Case Reports in Clinical Medicine (CRCM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/crcm.2014.39116
Abstract: Bladder cancer is the most common malignancy of the urinary tract and it affects four times more men than women. The relationship between bladder tumors and Schistosoma haematobium is well known, but only sporadic cases of bladder infection due to Schistosoma mansoni have been reported. Schistosoma mansoni infection causes an endemic disease in Brazil (schistosomiasis) and gastrointestinal disorders are very common, but disease of the urinary tract is atypical. The aim of this study was to describe a case of a patient presenting schistosomiasis (S. mansoni) and urothelial bladder carcinoma. In this case, a 37-year-old man with intermittent painless gross hematuria was investigated. Cystoscopy revealed a small pedunculated lesion in the bladder dome. Transurethral resection revealed urothelial carcinoma of the bladder, low degree, unrepresentative of the muscular layer of the bladder. After 30 days, a new transurethral resection was performed to sample acquisition of the muscular layer on the basis of the scar. Histopathology was negative for malignancy (Tumor Node Metastasis: TNM-T1). During this procedure, there was evidence of dark rounded lesion in the bladder dome. It was excised and the histopathology showed viable eggs of Schistosoma mansoni. The patient was treated orally with oxamniquine and remained in oncological monitoring with cystoscopy quarterly and serial clinical evaluation. This case reveals a rare finding of Schistosoma mansoni in the bladder and urothelial bladder carcinoma coexisting in the same patient.
Organizational Learning of Controllers and Controlled Agencies: Innovations and Challenges in Promoting Accountability in the Recent Brazilian Democracy  [PDF]
Cecília Olivieri, Marco Antonio Carvalho Teixeira, Maria Rita Loureiro, Fernando Abrucio
American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2013.36A006
Abstract: This paper analyzes a case of organizational learning in the Ministry of Social Development and Fight against Hunger. This organizational learning process was generated from demands that were external to the organization and it was possible thanks to the way in which Ministry’s departments interacted with the governmental internal control agency (Office of the Comptroller General), and thanks to the Ministry’s specific conditions, both organizational and contingent. This paper demonstrates that building dialogue in the process of auditing and inspection led to improvement in the control process and also in public policy management. Both the Office of the Comptroller General and the Ministry of Social Development underwent learning processes. Office’s analysts needed to learn the working and implementation logic of a new policy in social development area (the Unified Social Welfare System), and the Ministry employees needed to produce rules and administrative procedures to support the inspection, as well as review concepts and procedures involved in Ministry’s relationship with municipalities.

Melo, Yara Carvalho de;Pereira, Maria Cecília;
Gest?o & Produ??o , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-530X2012000300002
Abstract: the objective of this study was to investigate the automation project management in the automotive industry through a case study in the proje-auto, an automation and industrial maintenance company. firstly, a conceptual model including organizational learning in project management was developed. next, the methodology steps of pmi? applied to automation project management in the company studied were investigated through two case studies: robot manipulator design and prensas project. the case studies were carried out to investigate these projects and the context in which they are inserted in order to compare them with the reference model. after identifying their major problems and differences, a more adequate approach compared to that of the management model was proposed. it is believed that including the learning approach in the context of project management processes can enable companies to reap greater benefits than those derived from the implementation of a single project management methodology.
A inclus?o de catadores em programas de coleta seletiva: da agenda local à nacional
Pereira, Maria Cecília Gomes;Teixeira, Marco Antonio Carvalho;
Cadernos EBAPE.BR , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1679-39512011000300011
Abstract: this article aims to discuss the issue of social and productive inclusion of collectors of recyclable materials, present previously only in local public policy agendas and that has now reached the national governmental agenda. the theoretical discussion is based on kingdon′s (1995) multiple streams theory, highlighting its limitations in the analysis of the phenomenon under study. the methodological procedures used were: bibliographical review, participative observation in events for collectors secondary data collection, spontaneous conversations and semi-structured interviews. we observed that to a certain extent there was a junction of kingdon′s (1995) three streams: a problem gained public recognition, a political environment favorable to the emergence of issues such as this agenda, and a viable alternative to the problem presented itself - the inclusion of collectors in solid waste selective collection programs -, which do not respond completely to the dimensions of the problem. civil society organizations played an essential role in this process. however, the multiple streams model does not conceive of a "bottom-up" agenda setting process, nor does it consider the influence of extra-institutional actors, such as civil society organizations, on the agenda setting process. as such, the model is unable to explain the complex relations between the state and civil society in brazilian reality.

Lima, Juliano de Carvalho;Faveret, Ana Cecília;Grabois, Victor;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2006000300018
Abstract: this article presents the experience with participatory planning in the bonsucesso general hospital in rio de janeiro, brazil, from 2003 to 2004. the participatory and communicative characteristics and the resulting institutional format are identified for guaranteeing the implementation of collective decisions from the planning workshops. the limits of implementation in participatory planning and management proposals are argued from the perspective of change and power relations in these institutions. the results support the notion that projects involving changes in hospitals and failing to take into account the different internal rationalities and power relations end up having reduced potential for implementation.

Revista Brasileira de Enfermagem , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71672004000600022
