Abstract: the "course on breastfeeding counseling", elaborated and implemented by the united nation's children's emergency fund - unicef in partnership with the world health organization - who, represents one of the most important initiatives towards the valorization of women as breastfeeding agents. with a view to understanding and facilitating the application of the nonverbal communication skills this course intends to develop among professionals, this study aims to organize the theoretical frameworks that will support the teaching of listening and learning skills -1 - "use of non verbal communication", considering the concepts of human communication found in different authors. we found out that the skills of the course are centered in techniques only directed at the professional's attitudes. however, it is necessary to pay attention to women's nonverbal signs, as they reflect their emotions. these signs can indicate the difficulties women are facing, their interpretations regarding the interaction elements in their context and, often, they are indicative of how they will direct the breastfeeding process.

Abstract: this study focuses on the experience of families in the kangaroo mother method (km) and aims to understand the functioning of the family dynamics and to apprehend the family transformations as a result of their experience in the method. the study used symbolic interactionism as a theoretical and grounded theory as a methodological reference framework. data revealed the following phenomena: having an unexpected evolution and outcome of pregnancy, which is a phase in which the parents go through a pregnancy and suffer due to its premature interruption; coping with the prematurity of the child, in which the parents get into the world of prematurity and face the need to act for the child's survival; and living with the decision and the experience together with the child, which reveals the possibility of staying in hospital in the km or not. these phenomena led to the central category: weighing the risks and benefits between staying with the child in the kangaroo method or with the family.

Abstract: this paper aims to analyze the work process at a university hospital neonatal icu in cuiabá-mt. the data were collected through participant observation and documents. the results showed that concerning collective work, the main aim is diagnosis and therapy, with the medical act as its central nucleus, since this professional detains the work rationality. situations of complementarity and interdependence were observed in the team's work, with moments of negotiation among nursing agents and physicians. the technological work organization at the neonatal icu still shows in its daily life the images of a routine and technical work, marked by the preterm weak body appropriation, which characterizes the biologist and cure model of care.

Revista Latino-Americana de Enfermagem , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-11692004000400004
Abstract: this study aimed to describe the care and difficulties mothers face when breastfeeding their premature babies at a neonatal intensive care unit (icu). therefore, a qualitative approach was adopted. data were obtained through structured interviews, which were recorded with five mothers of premature babies under 2,000g who were assisted at the neonatal icu in cuiabá-mt, brazil. the results revealed five subthemes: maintaining milk production by milking, facing discomfort during the stay at the neonatal icu, living with medical food procedures for premature babies, facing the fragility of the premature baby and the neonatal icu environment and needing logistic support for breastfeeding. a lack of systematic interventions was observed to stimulate breastfeeding while mothers and their premature babies are in hospital. hospital professionals need to be trained and intervention protocols have to be implanted, in view of the maternal experiences and needs and the articulation between intrahospital and interinstitutional actions.
