Carlos R. Torres-Navarrete
Open Journal of Marine Science (OJMS) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ojms.2016.63033
Abstract: A series of numerical experiments from a barotropic configuration of the General Curvilinear Ocean Model (GCOM) was conducted to analyze the response to infragravity (IG) waves of the Port of Ensenada, located within Bahia de Todos Santos (BTS), west coast of Mexico. Experiments with forcing frequencies f = 50?1 min?1, f = 30?1 min?1, f = 25?1 min?1 and f = 16.66?1 min?1 showed the expected increase of energy at the corresponding forcing frequency band and also the appearance of secondary peaks of energy at frequency bands f = 8.33?1 min?1 and f = 4.16?1 min?1 which were identified as modes f1 and f2; being the band at f = 16.66?1 min?1 the zeroth f0 mode. Maximum peak of spectral energy from the numerical experiments was found at frequency band f0 = 16.66?1 min?1 which agreed with the estimated maximum value of the amplification factor and with the T0 mode of oscillation of the port. Distribution of amplitudes inside PE for modes f0, f1 and f2 were also presented. Mode f0 represents a quarter-wave oscillation with amplitudes of the same sign; mode f1 has two nodal lines and mode f2 presents and additional one. Corresponding harbor currents were also calculated, they were in the range 20 - 160 cm?s?1. Finally, in order to elucidate the source of the external signals found in the spectral analysis of this study, the natural oscillation modes of the BTS were estimated. Although more studies are needed, BTS oscillation mode T2 = 16.82 min, was identified as the external forcing that excites larger oscillations within the port.
Modelling Three-Dimensional Winds on a NW Pacific Region of Mexico Using Boundary-Fitted Grids  [PDF]
Carlos R. Torres-Navarrete
Open Journal of Marine Science (OJMS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojms.2017.71009
Abstract: In this study, the momentum equations describing an atmospheric flow over a NW Pacific region of Mexico are solved numerically. In order to capture the complex flow-topography interactions with detail, a combination of a numerical wind model in full 3D curvilinear coordinates, along with a high resolution boundary-fitted grid is used. Boundary conditions were obtained from ten years (2002-2012) of measured offshore wind data. Prevailing winds from April to September during that period of observations were selected for the simulations. For the cases analyzed, it was found that at the points of the study region (PSS, PSM, PM), wind speed increased about 10% to 20% of its offshore values, while inland they decreased about 86% to 96%. This spatial behavior agreed very well with the observed local winds. A coastal jet (CJ), 35 km long with speeds about 1.5 - 2 m/s, emanating from PSS was found for NNW winds. Modeled winds were also used to compute wind stresses, wind stress curl, and CUI fields. Wind stress values agreed very well to those reported in the literature. High values of wind stress curl, and CUI were found at the lee of the points (PSS, PSM, PM). Indirect estimations of sea surface currents were about 15 - 20 cm/s offshore and 5 - 10 cm/s at the coast.
Torres Alcaraz, Carlos;
Diánoia , 2009,
Abstract: this essay examines the manner in which hilbert worked out his first formalism in his investigations on the foundations of geometry. to elucidate these views, hilbert's position is compared with that of kant, who set forth a constructive notion of "geometrical objects" which endured in the philosophy of mathematics for a long time. in the first part, the author explores the way in which kant explains the notion of proof in classical geometry and clarifies how his account relates to his theory of schematism. next, the conception underlying hilbert's grundlagen der geometrie is presented and an attempt is made to recreate the path he followed until he reached his point of view. in particular this article explores the role that projective geometry and the principle of duality played in his reflections. finally, kant's ideas are contrasted with those of hilbert in his first formalism, pointing toward the view that the latter constitutes a necessary generalization of kant's mathematical philosophy.
Producción in vitro de pectinasas por Colletotrichum acutatum

Acta Agronómica , 2010,
Abstract: the fungi of gender colletotrichum are producers of phytotoxic substances of low molecular weight and enzymes, which can to play crucial roles in their pathogenic relations with many commercial crops. this study was realized for to determine the type of the substances produced by c. acutatum in the czapeck-dox?s, fries?s and ms?s culture medium, substances that have roles in the pathogenic relations with tamarillo (solanum betaceae). the procedures and results of the evaluation allowed us to discard that phytotoxic activity on tamarillo fruits inoculated with extracts to be low molecular weight metabolites. utilizing the cup-plate asay (dingle et al., 1953), we to establish what in vitro, c. acutatum produced enzymes like pectinases (poligalacturonases) and pectyn lyases, whose action can to be implied in the antracnosis of tamarillo. besides, the production of pectinases was infl uenced by ph?s culture medium.

Abstract: several knowledege based systems have been produced in the last decade, both in the industry and in research institutes. some of these applications have been used in practical situations, but most of them have not been developed beyond the prototype stage. such systems are usually desingned through an informal and empiric process which involves the implementation of a simple prototype of the system in the early phases of knowledge acquisition. this approach has beem widely criticized because it can make both the re-implementation and updating of knowledege bases cubersome, and seriously distort the way knowledge is represented. for this reason, a number of more formal methodologies for developing knowledge based systems have been proposed in recent years. although such methodologies have provided some useful advice, none of them has yet proved to be applicable as whole in a wide range of situations. the first part of this paper consists of a general review of some of the existing formal methodologies. in the second part, the approach used for developing a knowledge based system for planning house building projects, named house planner, is discussed.

Abstract: citizenship presents some dilemmas in a democratic, diverse and multicultural society that we can think about: citizenship theories have been advanced in the tradition of occidental political theory by white heterosexual men that identified a homogenised citizenship through a systematic process of exclusion, in this way bypassing inclusion process in political organization. the multifaceted missions that multiculturalism must confront and the concrete political experience of eighties and nineties have implied that their different partisans have been unable to approach the need for a theory of multicultural citizenship to make advance the democratic goals in the context of theories of democracy. public education must facilitate education and learning for children, young people and adults. that constitutes another practical motive for us to periodically review theoretical relationships between state, education, citizenship, democracy and multiculturalism.

Signo y Pensamiento , 2007,
Abstract: this paper gathers the main thoughts around an investigation, which goal was to determine the conditions for constructing web narratives related with local topics shaped like hypermedia. the analysis was made throughout a study of case which includes an academic exercise of creation involving students of sociology from nacional university and those students of industrial design from universidad javeriana, taking the digital design workshop coordinated by adac, an architecture and design faculty unit of javeriana university. the results of this analysis suggests what it is lacking for being done and the challenges that different actors, such as the academy, have in order to use digital technologies in an effective way, as part of their responsibility for responding to the challenges that the digital era imposes.
Torres,Carlos Alberto;
Revista Lusófona de Educa??o , 2005,
Abstract: this article discusses the implications of expert knowledge in the educational reforms of the third world countries. it focuses on the orientations adopted by the world bank, which the author analyses critically and mercilessly. torres analyses the possibilities of building a new pattern of cooperation and technical assistance which wouldn?t be subject to the rules of ideological positivism and of the instrumental rationality, due to the fact that the hegemony in international organizations of intergovernmental nature still persists.

Pati?o Torres Carlos
