Open Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OJOG) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ojog.2011.13016
Abstract: We report a laboratory confirmed case of vertical transmission of dengue in a mother-child pair in the eastern part of Puerto Rico. The clinical course of the pregnant female suggested a GBS infection, but laboratory tests confirmed it was dengue infection, one week after delivery. The male infant was healthy at birth, but one week after birth developed clinical complications related to vertical transmission of dengue. This report targets physicians in dengue endemic countries like Puerto Rico to be aware of the possibility of vertical transmission of dengue in symptomatic pregnant patients, especially around the time of delivery.
La insistente práctica campesina
Carmen Cecilia Rivera

Inclusion bodies induced by bean rugose mosaic virus seen under light microscopy
Rivera,Carmen; Moreira Carmona,Lisela;
Revista de Biología Tropical , 2000,
Abstract: two types of inclusion bodies were consistently observed under light microscopy in bean (phaseolus vulgaris) leaf tissue infected with bean rugose mosaic virus (brmv), a species of the genus comovirus, family comoviridae. one type consisted of vacuolated inclusions found mainly in the cytoplasm of epidermal cells. the other type consisted of abundant crystalloid inclusions of different sizes and shapes found consistently in glandular hairs, guard cells, phloem tissue, xylem elements and occasionally in epidermal and mesophyll tissues. the two types of inclusion bodies stained with azure a and luxol brilliant green bl-calcomine orange 2rs (o-g), and were similar to those seen to be caused by other species of comoviruses.
La base de datos. Importancia y aplicación en educación.
Ma. del Carmen Gil Rivera
Perfiles educativos , 1994,

Confirmation of Xylella fastidiosa infecting grapes Vitis vinifera in Costa Rica
Aguilar, Estela;Moreira, Lisela;Rivera, Carmen;
Tropical Plant Pathology , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1982-56762008000600007
Abstract: in 2003, symptoms of pierce disease (pd) were observed in two vineyards established in two different localities in san jose province (santa ana and la uruca) and in la garita, alajuela province. twenty four symptomatic plants (15 from santa ana, five from la uruca and four from la garita) were analyzed by das-elisa using antibodies against xylella fastidiosa. sixteen plants (nine from santa ana, five from la uruca, and two from la garita) were positives for the bacterium. isolation attempts were made from petioles of these plants, and seven isolates were obtained in liquid pw. aliquots of liquid media were inoculated on solid pw. ten days after inoculation, circular and convex colonies, with entire margin, smooth and opalescent, of 0.5-1mm in diameter were observed. from each isolate three colonies were selected and considered as different clones. every clone was analyzed by das-elisa with positive results. clones were gram negative, catalase positive and oxidase negative. the bacteria were rod shaped, and showed a typically rippled cell wall. dna of each clone was extracted and used as template in pcr with primers 272-1/272-2 and rst31/rst33; products of 500pb and 733pb were obtained, respectively. these results confirmed the presence of x. fastidiosa causing pd in grapevine plants in different vineyards in costa rica.
Gutiérrez Rivera,Lirio del Carmen;
Universitas Humanística , 2007,
Abstract: all illnesses can be interpreted. in the case of hiv/aids, experience and interpretation are intercepted by meanings that recluse, insulate and morally expose patients and their social networks. volunteers stand out in these networks, because they are the only ones that continue to have contact with patients. in many cases, they are stigmatized. this article is about the experience of female volunteers with people infected with hiv/aids. the phenomenological experience allows studying their perceptions, verifications and modifications of the disease. the results show the following: first, hiv/aids is an opportunity to thank a past event; second, it is an opportunity to construct, through altruism, a space of opportunity for them and their patients; third, hiv/aids shows social shortages. although this experience does not construct political identities or legal discourse, it confronts and inverts negative perceptions of the disease through actions of care whose essential component is love, altruism and brotherhood.
