A New Preconditioner with Two Variable Relaxation Parameters for Saddle Point Linear Systems with Highly Singular(1,1) Blocks  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper, we provide new preconditioner for saddle point linear systems with (1,1) blocks that have a high nullity. The preconditioner is block triangular diagonal with two variable relaxation paremeters and it is extension of results in [1] and [2]. Theoretical analysis shows that all eigenvalues of preconditioned matrix is strongly clustered. Finally, numerical tests confirm our analysis.

Abstract: We provide new preconditioners with two variable relaxation parameters for the saddle point linear systems arising from finite element discretization of time-harmonic Maxwell equations in mixed form. The new preconditioners are of block-triangular forms and Schur complement-free. They are extensions of the results in Cheng et al., 2009, Grief and Schötzau, 2007, and Huang et al., 2009. Theoretical analysis shows that all eigenvalues of the preconditioned matrices are tightly clustered, and numerical tests confirm our analysis.
Development of Novel Microsatellite Markers in the Omei Treefrog (Rhacophorus omeimontis)

Abstract: Eleven novel microsatellite markers were developed and characterized for the Omei treefrog ( Rhacophorus omeimontis) using the fast isolation by AFLP of sequences containing repeats method. Polymorphism of each locus was tested in 24 individuals from two wild populations. The number of alleles per locus ranged from 4 to 15, the average observed and expected heterozygosity per locus ranged from 0.250 to 0.839 and from 0.562 to 0.914, respectively. Two of the 11 microsatellite loci showed significant deviations from Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium. Two locus pairs showed significant linkage disequilibrium. Neither evidence of scoring error due to stuttering nor evidence of large allele dropout was found at all of the 11 loci, but evidence of null alleles was indicated at two loci because of general excess of homozygotes for most allele size classes. These polymorphic loci will be useful markers in studying mate choice of the Omei treefrog.

Ultrasonic Measurement System with Infrared Communication Technology

Abstract: In order to achieve remote control of ultrasonic measurement system, an infrared communication-based ultrasonic measurement system is developed combining wireless communication technology with ultrasonic measurement technology. The hardware circuits of entire system and the achievement of several key technologies are discussed, including transducer structure and parameters selection, design of the corresponding circuit. The system is composed of host and slave parts. The host part is composed of host microcontroller, receiver circuit, liquid crystal display circuit and infrared communication module. The slave part is composed of ultrasonic transmitter, infrared communication modules and single-chip component. The host and slave parts transmit data through the infrared communication module. AT89S52 microcontroller is used as systems main control unit and ZHX1010 infrared communication chip for wireless data transmission. The system has low-cost, the implementation of convenient, easy-to-use, convenient, flexible, reliable transmission of data, and stable performance.
Experimental research on utilization of industrial wastes to stabilize soft soil

Abstract: According to the particularity of the hydrates system needed to stabilize soft soil and the characteristic of structure formation process of the stabilized soil, soil stabilizers were prepared mainly with industrial wastes such as calcined coal gangue, carbide slag and phosphogypsum. The results indicate that based on rational component design in which the technical advantages of different industrial wastes, such as supplying alkaline hydrates and expansible hydrates, adjusting the concordance of growing process between cementitious hydrates and expansible hydrates, were fully utilized, the stabilizers prepared with industrial wastes can enhance the strength of stabilized soil by several times than cement.
Chlorobenzene degradation by electro-heterogeneous catalysis in aqueous solution: intermediates and reaction mechanism

Abstract: This study was performed to investigate the variables that influence chlorobenzene (CB) degradation in aqueous solution by electro-heterogeneous catalysis. The effects of current density, pH, and electrolyte concentration on CB degradation were determined. The degradation efficiency of CB was almost 100% with an initial CB concentration of 50 mg/L, current density 15 mA/cm2, initial pH 10, electrolyte concentration 0.1 mol/L, and temperature 25℃ after 90 min of reaction. Under the same conditions, the degradation efficiency of CB was only 51% by electrochemical (EC) process, which showed that electro-heterogeneous catalysis was more efficient than EC alone. The analysis results of Purge-and-Trap chromatography-mass spectrometry (P&T/GC/MS) and ion chromatography the release of Cl-. Further oxidation of phenol and biphenyl produced p-Vinylbenzoic acid and hydroquinol. Finally, the compounds were oxidized to butenedioic acid and other small-molecule acids.
Transcytosis of HIV-1 through Vaginal Epithelial Cells Is Dependent on Trafficking to the Endocytic Recycling Pathway

Abstract: Background While it is accepted that viruses can enter epithelial cells by endocytosis, the lack of an established biological mechanism for the trafficking of infectious virions through vaginal epithelial cells and their release from the plasma membrane has contributed to ongoing controversy about whether endocytosis is a mere artifact of some cell culture systems and whether squamous vaginal epithelial cells are even relevant as it pertains to HIV-1 transmission. Methodology/Principal Findings In this study, we investigated the intracellular trafficking pathway that HIV-1 exploits to transcytose vaginal epithelial cells. The reduction of endosome tubulation by recycling endosome inhibitors blocked transcytosis of HIV-1 in a cell culture and transwell system. In addition, we demonstrate that although heat-inactivated virus was endocytosed as efficiently as native virus, heat-inactivated virus was trafficked exclusively to the lysosomal pathway for degradation following endocytosis. Lysosomal protease-specific inhibitors blocked the degradation of inactivated virions. Immunofluorescence analysis not only demonstrated that HIV-1 was inside the cells but the different colocalization pattern of native vs. heat inactivated virus with transferrin provided conclusive evidence that HIV-1 uses the recycling pathway to get across vaginal epithelial cells. Conclusions/Significance Altogether, our findings demonstrate the precise intracellular trafficking pathway utilized by HIV-1 in epithelial cells, confirms that HIV-1 transcytosis through vaginal epithelial cells is a biological phenomenon and brings to light the differential intracellular trafficking of native vs heat-inactivated HIV-1 which with further exploration could prove to provide valuable insights that could be used in the prevention of transcytosis/transmission of HIV-1 across the mucosal epithelia.
A Study of Actor and Action Semantic Retention in Video Supervoxel Segmentation

Abstract: Existing methods in the semantic computer vision community seem unable to deal with the explosion and richness of modern, open-source and social video content. Although sophisticated methods such as object detection or bag-of-words models have been well studied, they typically operate on low level features and ultimately suffer from either scalability issues or a lack of semantic meaning. On the other hand, video supervoxel segmentation has recently been established and applied to large scale data processing, which potentially serves as an intermediate representation to high level video semantic extraction. The supervoxels are rich decompositions of the video content: they capture object shape and motion well. However, it is not yet known if the supervoxel segmentation retains the semantics of the underlying video content. In this paper, we conduct a systematic study of how well the actor and action semantics are retained in video supervoxel segmentation. Our study has human observers watching supervoxel segmentation videos and trying to discriminate both actor (human or animal) and action (one of eight everyday actions). We gather and analyze a large set of 640 human perceptions over 96 videos in 3 different supervoxel scales. Furthermore, we conduct machine recognition experiments on a feature defined on supervoxel segmentation, called supervoxel shape context, which is inspired by the higher order processes in human perception. Our ultimate findings suggest that a significant amount of semantics have been well retained in the video supervoxel segmentation and can be used for further video analysis.
