Abstract: Background: Over the last years, increasing attention has been focused on the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Objective: To determine the prevalence of OSA in a group of patients diagnosed with IPF. Materials and Methods: Analytic retrospective study. Data were collected from the medical records of all patients diagnosed with IPF who had polysomnography requested as part of the study protocol in patients with interstitial lung diseases (ILD). Results: 36 patients were studied, 26 of who were male. The mean age was 67.55 ± 6.39 years old. Mean forced vital capacity (FVC) was 2.12 ± 0.76 liters. The mean body mass index (BMI) was 28.78 ± 4.24. The Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS) average was 7.55 ± 5.01 and the mean apnea hypopnea index (AHI) was 12.69 ± 19.40. Of all the patients studied, 17 (47.22%) had OSA with an AHI ≥ 5. Of these, 9 (25%) had AHI ≥ 10. In the group of patients with OSA (n = 17), 9 (52.94%) had mild OSA (AHI between 5 and 15) and 8 (47.05%) moderate to severe OSA (AHI ≥ 15). Conclusions: In our series of 36 patients with IPF we found a prevalence of OSA of 47.22%. We found no correlation between ESS and the BMI with the presence of OSA in these patients, suggesting that these assessments may be less than optimal screening tools for OSA in IPF.
Mora (Buenos Aires) , 2012,
Abstract: barbie también puede estar triste (albertina carri, 2003) and la virgen cabeza (gabriela cabezón cámara, 2009) propose the disruption of a social order of the bodies and open the horizon of a possible reconstitution which represents its utopian moment. the "villa" and the doll's house are its two principal locations. one may be described as a theatrum mundi. the other corresponds to a real urban geography but not confused whit it. the "villa" of la virgen cabeza is founded in the story and in the story it also disappears.

Barbie también puede eStar triste (Albertina Carri, 2003) and La Virgen Cabeza (Gabriela Cabezón Cámara, 2009) propose the disruption of a social order of the bodies and open the horizon of a possible reconstitution which represents its utopian moment. The "villa" and the doll's House are its two principal locations. One may be described as a theatrum mundi. The other corresponds to a real urban geography but not confused whit it. The "villa" of La Virgen Cabeza is founded in the story and in the story it also disappears.

Abstract: summary. traditionally, there is an established trend to establish the strong character of the end (τ?λο?) in aristotelian philosophy, a concept to which another important one is associated, necessity (?ν?γκη). both are closely linked to the concept of physis (φ?σι?), understood as form and matter. the richnees of the biological treatsies of aristotle lies in that they constitute an area of observation of the main concepts of aristotelian philosophy, and beyond being a mere addition to the great works of the philosopher, they enable the analysis of concepts that, in the context of empirical research acquire other tones; an example of this is the interpretation of end and necessity in relation to the living. the purpose of this article is the follow-up of finality and its excedents in the realm of aristotelian biology, because this theme leads us to two other concepts that are more excluded, since the second analitics, from science: casuality (τ?χη) and accident (συμβεβηκ??).
Molina González,Liliana Cecilia;
Estudios de Filosofía , 2012,
Abstract: the vast work of galen of pergamus -who was the physician to the stoic marcus aurelius- includes various treatises of a philosophical nature (especially those in which he analyses the causes of the passions and of the errors of the soul), whose main purpose is to understand human nature at large, and to put forward proper guides for its moral improvement. galen split his exposition of the questions pertaining to the diagnosis and treatment of the passions and the errors of each one's souls, since his main thesis - that the soul has a threefold structure (reason, intense emotions or passions, and desires)- requires this division. according to galen, the treatment of the passions diverges from the treatment of cognitive disorders to which the errors of soul refer; which may be caused by immoderate passions or desires, and false opinions on goods and evils; which in the end mediate in the choice of a measured or, otherwise, immoderate life. the thread linking the treatise on passions and the treatise on the errors of the soul is precisely that false opinions, which increase the violence exerted by our own passions whenever we have neither considered the causes (our beliefs and desires) of our excessive behavior, nor the value judgments with which we are used to judge daily circumstances of our daily life. the power of opinions lies in increasing, precisely, emotions' quantum of force, making them immoderate and indomitable, or moderable.

Abstract: this article is part of the framework of the research project "the look xenophobic. chilean migrants in neuquén. discrimination and prejudice. a current perspective", and presents an analysis of a group of night-shift secondary school students′ views on chileneans in neuquen. their answers reflect an attitude of prejudice against chileans. prejudice is enhanced by the need to establish differences from those who, due to some traits, can be considered "inferior" in the context of the growing impoverishment of middle-class and popular sectors and the fact that the limited social policies and unemployment contribute to kindle it.
Posada González,María Cecilia;
Estudios de Filosofía , 2006,
Abstract: the first philosophers were very conscious of the novelty that they introduced in the way they related to the world, which is, a change in perspective that distanced from the close and the immediate, to approach everything contemplatively. from the predominance that vision had in the greek tongue came terms and metaphors as the blindness of mortal people, which not only illustrate the contrast between the daily way of life and the philosophical one, but which dramatize it as the old anecdote on thales. why, both yesterday and today, is the philosopher laughable for the majority, while, he considers himself object of the envy of the gods?

Abstract: the present work analyses the repercussions of females being incorporated into the uruguayan labour market from 1986 to 1997 in terms of remuneration as perceived by men and women. bergmann’s hypothesis of concentration (1971 and 1974) is looked at, according to which women being concentrated in just a few occupations (due to discrimination) leads to their wages becoming reduced per se. wage differences are then broken down using macpherson and hirsch’s methodology (1995) to identify the part which is discriminatory and that which is justified.
