Abstract: In the section west of Bev ko with prevailing platy limestone the fossil microfauna was studied. The association consists of foraminifers, ostracods,conodonts and fish remains. Determined microfauna is characterized by the conodont element Neogondolella polygnathiformis indicating the Carnian stage.

A new herrerasaurid (Dinosauria, Saurischia) from the Upper Triassic Ischigualasto Formation of northwestern Argentina

Abstract: Herrerasauridae comprises a basal clade of dinosaurs best known from the Upper Triassic of Argentina and Brazil, which have yielded remains of Herrerasaurus ischigualastensis and Staurikosaurus pricei, respectively. Systematic opinion regarding the position of Herrerasauridae at the base of Dinosauria has varied. Here we describe a new herrerasaurid, Sanjuansaurus gordilloi gen. n. sp. n., based on a partial skeleton from Carnian-age strata of the the Upper Triassic Ischigualasto Formation of northwestern Argentina. The new taxon is diagnosed by numerous features, including long, band-shaped and posterolaterally oriented transverse process on the posterior cervical vertebrae; neural spines of the sixth to eighth dorsal vertebrae, at least, bearing acute anterior and posterior processes; scapula and coracoid with everted lateral margins of the glenoid; and short pubis (63% of the femoral length). Phylogenetic analysis placed Sanjuansaurus within a monophyletic Herrerasauridae, at the base of Theropoda and including Herrerasaurus and Staurikosaurus. The presence of Sanjuansaurus at the base of the Ischigualasto Formation, along with other dinosaurs such as Herrerasaurus, Eoraptor, Panphagia, and Chromogisaurus suggests that saurischian dinosaurs in southwestern Pangea were already widely diversified by the late Carnian rather than increasing in diversity across the Carnian-Norian boundary.

Abstract: The paper presents holothurian sclerites from the 2nd clastic horizon of the “Raibl Beds” in the Me ica area. Thefauna is dominated by genus Theelia, represented by T. immisorbicula Mostler, T. planorbicula Mostler and T. ex gr.variabilis Zankl in association with species Priscopedatus ploechingeri Mostler. Julian age of the holothurian-bearingbed is defined by conodont apparatus Nicoraella ? budaensis Kozur & Mock.

Abstract: Three clastic marly-shaly horizons occur within the Carnian carbonate rocks near Me ica and rna na Koro kem, Slovenia. The marly-shaly beds directly overlie oolitic and oncoidal limestones. In the lowermost of these clastic horizons, several cephalophod species,including the most common Carnites floridus (Wulfen), were collected. In addition, bivalves, gastropods and sparse vertebrate remains are present.Within the second clastic horizon, there is a distinctive layer characterized by numerous specimens of the bivalve Hoernesia sturi (W hrmann), which was also found, though less commonly, in the lowermost clastic horizon. No fossil macrofauna was found in the third, uppermost clastic horizon.The oolitic and oncoidal layers at the base of all three clastic horizons also contain abundant echinoids and crinoids, as well as rare earliest thecideide brachiopods.The lithostratigraphic associations of the Carnian beds in the Me ica area express the same eustatically-driven cyclicity that is exhibited regionally in the “Raibl group” of the Eastern Alp

Abstract: Beds underlying the Carnian bauxite on the Kopitov gri~ (Slovenia) are by the author’s opinion not Carnian (Cordevolian), but Ladinian age. The considerable stratigraphical gap is presented between Carnian clastic rocks and underlying limestones and dolomites. Bauxite is result of the weathering during the emersion.

Abstract: dinosaur footprints in jurassic and cretaceous rocks are common in brazil, but there are only a few records from triassic. in rio grande do sul state, tridactyl medium size footprints were found in carnian rocks. the material proceeds from predebon outcrop, s?o jo?o do polêsine county, rio grande do sul state, that corresponds to the higher portion of the alemoa member, santa maria formation. the footprints occur in sandstone lenses. the ichnofossils were identified as dinosaur footprints indet. and as grallator? sp. the footprints should correspond to undertracks, since many superficial characteristics are absent, so that the differences between the footprints could correspond to preservational factors. on the basis of morphologic and stratigraphic criteria, the footprints can be attributed to basal dinosaurs. some dinosaurs known for the brazilian triassic, such as staurikosaurus, saturnalia and sacisaurus, could be the producers of these footprints. the occurrences of dinosaur footprints of the predebon outcrop correspond to the oldest ones of brazil, and moreover, they are compatible with the known paleofauna of alemoa-caturrita sequence.
