Dogal Afetler ve Cevre Dergisi , 2015, DOI: 10.21324/dacd.61132
Abstract: Kinematic analysis method is one of the widely used methods to evaluate potential failures such as planar, wedge and toppling in rock slopes. In this method, orientations of slope and discontinuity with the friction angle of the discontinuities planes are used to analyze possible failure types. However, the reliability of the results obtained from kinematical analyses is not sufficient for optimum slope design. For this reason, it is necessary that the results of kinematical analyses should be controlled using limit equilibrium or numerical analyses. In this study, stability of rock slopes on the highway of Ba?larba??-Tekke (Gümü?hane) was investigated using kinematical and limit equilibrium analyses. The results of thekinematical analyses showed that there may be planar and wedge type instabilities for the rock slopes numbered 5, 6, and 7. The limit equilibrium analyses conducted for the types of plane and wedge show that the rock slopes numbered 5 and 6 are instable while number 7 is stable.

Türk Patoloji Dergisi , 2011,
Abstract: Objective: To investigate the diagnostic distribution of neck masses treated surgically at our clinic and also to discuss the clinical presentation and histological finding of these pathologies.Material and Method: We retrospectively reviewed the records (age, sex, clinical presentation and histological findings) of 201 patients who presented at our clinic with neck masses between 2006 and 2010.Results: Of the 201 patients, 98 (48.75%) were classified as inflammatory masses, 67 (33.33%) as neoplastic neck masses, and 36 (17.91%) as congenital neck masses. The mean age was 27.2±17.2 in patients with inflammatory neck masses and 11.4±4.6 for congenital neck masses. In the neoplastic neck masses group, the mean age was 37.4±11.6 for benign lesions but 49.4±20.6 in malignant lesions. Conclusion: When a neck mass is seen, neoplasms should be considered in older adults and inflammatory and congenital masses in children and young patients. Although the history, medical examination and additional diagnostic methods provide important information, the exact diagnosis may only be obtained by histopathological examination.
Momentum-dependence of charmonium spectral functions from lattice QCD
M. B. Oktay,J. I. Skullerud
Physics , 2010,
Abstract: We compute correlators and spectral functions for J/psi and eta_c mesons at nonzero momentum on anisotropic lattices with Nf=2. We find no evidence of significant momentum dependence at the current level of precision. In the pseudoscalar channel, the ground state appears to survive up to T~450MeV or 2.1T_c. In the vector channel, medium modifications may occur at lower temperatures.

Abstract: Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) are initiatives that were established in the USA with the aim of solving the personal issues of employees who have alcoholism problems. The basis behind this act is to win the problematic but experienced personnel back through professional care. As the range of EAPs widen within years, these programs started to be adopted by other countries as well. In this study, literature about the definition, procedures, coverage areas and the evaluation of EAPs is analysed. The very recent developments in Turkey, on this subject which has no resources in Turkish, are examined and suggestions for the future are presented.
Does social media reduce 'corporate media influence' on journalism?: The Case of Turkish Media
Ceren Sozeri
Estudos em Comunica??o , 2011,
Abstract: McChesney described one of the biggest problem of journalism as “the journalists have any power to be autonomous from owners and advertisers” (2008:58). Most of media market have been dominated by a few media companies, furthermore a few media conglomerates who had expanded with merger and acquisitions transactions control the biggest part of the global media and entertainment industry. This concentration of media power and penetration of commercial interest in the news media has been seen as affecting the mode of news, profession of journalism and outputs, and consequently, diversity and democracy itself. research aims to examine the potential of social media to create autonomous spaces for journalists working under the commercial pressure of their corporation. In order to analyze this new kind of news area for journalism, three different qualitative methods are used in different steps of research. First, social media utterances of popular journalists were observed to reveal their journalistic intention and they were also evaluated using two case stud- ies about social events which had been tweeted multiple times for many Turkish users (trending topics) in Twitter’s agenda. After diversifying the sample, different types of journalists’ social media experiments, including their responsibility to corporations, were examined by qualitative methods including in-depth interviews. Our ndings show that although interactions between the journalists and audience observably changed, Twitter, as with other social networks, didn’t diminish the in uence of corporate interests on journalism in Turkish media organisations.
Results on the Supremum of Fractional Brownian Motion
Ceren Vardar
Mathematics , 2009,
Abstract: We show that the distribution of the square of the supremum of reflected fractional Brownian motion up to time a, with Hurst parameter-H greater than 1/2, is related to the distribution of its hitting time to level $1,$ using the self similarity property of fractional Brownian motion. It is also proven that second moment of supremum of reflected fractional Brownian motion up to time $a$ is bounded above by $a^{2H}.$ Similar relations are obtained for the supremum of fractional Brownian motion with Hurst parameter greater than 1/2, and its hitting time to level $1.$ What is more, we obtain an upper bound on the complementary probability distribution of the supremum of fractional Brownian motion and reflected fractional Brownian motion up to time a, using Jensen's and Markov's inequalities. A sharper bound is observed on the distribution of the supremum of fractional Brownian motion by the properties of Gamma distribution. Finally, applications of the given results to the financial markets are investigated and partial results are provided.
“It’s More than Doing Sports Together, You Know. It’s Deeply Personal”: Preliminary Findings of an Ongoing Qualitative Study on the Relationships between Personal Fitness Trainers and Trainees  [PDF]

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2017.59008
Abstract: Training at the gym has become, without question, one of the most popular leisure pursuits in contemporary Western societies. In addition to conventional forms of fitness training with free weights, on machines or in exercise-to-music classes, more and more gym members decide to work out with a certified personal trainer on a one-to-one basis, often over long periods of time. The purpose of this ongoing study is to explore the relationship between personal fitness trainers and trainees with a focus on their subjective experiences. Eight semi-structured, indepth interviews were conducted so far and analysed through a thematic analysis. Two central themes have emerged from the data: First, the trainer-trainee relationship is for both sides more than a transactional event but an emotionally significant encounter. Second, trainees describe an occasional reversal of roles where they show interest in and concern about the trainer. Future research should account for possible gender differences, changes of relational dynamics over time and possible negative experiences of both trainers and trainees.

Abstract: This study aims to investigate the effects of acute pre-exercise glycerol loading (GL) on including lactate and maximum aerobic power. In this study, 10 healthy elite athletes with a mean age of 18.20±0.61 years, with a mean body height of 178.20±1.78 cms, with a mean body weight of 65.17±2.049 kgs and 10 healthy sedentars from different profession groups with a mean age of 19.70±0.47 years, with a mean body height of 169,10±2.22 cms and with a mean body weight of 71.09±1.87 kgs, totally 20 males were used as subjects. On the first day of the research, blood samples were taken from ear lobe for lactate measurement and from analysis before the shuttle run test. On the second day, after loading 1gr/kg-1 glycerol mixed with water to the subjects two hours before testing, max VO2 was determined by using shuttle run test in both groups. Statistical analyzes were conducted by SPSS. Mean values of standard deviations were calculated. The independent t-tests were used to determine the differences between two groups. Also, paired t-tests were performed to determine the differences within groups. Results of this study indicated that max VO2 of experiment and control groups were found higher after loading at 0.05 significance level. Max VO2 of experiment group was significantly higher than controls. Lactate levels were increased after exercise and GL (p≤0.05). Control group had a significantly higher lactate level than experiment group but there was no statistical significant difference between two groups after glycerol loading. As a result, there is a significant effect of acute pre-exercise glycerol loading on maximum aerobic power whereas no significant effect on the lactate may be partly due to the amount of glycerol and the time of loading.

Medical Journal of Bakirk?y , 2007,
Abstract: Objective: Evaluation of etiologic factors and examination of clinical features of paralytic strabismus cases. Material and Methods: Cases with paralytic strabismus between January 2003 and February 2006 were evaluated retrospectively. Sixty seven patients were evaluated according to age, sex, etiology, type of paralysis, and clinical improvement. Results: The mean age of 67 patients was 22.92 (3-78) with a male to female ratio of 26/41. Age of 37 cases (55.2%) was below 18 and 30 cases (44.7%) were above 18 years of age. There were trochlear palsy in 45 cases (67.1%), abducens palsy in 11 cases (16.4%), oculomotor palsy in 8 cases (11.9%), oculomotor and trochlear palsy in 1 cases (1.4%), oculomotor and abducens in 1 cases (1.4%), multiple cranial nevre paralysis in 1 cases (1.4%). Etiology was congenital in 32 case (47.7%), idiopathic in 13 case (19.4%), trauma in 12 cases (17.9%), vascular factors were determined in 6 cases (8.9%). Cranial nerve involvement was unilateral in 52 (77.6%) and bilateral in 15 cases (22.3%). Trochlear paralysis and congenital causes were most common seen type of palsy and etiologic factor in cases with ages below 18 years of age and adult group (above 18 year). Conclusion: Trochlear nerve palsy was most common paralysis in childhood and adulthood in our clinic. Abducens and oculomotor nerve paralysis followed sequentially. We thought that further studies must be done with evaluation of ocular and neurological signs in order to find etiologic causes.
