Pró-Fono Revista de Atualiza??o Científica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-56872010000300024
Abstract: background: acoustic vocal characteristics of young male adults. aim: to characterize the acoustic measurements of the glottal source of young male adults with normal voices and larynx and to compare these results to the standard measurements proposed by the software used for this assessment. method: 25 young male individuals (20 to 40 years), who presented normal voices and larynx, were selected. all subjects had the prolonged vowel [a] emission analyzed by the multi dimensional voice program advanced (mdvpa). the lilliefords test, with a significance level of 5%, was used to verify the normal distribution of the results of each measurement. the parameters with normal distribution had their means compared to the standard measurements proposed by the program using the t test (significance level of 5%). results: the group was characterized by 18 means of acoustic measurements. measurements of frequency disturbance and amplitude were the ones that most differed from the standard measurements, presenting higher values. approximately half of the measurements presented normal distribution. conclusions: the measurements of jitter and shimmer of young male adults with normal voices and larynx were high. measurements of fundamental frequency, noise and instability remained within the expected values. approximately half of the measurements presented normal distribution prevailing those of jitter and shimmer, indicating that these measurements can be used as a reference.

Cielo, Carla Aparecida;Cappellari, Viviane Michele;
Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992008000400011
Abstract: past studies on the maximum phonation time (mpt) in children have shown different results in duration. this factor may reflect the neuromuscular and aerodynamic control of phonation in patients; such control might be used as an indicator of other evaluation methods on a qualitative and quantitative basis. aim: to verify measures of mpt and voice acoustic characteristics in 23 children aged four to six year and eight months. method: the sampling process comprised a questionnaire that was sent to parents, followed by auditory screening and a voice perceptive-auditory assessment based on the r.a.s.a.t. scale. data collection included the mpt. study: a prospective and cross-sectional study. results: the mpt was 7.42s, 6.35s and 7.19s; as age increased, the mpt also increase significantly; the s/z relation at all ages was close to one. conclusions: the results mostly agree with the medical literature.mpt values, however, were higher than in other brazilian studies. it may be concluded that the ages that were analyzed are going through neuromuscular maturation; lack of structural maturity and neuromuscular control was more evident in chidlren aged four years.
Aspectos fisiológicos e clínicos da técnica fonoterapêutica de fona??o reversa
Finger, Leila Susana;Cielo, Carla Aparecida;
Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992007000200020
Abstract: reverse phonation is the voice production during inspiration, accomplished spontaneously in situations such as when a person sighs. aim: to do a literature review, describing discoveries related to the use of the reverse phonation in the clinical practice, the anatomy and physiology of its production and its effects in vocal treatments; and moreover, indications and problems of the technique for speech disorders treatment and voice enhancement. results: there were reports of significant changes in vocal treatment during with the use of reverse phonation: ventricular distention, ventricular folds separation, increase in the fundamental frequency, mucous wave inverse movement; and it also facilitates the dynamic study of the larynx when associated with endoscopy, making it possible to have a better definition of lesion localization in vocal folds superficial lamina propria layers. conclusion: there are few studies describing larynx behavior during reverse phonation and, for this technique to be used in a more precise and objective way, more studies are necessary in order to prove its effectiveness in practical matters.

Cappellari, Viviane Michele;Cielo, Carla Aparecida;
Revista Brasileira de Otorrinolaringologia , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-72992008000200018
Abstract: evaluation is the first step for any treatment. therefore, normal parameters are the bases for proper evaluation. aim: verify measures and vocal acoustic characteristics of 23 pre-school aged children of both genders, aged four to six years and eight months. methods: the sampling process comprised a questionnaire -that was sent to parents, auditory screening and vocal-perception auditory assessment, based on the r.a.s.a.t. scale. acoustic analysis was carried out through the multi dimensional voice program. study: prospective and cross-sectional. results: the noise-harmonic ratio (nhr) and frequency variation (vf0) of the total sample was higher than what was found for five and six-year-olds. as age increased, nhr values decreased. as the total mean of amplitude perturbation quotient (apq) increased, vf0, variation of amplitude (vam) soft phonation index (spi) and nhr also increased; the same occurred between mean total nhr and vf0. as the total means of pitch perturbation quotient (ppq) and voice turbulence index (vti) increased, spi mean value decreased. conclusions: the results of the acoustic parameters at the age of four years seem to show an immaturity of the structures and lack of neuro-muscular control at that age and the maturation process onset happens near five and six years old.
