Abstract: Mesenteric adenitis consists of an important differential diagnosis of potentially serious diseases such as acute appendicitis, since they manifest themselves with a similar clinical picture. Case report: A 17-year-old male patient presented with periumbilical abdominal pain for 2 days, of abrupt onset and moderate intensity, who gave away with a common analgesic, which progressed to the right iliac fossa (RIF) and increased of intensity. He also reported liquid diarrhea, with several episodes a day, without mucus and/or blood, 38°C fever, anorexia and vomiting. He was hospitalized for investigating a possible diagnostic of Acute Appendicitis. In the exams, it was considered mesenteric adenitis, and antibiotic therapy was prescribed. The patient had complete improvement at the end of treatment. Conclusions: Given its importance as a differential diagnosis of numerous pathologies, as well as controversial before the therapeutic and diagnostic conduct, it is essential to report these cases in order to elucidate the specificities of this disease.

Abstract: Introduction: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) occurrence is uncommon and usually manifested by nonspecific signs and symptoms, which hinders its reasoning as a diagnostic hypothesis. The objective is to report a case of female GIST with curative treatment through video-laparoscopy with partial gastrectomy. Case report: A 61-year-old female patient attended the Luiz Gioseffi Jannuzzi School Hospital (HELGJ) emergency room, with a sudden onset of upper gastrointestinal bleeding with hemodynamic instability. After stabilization, she was admitted for diagnostic investigation, showing sub-epithelial lesion of antrum in upper digestive endoscopy (UDE) and solid-cystic mass in the gastric antrum to computed tomography (CT). The conduct was the video laparoscopy surgical approach with partial gastrectomy. The histopathological and immunohistochemical aspects of the surgical specimen showed a gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) in a gastric antrum of low grade of malignancy, positive e-Kit and mycotic index (50 cga) < 5. Discussion: Compared to the scarce reports in literature, the case described presented typical epidemiology, but the clinical picture was not the most incident. Conclusions: Given the rarity of this pathology cases, it is essential to report these in order to elucidate the specificities and also to discuss diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
Numerical Studies of Disordered Photonic Crystals
G. Guida
PIER , 2003, DOI: 10.2528/PIER02010805
Abstract: Since the first demonstration of a complete photonic band gap by E. Yablonovitch in 1987 [1], photonic band gap materials have attracted a very significant interest in Electromagnetism but also in Solid State Physics. Doped photonic crystals that have a point defect (a local disturbance) have been extensively studied with the emergence of this new area of Physics. They present localized modes in the band gap and triggered many potential applications. Fewer papers have been devoted to strongly disordered photonic crystals that are periodic on the average. These structures are disturbed on the overall feature and the defect corresponding is referred to as extended. Analogue at a first glance to amorphous semiconductors, these materials could present interesting properties. Moreover, manufacture of photonic crystals is still a real challenge for the optical domain and undesirable extended defects can appear leading to a compulsory study of the tolerances of periodicity for such new materials.

Texto & Contexto - Enfermagem , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-07072004000400009
Abstract: this research aims to describe the perspective of professionals inside psychosocial attention centers in rs about psychosocial rehabilitation. eleven semi-structured interviews were performed with professionals at a university level linked to 6 caps from the south region of rs. the results show that psychosocial rehabilitation is seen as a process; the importance of family, participation; interdisciplinarity; the aims of the service; an integrality of actions and the quality of the service; and professional values such as responsibility, ethics, flexibility, dignity, respect for the human being. we concluded that psychosocial rehabilitation is a process in permanent construction-overcoming new and always multiple possibilities of care, as well as the existence of a lack between the new theoretical referential, still incipient, and a multiplicity of actions/practices in course, which overcome the production of a brazilian referential of rehabilitation.

Texto & Contexto - Enfermagem , 2004,
Antenatal physical activity: Investigating the effects on postpartum depression  [PDF]
Jennifer Guida, Swathy Sundaram, Jenn Leiferman
Health (Health) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/health.2012.412188
Abstract: Engaging in regular moderate-intensity physical activity has been demonstrated as a successful treatment modality for both major and minor depression and as effective as pharmacologic treatments. However, less is known about the use of antenatal physical activity as a preventive modality for depression during the perinatal period. The objective of the present study was to determine if there is an association between antenatal physical activity and PPD. A cross-sectional study using the 2007-2008 Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System (PRAMS) data from Colorado and North Carolina (N = 6026) was conducted. PRAMS self-reported data are from a large randomized sample collected by the CDC that assesses maternal demographic, socio-economic, and prepregnancy and perinatal behaviors. Multivariable logistic regression was used to examine the relationship between antenatal sedentary behavior and PPD. Upon adjusting for maternal age, education, race, marital status, parity, stress, smoking, drinking, and prenatal care utilization, women who did not engage in antenatal physical activity were 1.34 times more likely to screen positive for PPD than women who exercised 5 or more days per week [OR 1.34; 95% CI: (1.04, 1.74); p = 0.03]. These findings suggest that not engaging in antenatal exercise may be associated with an increase risk of PPD. Further research is warranted to better understand the effects of antenatal sedentary behavior on PPD and the potential use of physical activity as a preventive modality for PPD.

Invas?o tolteca em Chichén Itzá? Uma nova leitura da quest?o a partir da cultura material das Terras Maias Baixas do Norte
Navarro, Alexandre Guida;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742010000200016
Abstract: this article aims to study one the most controversial questions about mexican archaeology: the toltec invasion on chichén itzá's city. the issue divides the opinion. there is a group of searches that believe that chichén itzá is a city built by toltecs. on the other hands, others searches thinks that chichén itzá is a city purely maya. in this text, we present some archaeological evidences that show the impossibility of the invasion of tula on chichén itzá's urban centre.
