Abstract: the first police novels establish a counterdiscourse with respect to the immigration polices of the chilean state, causing conflict regarding the situation of the foreigners that came to inhabit in out territory. italians are presented as a closed community through which money, body and crime flow. given this scenario, they wouldn't bring any benefit to the country. due to the fact that immigrants are disregarded as something possitive, it is proposed that their place must be taken by popular chilean characters. this would be a way of rewarding them for the persecutions and the mistreatments they have endured for so long. the first police novels criminalise the immigrant figure and disregard the populat character as a criminal, aspiring to establish a new order in the territory
Acta literaria , 2005, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-68482005000200002
Abstract: maría luisa bombal?s (1910-1930) la última niebla, first published in 1934, is not devoid of socio-political criticism. it fits into the category of novels which present unfulfilled female worlds. the unveiling of a private sphere in crisis makes possible the unfolding of a conscience; this in turn gives shape to a world detached from reality. this is a phenomenon which appears with great force in the narrative of chilean bourgeoisie women at the turn of the 20th century. in the case of bombal, it will acquire traits which are particularly confrontational, due -to great extent- to the irruption of eroticism as a constituent element of intimacy
Cánovas Emhart,Rodrigo; Scherman Filer,Jorge;
Acta literaria , 2007, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-68482007000100002
Abstract: in this paper we analyze three novels of chilean-jewish writers, who dealt with the tradition of this millenary people: donde mejor canta un pájaro (alejandro jodorowsky); por el ojo de la cerradura (jorge scherman filer); and las jaulas invisibles (ana vásquez-bronfman). these novels have been composed from the figure of the genealogical tree, based on parodical, allegorical and grotesque discourses, and the humorous irony so familiar among hebrews.
Barraza J,Eduardo;
Alpha (Osorno) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22012010000100007
Abstract: cadáver tuerto (2005) anticipates the variations of the novel genre in chilean literatura, priviledging and contemplating the writing process. labarca parodies, in this novel, the crossings among fiction and reality, between life and autobiography, between television, radio and written newsprint discourse.
Rubio Rubio,Cecilia;
Acta literaria , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-68482008000200002
Abstract: in this study i examine the concepts shown by juan emar in his reflexive-character writings from the '20s (cavilaciones (1919-1922) and articles on art (1923-1927). these concepts build up a systematic semantics net that allows to propose a global interpretation of emar's work understood as a unit of sense. this conceptualisation is an occultist metaphysics that refers to the individual-world relationship as a cognitive and constructive-creative relationship according to eurythmic poetics, the base of which is a theory of equilibrium governed by numerical-geometrical laws. here, i claim that there is evidence of this constructive system working in emar's writing practice of fiction texts from the '30s (ayer, diez and umbral).
Rodríguez Ferrer,Rocío;
Acta literaria , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-68482011000200002
Abstract: the article develops a reading of the chilean novel patas de perro in his possible configuration as picaresque novel. this allows to pay attention, on the one hand, to features of configuration so much structural as semantics and, on the other hand, to approach from a different perspective two central subject matters of the latin-american contemporary studies: the marginality and the construction and validation of the subject. likewise, it makes possible a rereading of the classic spanish tradition on having warned that it raises problematic that they have very much of current.
Cánovas Emhart,Rodrigo; Scherman Filer,Jorge;
Estudios filológicos , 2008, DOI: 10.4067/S0071-17132008000100002
Abstract: in this paper we analyze the books of four female chilean-jewish writers, in which very different views on what it means to be hebrew are observed: para siempre en mi memoria (sonia guralnik); sagrada memoria: reminiscencias de una ni?a judía en chile y always from somewhere else: a memoir of my jewish chilean father (marjorie agosín); poste restante (cynthia rimsky); and escenario de guerra (andrea jeftanovic). these texts have been written from the following spaces: the ghetto, the genealogical tree and the wandering jew, the circular journey between hebrew and chilean origins and the family and world tragedies associated with the war conflicts of the twentieth century.
álvarez,Ignacio; Massmann,Stefanie;
Estudios filológicos , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0071-17132011000100001
Abstract: this article explores the new perspectives provided by manuel rojas’ early work regarding identity and social relationships of marginal subjects. reading rojas’ short stories, specially "el delincuente" and "el vaso de leche", we try to determine the ideological substrate of these new representations, which arrive simultaneously with the main role taken by popular groups in chilean history and constitute the foundation of rojas’ later novels.
Alpha (Osorno) , 2009, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22012009000100002
Abstract: the literary avant-garde represents a cosmopolitan trend in latin america, but in many writers there is also an important concern about national identity. this article shows how juan emar, a cosmopolitan chilean author, takes part in the discussion about national art during the 1920’s and 1930’s. if artistic activity carries a national identity, he proposes, in his notas de arte, it appears in representation as a process, not as an object. the novel miltín 1934 (1935) will put into practice this rule by showing the lapse of 19th century national pact and the author’s reluctance to commit to a new nationality, collective and popular, that will be constructed throughout the 20th century.
