Piper aduncum L. (Piperaceae) has great potential for economic exploration because of the proven use of its essential oil in the agriculture and in the human health. A technique that improves its propagation, as the tissue culture, becomes necessary. Some parameters must be determined for the successful cultivation in vitro. Thus, this study aimed to determine the salts concentration of MS medium, temperature, luminosity and light quality for in vitro culture of this species. The following treatments were conducted: 1/4MS, 1/2MS, MS and 2MS; 20, 25, 30 and 35; monochromatic blue, red and white lights and the combination of red and blue, using light emitting diodes (LEDs); luminosities of 17, 37, 48 and 73 μmol·m-2·s-1 obtained with cool white fluorescent lamp. After 35 days, the treatments were analyzed. To determine the salts concentration of MS, the variables were evaluated: number of shoots, leaves and roots, length and width of leaves, length and dry mass of root and shoots and percentage of death by necrosis. To the plantlets under different temperatures, length and dry mass of shoot and root, number of shoots, number, length and width of leaves and survival and rooting percentages were measured. The plantlets that were maintained under different luminosities were evaluated for length of shoot and root, dry mass of leaf and root. To evaluate the growth under the LEDs, the length and dry mass of shoot and root, number of shoots and roots, percentage of rooting and sprouting were assessed. The medium 1/4MS and the medium 1/2MS showed better responses for number and length of root, leaf width and shoot length. The temperature 25 provided the highest number of leaves, length of shoot and root, root dry mass and rooting percentage. The luminosity 73 μmol·m-2·s-1 provided higher values in length of root and dry mass of leaf and root. The red LED provided plantlets with greater growth. Thus, for the in vitro cultivation of Piper aduncum, 1/4MS, environment temperature of 25, light intensity of 73

Abstract: the main objective of this study was to analyze the functional fitness of the elderly when practicing aquagym. the study involved the analyses of a group of 18 female individuals with mean age of 65.5± 5.84, practicing aquagym at the center of excellence in physical activity (ceaf). the range of tests used in this study was taken from the rikli and jones methods (1999) and adapted by morrow jr. (2003), and consisted of analyzing the strengths, flexibilities, agility and balance of the upper and lower limbs, taking into consideration their aerobic resistance and body composition. from the results of these tests we can observe that everyone attained an average or above score during elbow contractions, touching toes whilst seated, standing up and walking, and gained low scores when marching statically for two minutes and bending their arms behind their backs. on the bmi (body mass index) tests, 65% of the subjects who were overweight or obese scored lower in comparison to the remaining 35% with normal bmi. aquagym activities can improve the elderly's functional fitness, especially regarding the flexibility and mobility of upper and lower limbs.
Amplitudes in pp and p-pbar scattering
Ferreira, Erasmo;Pereira, Flavio
High Energy Physics - Phenomenology , 2007, DOI: 10.1142/S0218301307008410
Abstract: Solutions for the amplitudes that give accurate description of pp and p-pbar scattering at high energies are investigated, with particular attention given to the properties of their zeros and slopes, whose determination is required for the study of the Coulomb interference region. Proper extrapolations of these quantities to the LHC energies are important for the analysis of the forthcoming experiments.
A tirania da verdade no processo penal brasileiro: às voltas com o “princípio” da verdade real
Marcio Ferreira Rodrigues Pereira
In dubio pro societate é (?) a solu o. Uma forma perversa de lidar com a dúvida no processo penal brasileiro
Marcio Ferreira Rodrigues Pereira
Karina Pereira Ferreira
ECCOM , 2012,
Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to analyze how the actions of real characters of the tragedy of the Titanic had changed their stories to fit the proposal of the screenplay director James Cameron, and how the fictional characters drove the plot completely and ideal for the success of screenplay. Cameron made changes in history that made the difference between the Titanic to be just another movie about the tragedy, to become the biggest movie of recent times, with a captivating story that holds people's attention today.
Eikonal profile functions and amplitudes for $\rm pp$ and $\bar{\rm p}{\rm p}$ scattering
Flavio Pereira,Erasmo Ferreira
Physics , 1998, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.59.014008
Abstract: The eikonal profile function $J(b)$ obtained from the Model of the Stochastic Vacuum is parametrized in a form suitable for comparison with experiment. The amplitude and the extended profile function (including imaginary and real parts) are determined directly from the complete pp and $\bar{\rm p}$p elastic scattering data at high energies. Full and accurate representation of the data is presented, with smooth energy dependence of all parameters. The changes needed in the original profile function required for description of scattering beyond the forward direction are described.
Zeros, Dips and Signs in pp and p$\rm\bf\bar p$ Elastic Amplitudes
Flavio Pereira,Erasmo Ferreira
Physics , 1999, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevD.61.077507
Abstract: The dips observed in the differential cross sections of elastic pp and p$\bar{\rm p}$ scattering are studied in terms of the locations of the zeros of the real and imaginary parts of the amplitude and of the sign of real part at large $|t|$. It is confirmed that the differences in shapes of the dips in the pp and p$\bar{\rm p}$ systems are determined by a change of sign of the real tail, which seems to be determined by perturbative QCD contributions.
Dependence of maxima in space
Helena Ferreira,Luisa Pereira
Statistics , 2014, DOI: 10.1088/1742-6596/574/1/012021
Abstract: We propose a coefficient that measures the dependence among large values for spatial processes of maxima. Its main properties are: a) $k$ locations can be taken into account; b) it takes values in $[0,1]$ and higher values indicate stronger dependence; c) it is independent of the univariate marginal distributions of the random field; d) it can be related with the tail dependence and the extremal coefficients; e) it agrees with the concordance property for multivariate distributions; f) it has as a particular case the variogram from geostatistics; g) it can be easily estimated.

Health (Health) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/health.2014.614207
Abstract: Introduction: Oral health education is an important issue that should be given to children and adolescents, allowing the acquisition of correct oral health behaviors. The objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of oral health behaviors among a sample of portuguese adolescents and verify the association with socio-demographic factors, in order to analyze the main needs related with oral health education to improve oral health status among adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed with a sample of 447 adolescents aged 12 to 19 years old, attending a public school in Sátão, Portugal. A self-administered questionnaire was applied questioning about socio-demographic factors and oral health behaviors to each adolescent in the classroom. Prevalence was expressed in proportions and crude odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence intervals (CI) were used to measure the strength of association between oral health behaviors and socio-demographic factors. Results: The prevalence of tooth brushing (twice-a-day or more) was 90.6%. Five point eight percent of adolescents reported daily flossing, more frequent among female gender (female, OR = 2.03, 95% CI = (1.35 to 3.05)) and adolescents older than 15 years (>15 years, OR = 1.90, 95% CI = (1.24 to 2.92)). Sixty-seven percent had at least one dental appointment in the previous twelve months. The prevalence of dental appointments was associated with the father’s professional situation (unemployed, OR = 0.33, 95% CI = (0.17 to 0.65)) and crowding index (>1, OR = 0.4, 95% CI = (0.16 to 0.98)). Thirty-two point nine percent of adolescents referred having at least one episode of dental pain during their lives. Conclusion: Considering the results of the present study that show the need of improvement of some aspects related with oral health among adolescents, oral health community programs and primary preventive strategies, such as improvement of oral health education in schools should be considered in order to reduce the risk level of oral diseases and develop better oral health behaviors.
