Case Report of Ectopic Pregnancy during Controlled Ovarian Stimulation without Oocytes Harvested and Late Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome  [PDF]

Abstract: Here we reported a rare case of misdiagnosed ectopic pregnancy (EP) due to unintended ovulation during controlled ovarian stimulation (COS) in GnRH agonist cycle, resulting in no oocytes harvested and late hyper-stimulation syndrome (OHSS). The patient was a 33-year old primary infertile woman due to male’s factors and underwent her second in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycle using GnRH agonist protocol, and no oocytes harvested on ovum picked-up (OPU) day. The start of gonadotropin usage was on day 8th of her period, and the P level increased rapidly and strangely high from day 8th after gonadotropin usage. The E2 level and follicles grew normally but finally no oocytes harvested. She was diagnosed as late ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome (OHSS) 7 days after OPU. 20 days after OPU, no menstruation come and a positive urine test of hCG were reported. And the patient was diagnosed as EP by laparoscopy. In conclusion, rapidly increased P level, no oocyte retrieval and late onset of OHSS should be very important clues to diagnose this misdiagnosed EP.
輔仁大學圖書資訊學系 能力檢測問卷之開發 Development of a Competency Questionnaire for LIS Undergraduates at Fu-Jen Catholic University

Abstract: 圖書資訊學的職場亟需畢業的學生具備科技的能力以因應職場實務之表現。面臨未來學生專業之需求,圖書資訊教育必須隨時調整專業課程,以因應職場需求之變化。在專業訓練上,畢業的學生必須有優秀的表現,以跟上科技的趨勢。為了因應圖書資訊之專業需求,輔仁大學圖書資訊學系歷年來已由傳統以圖書為主的科學而轉變成為與資訊科技並重的學系。2008年為配合輔仁大學卓越計畫各學系能力指標之訂定,系所教師共同研討,訂定31項能力指標。為了測試這31項能力指標的信度與適用性,這31項能力指標的內涵轉為問卷的形式,而由學生填寫,以反映學生自我評量的能力水準。依據216位大學部生所填寫的資料進行因素分析的結果,本研究萃取五個主要因素,依序為:圖書資訊服務、媒體素養、網路素養、電腦素養,以及系統開發能。以高、低年級進行t檢定結果,高年級學生對於大部分的自評能力檢測項目之反應皆高於低年級學生 (p < 0.05)。 The LIS workplace demands that graduates can function optimally and keep up with technological developments. To prepare students for Library and Information Science (LIS) practice, educators are challenged by the need to adapt their curricula to changes taking place in the practice of library and information science. Coping with the changing needs of LIS profession- als, the Department of Library and Information Science at Fu-Jen Catholic University has shifted from a focus of traditional library science toward a balance with information technology. In 2008, 31 competencies for under- graduate level were set up by faculty members as a partial requirement for “Teaching Excellence Project”. These competencies were translated into a questionnaire format for assessing students’perception about their capabili- ties. To test its reliability and the appropriateness of its competence con- structs, factor analysis was conducted based on 216 data gathered. Findings revealed a simple five-factor competence structure (Library Information Ser- vices, Media Literacy, Network Literacy, Computer Literacy, and System-De- velopment). T-test indicated that students with more years in LIS perceived themselves as being more competent in most competence constructs (p < 0.05).
線上學習中電腦媒介溝通之個別差異 Individual Differences in Computer-Mediated Communication for Web-Based Learning

Abstract: 線上學習最重要的關鍵在於學生能夠藉由線上學習的環境,達成學生與學生之間的互動、學生與教師之間的互動,以及在這些互動過程中所產生協同學習的結果。然而學生在線上討論區參與討論互動的特質可能與學生本身的特質有關。學生參與線上互動的程度,與學習的關係值得進一步分析。本研究進行過程主要以線上學習課程「電腦人因」為例,蒐集學生線上學習討論的資料。在這個課程中,為了助長學生自導式的學習,透過課堂任務的指定,以及專題研究的完成,鼓勵學生進行必要的線上互動。本研究主要的重點在於觀察(一)學生個別差異在課業相關之線上討論參與線行動表現的關係,以及(二)線上活動參與與學習表現的關係。配合質性與量化的方式,搜集學生學習過程與成果資料,並針對學生所發佈的文字資料進行歸類分析,然後依據歸類結果進行數量的統計。其中各種個別差異的指標,包括性別、認知型態、學生讀書學習策略。學習過程中,教學上也依據學生特質做了對應的調整,以因應學生學習需求。除了線上學習紀錄之外,研究並蒐集了學生的學習檔案、學習作業與專題成果,以便於進一步的分析。研究結果歸納學生個別差異與線上表現的特定項目具有顯著相關。而學生線上學習參與的程度不同,學習表現結果亦具顯著差異(p<0.0001)。 The learning process in online learning environment involves interactions among students, interaction between instructor and students, and collabora- tions in learning that result from these interactions. Students’ involvement in online interaction might relate to individual differences. The relationship be- tween individual differences and students’ learning and actions in online inter- action needs to be explored. In this study, a web-based learning course “Com- puter Ergonomics” was employed to collect students’ online interaction data. Learning tasks and a project assignment were embedded in the course as a way to foster self-directed learning. The main focus of the study were to examine 1. how individual differences related to students’ actions in online discussion and their reactions toward learning, and 2. whether students with different levels of involvement in online discussion differed in their learning outcomes. Both qualitative and quantitative approaches were used in the research to analyze students’ verbal responses in the discussion forum. Students’ responses were categorized and counted for further analysis. Various indications, including gender, cognitive style, and use of study strategies were used as variables for analysis of response types among students. In addition to discussion data, students’ learning portfolios, project assignments and work sheets were also gathered for further analysis. The results of the study indicate that some of the variables correlated significantly with students’ action and socialization in on- line discussion and their learning reactions. Students’ with different levels of involvement performed differently (p < 0.0001).
學術研究問題解決過程之不確定性分析 Uncertainty in the Process of Scholarly Problem-Solving

Abstract: 本研究在於探討學術研究人員研究過程之不確定。研究以Wilson(1999)問題解決模式作為研究之架框,以探索研究人員之不確定性。研究問題涵蓋:研究問題涵蓋:(1)學術研究人員對於解決問題各個階段不確定性的反應情形如何?(2)在學術研究進行過程中,研究人員以資訊資源管道解決問題之重視程度如何?(3)在解決問題的過程中,研究人員經歷不確定因素之過程如何?本研究進行過程透過問卷調查蒐集134份問卷資料,並深入訪談14位研究人員。依據本研究探族群之反應,研究人員對於以各種資訊資源管道解決問題之重視程度以專業發表之文獻資料最高,包括:學術性電子期刊、學術論文所提供之參考文獻、資料庫系統之文獻資料都得到相當高的評分。研究過程中的不確定感,以「問題確認」與「問題定義」階段之勾選人次較多;但就不確定程度的分析而言,「陳述結果」與「問題解決」階段之不確定程度顯著高於「問題確認」與「問題定義」階段(p<0.05)。研究人員對於研究過程中的不確定性則偏重於研究問題解決過程的許多不確定因素,其中以「我會擔心我在研究過程所蒐集的數據資料是否深入」、「我會擔心自己所蒐集之研究數據資料是否呼應我所提出的研究假設」、「我會擔心自己研究結論是否能獲得學術上的肯定」、「我會擔心我在研究過程所蒐集的數據資料是否足夠」等題項的反應之不確定感較高。訪談資料顯示研究過程的不確定歷程,涵蓋研究執行過程中內在與外在的各層面因素,而突破障礙的信念與暢通之圖書資訊資源獲取管道為研究成功不可或缺的要素。 In this study, uncertainty in information seeking for research among scholarly researchers was explored.Wilson’s problem-solving model (1999) was used as a research framework for identifying uncertainty among researchers.Research questions were covered: (1) How did researchers react to various uncertainties along with various problem-solving stages in their research? (2) How did researchers react to the use of information resources in solving the research problems? (3) How did researchers experience various uncertainties in their research? A set of questionnaire items was used to collected quantitative data from respondents (134 valid data).Interview was also used to collect in-depth information from 14 respondents.The findings of this study indicate that scholarly researchers rated highly about the use of scholarly electronic journals, bibliographical information from literatures, and scholarly information databases to solve research problem.In response to perceived uncertainty toward various research stages, more were obtained from “identifying problems” and “defining problem” stages. However, mean uncertainty ratings in “problem resolution” and “solution statement” were significantly higher than those in “identifying problems” and “defining problem” (p < 0.05). Abstract: 隨著教育改革的推進,「主題式探索」成為近年教育領域的重要風潮。在這個趨勢下,學生透過深入的研究,主動的蒐集、整合與主題相關的資料並完成主題報告。本研究主要目的在於分析學生在主題式學習下所須加強的圖書資訊能力,並透過課程提供學習機會,於課後分析學生進步的情形。研究對象是台北市某國民小學五年某班的32名學生。研究透過個案研究的方式,觀察學生在圖書資訊利用學習活動過程中的資訊尋求行為,資料蒐集的方式以觀察、訪談與學習檔案分析為主。研究進行方式乃透過學生主題探索時的行動與資訊尋求行為觀察,分析所須加強的圖書資訊相關技能,再依據學生之能力,設計符合其需求的圖書資訊利用學習活動,並在學生參與學習活動之後,分析學生在主題式學習進步之處。研究結果歸納學生圖書資訊技能的提升有助於主題式學習,學生對於圖書資訊利用學習活動的各單元感到滿意。 With the advent of educational reform, project-based inquiry becomes one of important new trends for school learning. Under this learning trend, students are encouraged to research in a specific knowledge area, and to gather and integrate related information to accomplish their project tasks. The purpose of this study was to identify library information skills needed in a project-based inquiry and design instruction to meet students’ learning needs. Followed by the implementation of library and information learning activities for supporting needed skills, students’ learning of library and information skills was analyzed. Subjects were 32 fifth graders from an elementary school at Taipei city. A case study approach was employed for data collection, including observations, interviews, and students’ learning portfolios. In this study, library and information skills needed for accomplishing a project task were pre-assessed by observing their actions and information seeking behaviors in accomplishing project tasks. Then, library and information learning activities were designed, implemented, and evaluated. Student’s progress in project-based inquiry was summarized. The results of the study indicate that students benefited from learning library and information skills in the project-based inquiry. Students were also satisfied with library and information learning activities.
Solving Large Scale Nonlinear Equations by a New ODE Numerical Integration Method  [PDF]

Abstract: In this paper a new ODE numerical integration method was successfully applied to solving nonlinear equations. The method is of same simplicity as fixed point iteration, but the efficiency has been significantly improved, so it is especially suitable for large scale systems. For Brown’s equations, an existing article reported that when the dimension of the equation N = 40, the subroutines they used could not give a solution, as compared with our method, we can easily solve this equation even when N = 100. Other two large equations have the dimension of N = 1000, all the existing available methods have great difficulties to handle them, however, our method proposed in this paper can deal with those tough equations without any difficulties. The sigularity and choosing initial values problems were also mentioned in this paper.
Solving Load Flow Problems of Power System by Explicit Pseudo-Transient Continuation (E-ψtc) Method  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper is a further study of two papers [1] and [2], which were related to Ill-Conditioned Load Flow Problems and were published by IEEE Trans. PAS. The authors of this paper have some different opinions, for example, the 11-bus system is not an ill-conditioned system. In addition, a new approach to solve Load Flow Problems, E-ψtc, is introduced. It is an explicit method; solving linear equations is not needed. It can handle very tough and very large systems. The advantage of this method has been fully proved by two examples. The authors give this new method a detailed description of how to use it to solve Load Flow Problems and successfully apply it to the 43-bus and the 11-bus systems. The authors also propose a strategy to test the reliability, and by solving gradient equations, this new method can answer if the solution exists or not.
New conception in continuum theory of constitutive equation for anisotropic crystalline polymer liquids  [PDF]

Abstract: A new continuum theory of the constitutive equation of co-rotational derivative type is developed for anisotropic viscoelastic fluid—liquid crystalline (LC) polymers. A new concept of simple anisotropic fluid is introduced. On the basis of principles of anisotropic simple fluid, stress behaviour is described by velocity gradient tensor and spin tensor instead of the velocity gradient tensor in the classic Leslie—Ericksen continuum theory. Analyzing rheological nature of the fluid and using tensor analysis a general form of the constitutive equ- ation of co-rotational type is established for the fluid. A special term of high order in the equation is introduced by author to describe the sp- ecial change of the normal stress differences which is considered as a result of director tumbling by Larson et al. Analyzing the experimental results by Larson et al., a principle of Non- oscillatory normal stress is introduced which leads to simplification of the problem with relaxation times. The special behaviour of non- symmetry of the shear stress is predicted by using the present model for LC polymer liquids. Two shear stresses in shear flow of LC polymer liquids may lead to vortex and rotation flow, i.e. director tumbling in the flow. The first and second normal stress differences are calculated by the model special behaviour of which is in agree- ment with experiments. In the research, the com- putational symbolic manipulation such as computer software Maple is used. For the anisotropic viscoelastic fluid the constitutive equation theory is of important fundamental significance.
Using Integrating Method to Teach Biochemical Pharmacy Technology  [PDF]

Abstract: An integrating method to teach Biochemical Pharmacy Technology was developed to help students understand the technology to produce biochemical pharmacy well in this paper. By the integrating method, students can compare the main content of the biochemical pharmacy and the technology to produce them. Students were encouraged to demonstrate the connection and difference of the various biochemical pharmacies. The results showed that the performance of students with integrating method is significantly better than that of students without integrating method (p < 0.05). In conclusion, integrating method can enhance students’ performance on Biochemical Pharmacy Technology.
A new constitutive theory for extrusion-extensional flow of anisotropic liquid crystalline polymer fluid  [PDF]

Abstract: A new continuum theory of the constitutive equation of co-rotational derivative type was developed by the author for anisotropic viscoelastic fluid-liquid crystalline (LC) polymers (S.F. Han, 2008, 2010) . This paper is a continuation of the recent publication [1] to study extrusion-extensional flow of the fluid. A new concept of simple anisotropic fluid is introduced. On the basis of anisotropic simple fluid, stress behavior is described by velocity gradient tensor F and spin tensor W instead of the velocity gradient tensor D in the classic Leslie?Ericksen continuum theory. A special form of the constitutive equation of the co-rotational type is established for the fluid. Using the special form of the constitutive equation in components a computational analytical theory of the extrusion-extensional flow is developed for the LC polymer liquids - anisotropic viscoelastic fluid. Application of the constitutive theory to the flow is successful in predicting bifurcation of elongational viscosity and contraction of extrudate for LC polymer liquids–anisotropic viscoelastic fluid. The contraction of extrudate of LC polymer liquids may be associated with the stored elastic energy conversion into that necessary for bifurcation of elongational viscosity in extrusion extensional flow of the fluid.
