Efeito de extratos de própolis verde sobre bactérias patogênicas isoladas do leite de vacas com mastite
PINTO, Marcelo Souza;FARIA, José Eurico de;MESSAGE, Dejair;CASSINI, Sérvio Túlio Alves;PEREIRA, Carmen Silva;GIOSO, Marilú Martins;
Brazilian Journal of Veterinary Research and Animal Science , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-95962001000600006
Abstract: in vitro, the sensitivity to different propolis extracts, at a concentration of 100 mg/ml, of staphylococcus aureus, staphylococcus sp. coagulase negative, streptococcus agalactiae and bacteria of the coliform group, isolated from the milk of cows with mastitis, was evaluated using the technique of an agar disk diffusion with a medium doublelayer. the results showed that the commercial propolis, the ethanolic extract, and, in a minor proportion, the methanolic extract inhibited the growth of the gram positive bacteria, staphylococcus aureus, staphylococcus sp. coagulase negative and streptococcus agalactiae. the extracts obtained through water, etila acetate and chloroform did not inhibit any bacterial strains, nor did the pure ethanol and methanol vehicles that were utilized as controls. the gram negative bacterium tested, from the coliform group, did not show sensitivity to any extract. bacterial strains of the same species collected from different sources presented significant differences in sensitivity to the extracts (p < 0.05). in the streptococcus agalactiae samples, the diameters of the zone of inhibition around the disks were bigger than those observed for samples of staphylococcus aureus and staphylococcus sp. coagulase negative. the results of this experiment stimulate the continuation of studies on the use of propolis extracts, by means of using the appropriate vehicles for the treatment of bovine mastitis.

Atri??o dental em Didelphis albiventris e D. marsupialis (Marsupialia, Didelphimorphia, Didelphidae) do Sul do Brasil

Ciência Rural , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84782004000400025
Abstract: this work deals with the study of dental wear down (atrittion and/or abrasion) in 168 specimens of didelphis albiventris and d. marsupialis from southern brazil. wear down was very important, with high frequency of tertiary dentine and exposition of the pulp cavity/radicular canal, due to the association of fractures and wear down. fractures predispose wear down which, on the other side, favors fractures. the degree of attrition increased with age. the order of growing frequency of tertiary dentin in poscanines was: first, second and third molars, third and second premolars, and finally fourth molar. differently from others omnivorous in didelphis tooth wear down seems rather related to fractures due to food (followed by attrition) than to teeth contact. contrary to literature, tribosphenic molars seems not to be "ideals" for such omnivorous diet, as is evident from the high frequency of wear down, fractures and teeth cavities exposition.
La Economía Política y las Motivaciones de Participación Socio-Política de Jóvenes Chilenos: Una Interpretación de los Hallazgos de Martínez, Silva y Hernández (2010)
Silva,Eduardo; Silva,Carmen;
Psykhe (Santiago) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22282010000200005
Abstract: the article by martínez, silva, and hernández (in this issue) argues that chilean youth have disengaged from participation in conventional socio-political institutions because they believe that the sociopolitical system does not validate the persons, violates their rights, is highly inequitable, and excludes them from having a real voice in public decision-making. this perception clashes with their values of fraternity and a just and dignified development for everyone. this essay examines if these beliefs have a real basis in the structure and logic of the economic and political model they criticize. this issue is analyzed from a political economy perspective, built on the assumption that economic and political structures determine social subjects, their interests, and their relative power. a direct association was found between the logic of chile's political-economic model and the feelings of exclusion that the interviewees expressed.

Abstract: the development of the dentistry was delayed in the preventive internal in wild animals. some international papers regarding wild animal dentistry already had been carried through with animals originary from captivity and free life of some species of diverse geographic distributions, but not specific to the great neotropical felines (panthera onca and puma concolor). it was the aim of this paper to survey the prevalence of maloclusion in neotropical felines in the institutions visited in the state of s?o paulo. for the study we used a sample of 42 jaguars (panthera onca) and 36 pumas (puma concolor), totalizing seventy and eight 78 animals , proceeding from 18 institutions of such species in captivity in the state of s?o paulo. all animals had been examined, when it was observed if the occlusion was in accordance with the normal for the species. the teeth had been identified one by one, examined directly by means of dental explorer. the maloclusion was present in 47.61% (20 cases) in panthera onca and two individuals of puma concolor (5.55.00%). the animals with maloclusions apparently did not have problems of food apprehension or chewing ability, even though they presented in the region of teeth with more reduced interproximal space, thus plaque the lack of removal of this plaque can provoke oral problems.
