among subjects. results from these studies are starting points for more complex genetic research, including the identification and relevance of candidate genes. in sport science, studies have analyzed the possible existence of familiar aggregation and genetic influence on phenotypes marking physical activity, fitness, and health status. however, few studies were conducted with portuguese speaking populations, and even fewer with brazilian populations. therefore, the present paper aims to discuss, at an introductory level, important aspects about nuclear family studies. the first two phases of genetic epidemiology research outline - familiar aggregation and heritability - were approached. the different steps of analysis were exemplified with real data collected in nuclear families from a study conducted in muzambinho-mg. we hope this paper provides enough background and stimuli for the newcomers in this area of study.

Abstract: Physical activity has been recommended for heart disease prevention and rehabilitation. However, when performed incorrectly, which is more common when practiced without supervision and in public places, the risk of cardiovascular events increases. The objective of this study was to compare cardiovascular risk factors among users of S o Paulo′s public parks with differing levels of physical activity – active, insuffi ciently active, and inactive. The evaluation consisted of a questionnaire about cardiovascular diseases, symptoms and risk factors; physical activity practice; and anthropometric and arterial blood pressure measurements. There was no difference between the groups in terms of the prevalence of cardiovascular disease or controllable risk factors. However, inactive people had a higher prevalence of cardiovascular symptoms (35%). With regard to uncontrollable cardiovascular risk factors, there was a higher prevalence of the gender/age factor among active (50%) and insuffi ciently active (45%) subjects, and heredity was more prevalent among inactive people (35%). There was no difference in obesity or blood pressure between the groups. The study also showed that active and insuffi ciently active subjects have a better knowledge of their health status, and a higher prevalence of being prescribed physical activity by physicians. The results demonstrate that most of the people who exercise in public parks are elderly and are at a moderate to high cardiovascular risk from this practice, which suggests that a physical education professional should be present.

Abstract: storing refrigerated raw milk in the source of production reduces economic losses which occur due to the acidifying activity of mesophilic bacteria. nevertheless, this process selects psychrotrophic bacteria that cause technological and economic problems to the dairy industry. samples of individual and collective refrigerated tanks and samples from an industrial silo in a dairy industry were collected and analyzed to evaluate the microbiological quality of raw milk. furthermore, proteolytic psychrotrophic bacteria were isolated from refrigerated raw milk and characterized according to the gram reaction and glucose fermentation. the refrigerated raw milk from the industrial silo was not compatible with legal microbiological standards, and its microbial count was significantly higher than milk from individual and collective tanks. a significant difference of contamination by mesophiles, proteolytic and non-proteolytic psychrotrophs, and pseudomonas was observed in samples collected from refrigeration tanks compared to samples collected from the industrial silo. the gram-negative microbiota was isolated more often, especially the glucose non-fermentative gram-negative bacteria.
