ABCD. Arquivos Brasileiros de Cirurgia Digestiva (S?o Paulo) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-67202011000100009
Abstract: background: liver transplantation for hepatocellular carcinoma (hcc) can result in a potential cure and greater survival than other less radical techniques. aim: to analyze the survival and recurrence rate in liver transplant recipients with hepatocellular carcinoma and alpha-fetoprotein over 200 ng/ml. method: analysis, in this retrospective study, 90 cirrhotic patients with hepatocellular carcinoma who underwent orthotopic liver transplantation between 1997 and 2009. liver lesions were diagnosed by preoperative doppler ultrasonography, abdominal computerized tomography and alpha-fetoprotein blood level. two groups were studied according to alpha-fetoprotein level over or below 200 ng/ml. the kaplan-meier method was used to study survival rate. the cox regression analysis was performed to study predictive factor to survival. results: it was observed that risk of death was 1% for each 10 units of alpha-fetoprotein over 200 ng/ml and 1% for each mm over 28 mm (tumor size). in this sample average age, gender, presence of recidivism, vascular invasion, incidental tumor, edmondson-steiner grade and milan criteria were similar when the two groups were submitted to multivarite analysis and the survival rate and the size of great nodule had a significant difference between the two groups. the survival rate was better for those patients with alpha-fetoprotein<200 ng/ml. conclusion: patients who had alpha-fetoprotein >200 showed worst survival and size of tumor was a predictive risk factor for mortality but this did not have influence in relationship to tumor recurrence

Acta Cirurgica Brasileira , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-86502001000200003
Abstract: the aim of this study was to describe a method for the induction of experimental secondary biliary fibrosis (sbf). forty-seven wistar rats were submitted to hepatic duct obstruction (ob group) for thirty days without ligature, section or cannulization causing interruption of biliary flow. this technique was carried out by simple traction of the bile duct passing it through the xiphoid appendix. nine rats were submitted to a sham operation for bile duct stricture and seven rats comprised the control group. blood samples were collected for the measurement of total bilirubin (tb), alkaline phosphatase (ap), alanine aminotransferase (alt) and aspartate aminotransferase (ast). liver fragments were removed for morphological study. thirty days after surgery tb, ap, alt and ast levels were significantly increased in the hepatic duct ligation group compared to the sham operated group and the presence of sbf in the ob group was confirmed by morphological study of the liver. there was technical failure in 31.92% cases. the survival was 100% at fifteen days and 82.97% at the end of the experiment. we concluded that this simple surgical technique may be used to study the consequence of bile duct obstruction which could be a reversible process depending on the obstruction time. this technique can be carried out from cholestasis to fibrosis.
EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES IN ROMANIA
MARCEL ROMANESCU,AMELIA GEORGIANA BONCEA,CECILIA IRINA R?BON?U
Annals of the University of Petrosani : Economics , 2008,
Abstract: The European Union (EU) has every reason to be proud of its anti-discrimination legislation, one of the most extensive in the world. In 2000, the European Union adopted two very wide-ranging laws to prohibit discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin, religion or belief, disability, age or sexual orientation in the workplace and, as far as racial and ethnic origin is concerned, in other aspects of daily life. These texts build on the extensive provisions at EU level to promote equality between women and men.
Aplikasi Metode Group Technology dalam Memperbaiki Tata Letak Mesin untuk Meminimalkan Jarak Perpindahan Bahan (Studi Kasus di Perusahaan Mebel Logam)

Jurnal Teknik Mesin , 2007,
Abstract: Material handling process is affected by planning and setting layout facility since cost of material handling can reached 30-90% total production cost. In a metal furniture factory products were made without good setting layout facility. The machines and material were set at empty places. Distances between machines were not set so the traffic would get traffic jam. Unfinished material must wait until the number requirement for handling is reached. The layout setting of machines will be set with Group Technology. The methods used are Rank Order Clustering, Similarity Coefficient and p-median. The result of this method can reduce distance of material handling until 68%.
Social Representations of Medically Assisted Fecundation a Study on the Discursive Construction of “Media Texts”  [PDF]
Amelia Manuti, Giuseppe Mininni
Psychology (PSYCH) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2010.15043
Abstract: The present contribution moves from the theory of social representations (Moscovici, 1961) and focuses attention on the importance of social communication within negotiation processes of shared meanings. Actually, discursive psychology (Potter, & Wetherell, 1987; Billig, 1991) has showed that social representation have a narrative nature since they organize the cognitive schemata that people use to give sense to the world (Lazlo, 1997). In such a frame a crucial role is played by mass media, which do contribute to construct and convey the figurative nucleus of each representation (Mininni, 2004). By adopting this discursive perspective, the present contribution aims at investigating the social debate about assisted fecundation which in Italy has accompanied the campaign for the abrogation of Law 40. The corpus of data is made up of a sample of 46 media-texts collected within the weeks before the referendum. The data have been investigated by adopting diatextual analysis (Mininni, 1992; 2003; 2005).
Vibrations of a One-Dimensional Host-Guest System  [PDF]
Amelia Carolina Sparavigna
Materials Sciences and Applications (MSA) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/msa.2011.25041
Abstract: A simple model shows how it is possible to create a gap in the vibrational spectrum of a one-dimensional lattice. The proposed model is a host-guest chain having, instead of point-like masses connected by spring, massive cages hosting particles inside. We imagine the cage as a rigid box containing a mass linked by a spring to the box inner wall. The presence of guests creates an energy gap in the dispersion of vibrational frequencies. The gap is about the internal resonance of the mass hidden in the cage. The model is proposed to help understanding the macroscopic behaviour of some phononic materials and the properties of materials with microscopic rattling modes.
Measuring the Thermal Diffusivity in a Student Laboratory  [PDF]
Amelia Carolina Sparavigna
Engineering (ENG) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2012.45035
Abstract: The paper describes a method for measuring the thermal diffusivity of materials having a high thermal conductivity. The apparatus is rather simple and low-cost, being therefore suitable in a laboratory for undergraduate students of engineering schools, where several set-ups are often required. A recurrence numerical approach solves the thermal field in the specimen, which is depending on the thermal diffusivity of its material. The numerical method requires the temperature data from two different positions in the specimen, measured by two thermocouples connected to a temperature logger.
An Ancient Rangefinder for Teaching Surveying Methods  [PDF]
Amelia Carolina Sparavigna
Engineering (ENG) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2012.49073
Abstract: Rangefinders are instruments used for ballistics and for surveying in general. Here we propose a discussion of some of them, ranging from the ancient Rome to the modern methods. Using an ancient roman artefact as a model, we can prepare a rangefinder at no cost for teaching surveying methods to students of engineering and military schools.
