Abstract: despite the absence of current official reports showing the number of cattle infected by rabies, it is estimated that nearly 30,000 bovines are lost each year in brazil. in order to minimize the important economic losses, control of the disease is achieved by eliminating bat colonies and by herd vaccination. in this study, we compare the antibody response in cattle elicited by vaccination with an attenuated era vaccine (aevac) and an inactivated-adjuvanted pv (ipvvac) vaccine. the antibody titers were appraised by cell-culture neutralization test and elisa, and the percentage of seropositivity was ascertained for a period of 180 days. ipvvac elicited complete seropositivity rates from day 30 to day 150, and even on day 180, 87% of the sera showed virus-neutralizing antibody titers (vna) higher than 0.5iu/ml. there were no significant differences between the vna titers and seropositivity rates obtained with ipvvac in the two methods tested. aevac, however, elicited significantly lower titers than those observed in the group receiving inactivated vaccine. in addition, the profiles of antirabies igg antibodies, evaluated by elisa, and vna, appraised by cell-culture neutralization test, were slightly different, when both vaccines were compared.
Considerations for Erythema Nodosum Leprosum, with Emphasis on Its Oral Manifestations  [PDF]
Antonio Carlos Vinhas, Roberto Meyer Nascimento
Advances in Infectious Diseases (AID) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/aid.2013.31004

Leprosy is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium leprae, transmitted from person to person through contact among susceptible untreated patients. It presents a broad clinical spectrum which is related to the host’s ability to mount a specific immune response. The lesions caused by the proliferation of Mycobacterium leprae (M. leprae) were significantly reduced in recent years with the early detection of new cases. Because they are less evident and/or study, maxillofacial injuries and the oral mucosa may reveal important details about the transmissibility and immunopathogenesis of leprosy. This article was based on a literature to verify an interrelation between oral manifestations in virchowian patients and immuno-pathological factors. Association between the infection of oral mucosa and some pathological findings as well as the participation of the local immune response in protection against the disease are research topics still not fully exploited.

PPRA/PCMSO: auditoria, inspe??o do trabalho e controle social
Miranda, Carlos Roberto;Dias, Carlos Roberto;
Cadernos de Saúde Pública , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-311X2004000100039
Abstract: the authors analyzed environmental risk prevention programs and occupational health monitoring programs implemented by 30 companies from various industrial sectors, each with more than 100 employees, in salvador, bahia, brazil. observed inconsistencies were studied according to occupational risk, considering the different stages of development in the programs. the study suggested low technical quality in these programs, revealing the need to increase the range of government inspection and to stimulate worker and trade union participation in such programs. the development and improvement of inspection procedures, instruments, and protocols were also considered fundamentally important for health and safety in the workplace.

Azzoni,Carlos Roberto;
EURE (Santiago) , 1999, DOI: 10.4067/S0250-71611999007600005
Abstract: the paper discusses aspects of the urban size of s?o paulo city and its metropolitan area. the first section deals with population growth and its dimensions, considering both the absolute values and its dynamic aspects. since population moves for economic reasons, although not exclusively, the attractiveness of the city for business is considered, through the use of comparative profitability indicators. the third section presents comparative indicators for the quality of life, including crime, congestion, pollution etc. the joint analysis of these indicators with both population and business attractiveness indicators poses important issues for the future of the city. this is dealt with in the final section of the paper, in which aspects of financing public infrastructure are also discussed

Abstract: the peiropolis paleontological site (late cretaceous, maastrichtian) in minas gerais state, brazil yielded an important assemblage of fossil vertebrates. the typical occurrence of south american widespread taxa in peiropolis is important for correlation between the brazilian bauru basin and argentinean late cretaceous basins. the fishes, turtles, anuran, crocodilians and dinosaurs known from peiropolis (marilia formation) resemble the patagonian latest late cretaceous vertebrate faunas but lacks ornithischian dinosaurs.

A desoficializa??o do ensino no Brasil: a Reforma Rivadávia
Cury, Carlos Roberto Jamil;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302009000300005
Abstract: the rivadávia reform was declared in 1911 by the ministry of justice rivadávia corrêa and former president hermes da fonseca, both of then positivism followers. between 1911 and 1915, the reform aimed the end of the education official status. following a possible interpretation of 1891 constitution text, the government settles down that secondary and superior institutions would loose their official standing and would become independent autonomic entities, with freedom to officially validate certificates and degrees. free learning would be the best method to avoid poor teaching, bad facilities and uncontrolled degree emissions. a superior council of teaching was created to be in charge of the transition between the former situation and the next context.
A Educa??o Básica no Brasil
Cury, Carlos Roberto Jamil;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302002008000010
Abstract: since the 1988 constitution, and more specifically during the 8 last years, basic education in brazil has undergone great changes. analyzing it implies considering such given preliminaries as the federative pact, social inequities, the international links and the very notion of basic education so that the assessment, focalization, decentralization, deregulation and financing policies can be contextualized. these changes manifest a strong focalization on primary education at legal age. such is not the case with other steps, as important as primary education.
Estado e políticas de financiamento em educa??o
Cury, Carlos Roberto Jamil;
Educa??o & Sociedade , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-73302007000300010
Abstract: this paper seeks to demonstrate that the current binding way of funding basic education through the fundo de manuten??o e desenvolvimento da educa??o básica e valoriza??o dos profissionais da educa??o (fund for the maintenance and development of basic education - fundeb) originates from the intertwining of three aspects or links that have emerged along the history of brazilian education. these links, as for them, imply a social conception of the state more influenced by liberalism. such links govern the impact of the liberal policies on school education.
