Uma atualiza??o da lista de Cladocera Cladocera (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) do Estado de Pernambuco, Brasil
Soares, Carlos Eduardo Aguiar;Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes Maria Abdu;
Biota Neotropica , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032011000200038
Abstract: the present study aimed to identify the cladocera species present in 15 samples of zooplankton, taken occasionally between 1981 and 2001, from the counties of recife, jaboat?o dos guararapes, paulista e escada (state of pernambuco, brazil). in total, 32 species were reported; 10 of them represent first records, which increased to 51 the number of species known to occur in pernambuco state. the highest cladoceran species richness was observed in water bodies where macrophytes were more abundant and with more samples available.
Morphological abnormalities in the cladoceran Ilyocryptus spinifer (Apipucos Reservoir, Pernambuco State, Brazil)
Elmoor-Loureiro, L. M. A.;
Brazilian Journal of Biology , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-69842004000100007
Abstract: in a sample taken from apipucos reservoir (recife, pe, brazil) for taxonomic study, a high percentage (40%) was found of cladoceran ilyocryptus spinifer individuals with morphological abnormalities on their postabdomen. there was not a fixed pattern of the malformations, which varied in gravity, and could affect the postanal spines or terminal claws. the postabdominal abnormalities are described and compared to the ones described in the literature. the hypothesis of the morphological abnormalities being induced by an occasional environmental toxicant is discussed.
Ciclomorfose em Bosmina (Crustacea, Cladocera) no Lago Paranoá, Brasília
Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes M. A.;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 1989, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81751989000100006
Abstract: in order to verify the existence of seasonal variations in morphology of bosmina longirostris and bosmina hagmanni, samples were taken from paranoá lake (brasília, df) during 1983. body length and breadth, antennule, mucro and eye diameter were measured. alometry rates were also calculated. it was verified that throughout the year both bosmina species presented variation involving the five measures. the measures, except the antennule and mucro of b. longirostris, depend, at least partially, on the size of the individual and, therefore, on the age structure of the population. the antennule and mucro variations of b. hagmanni were strongly related to alometry rates. for b. longirostris the antennule and mucro variations appeared to be related to phenomena in an embryonic phase.
Occurrence of Kurzia polyspina Hudec (Crustacea, Anomopoda, Chydoridae) in Brazil
Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes M. A.;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752002000100027
Abstract: the cladoceran kurzia polyspina hudec, 2000 (anomopoda, chydoridae) was found associated with eichhornia kunth, 1843 (pontederiaceae) roots in paranoá lake, brasília. it represents the first record of this species in brazil and in the southern hemisphere. comments on kurzia dybowski & grochowski, 1894 south american records are included.
Ocorrência de Scapholeberis armata freyi Dumont & Pensaert (Crustácea, Anomopoda, Daphniidae) no estado de S?o Paulo, Brasil
Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes M.A.;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752000000100026
Abstract: for the first time, scapholeberis armata freyi dumont & pensaert, 1983 is registered in s?o paulo state. the previously suggested occurrence of this species in brazil is confirmed.
Phytophilous cladocerans (Crustacea, Anomopoda and Ctenopoda) from Paran? River Valley, Goiás, Brazil
Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes M. A.;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752007000200012
Abstract: a rapid assessment survey identified 39 phytophilous cladocerans species from littoral zones of rivers, permanent and temporary lagoons, and swamps of the paran? river valley, goiás, brazil, 22 are registered for the first time in central brazil. aspects of the taxonomy of some of these species are discussed. cluster analysis (upgma) revealed two phytophilous cladoceran assemblages, characterized by higher or lower richness and relative abundance of species of the families daphniidae and moinidae (filter feeders), in comparison with the dominant families chydoridae and macrothricidae (scraper feeders).
A cladistic analysis of the genera of Macrothricidae Norman & Brady (Crustacea, Cladocera, Radopoda)
Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes M. A.;
Revista Brasileira de Zoologia , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-81752005000300034
Abstract: a cladistic analysis of the genera of the macrothricidae (crustacea, cladocera, radopoda) was performed based on 36 morphological characters, and including 15 terminal taxa (three as outgroups). the single tree obtained from this analysis supported the monophyly of macrothricidae and macrothricinae. the group called as "non-macrothricinae" was indicated as paraphyletic. neothricidae was also not supported.
Cladóceros fitófilos (Crustacea, Branchiopoda) do Parque Nacional das Emas, estado de Goiás
Sousa, Francisco Diogo Rocha;Elmoor-Loureiro, Lourdes Maria Abdu;
Biota Neotropica , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-06032008000100019
Abstract: this paper presents a preliminary inventory of the phytophylous cladocerans from the parque nacional das emas. eleven qualitative samples were taken from different sites (lagoon, vereda, and wet campo), from 2000 to 2006. eighteen species, belonging to typically non-planktonic families, were identified; the most specious family was the chydoridae. all species are recorded for the first time in southwest region of goiás.

Acta Limnologica Brasiliensia , 2012,
Abstract: AIM: This study aimed provides a checklist of cladocerans and also an evaluation of richness and species composition in the Federal District, Brazil. METHODS: Checklist of cladocerans was obtained evaluating data from the literature, from taxonomic collection (Elmoor-Loureiro's collection) and from fauna surveys conducted over more than three decades in different types of aquatic environments. RESULTS: The 57 water bodies studied showed 56 species, of which 14 are new records. The number of species contained in the list displayed corresponds to 85% of what was expected for richness estimators. The highest number of species was observed in the lentic water bodies (52), which also presented the specific composition of fauna (R = 0.110; p = 0.016), possibly because there were samples taken among the aquatic vegetation. According to our understanding, some species may be subject to local extinctions because they inhabit water bodies located exclusively in urban areas, which can lead to a decline in richness. CONCLUSION: Thus, the results of this study can assist in monitoring aquatic environments and in selection of new areas for surveys of cladocerans in the Federal District.
New cladoceran records from Lake Paranoá, Central Brazil
Elmoor-Loureiro, L. M. A.;Mendon?a-Galv?o, L.;Padovesi-Fonseca, C.;
Brazilian Journal of Biology , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-69842004000300006
Abstract: the zooplanktonic community of lake paranoá has been studied for more than thirty years. until 1998, when it was considered eutrophic, only three cladoceran species were known from the reservoir. since 1999, when lake paranoá underwent intentional flushing, definite changes in species diversity and composition were identified. at the same time, exploratory studies on littoral cladoceran species were being done. the present study aims to provide additional information on the cladoceran species composition of lake paranoá. seven new species records are presented, four of them also representing the first record from the federal district (brasília). the population previously considered as belonging to bosmina longirostris was reconsidered and re-identified as bosmina freyi. figures and comments on species taxonomy and distribution are also provided.
