Computer Tomography and Ultrasonography Image Registration Based on the Cooperation of GPU and CPU  [PDF]

Abstract:

Image registration is wildly used in the biomedical image, but there are too many textures and noises in the biomedical image to get a precise image registration. In order to get the excellent registration performance, it needs more complex image processing, and it will spend expensive computation cost. For the real time issue, this paper proposes edge gradient direction image registration applied to Computer Tomography(CT) image and Ultrasonography (US) image based on the cooperation of Graphic Processor Unit (GPU) and Central Processor Unit (CPU). GPU can significantly reduce the computation time. First, the CT image slice is extracted from the CT volume by the region growing and the interpolation algorithm. Secondly, the image pre-processing is employed to reduce the image noises and enhance the image features. There are two kinds of the image pre-processing algorithms invoked in this paper: 1) median filtering and 2) anisotropic diffusion. Last but not least, the image edge gradient information is obtained by Canny operator, and the similarity measurement based on gradient direction is employed to evaluate the similarity between the CT and the US images. The experimental results show that the proposed architecture can distinctively improve the efficiency and are more suitably applied to the real world.

Abstract:

The detection of hydrophobicity is an important way to evaluate the performance of composite insulators, which is helpful to the safe operation of composite insulators. Image processing technology is used to judge the hydrophobicity of composite insulators, which makes detection results more accurate and overcomes the subjective drawbacks of traditional detection methods. As the traditional Canny operator requires manual intervention in selecting the variance of the Gaussian filter and the threshold, the paper presents a method of edge detection based on improved Canny operator. First, the adaptive median filter replaces the Gaussian filter, which can eliminate the impact from the variance of Gaussian filter and remove noise according to the characteristics of the image itself. Then the Ostu threshold method is used to select the best threshold automatically, which makes the edge detection be more continuous and reduce the presence of fake edges. The results show that the operator is applicable to all hydrophobic images.

Abstract: The traditional Canny edge detection algorithm exists the defect losing details of the edge, so this paper proposed an improved Canny edge detection algorithm. The algorithm used adaptive filter to eliminate the noise. It calculated preserving the more edge information while filtering the noise, the thresholds of Canny algorithm automatically according to the mean of variance and gray-scale. The results demonstrate that the method not only can detect more detail of the edge, but also can have a strong self-adaptability.

Abstract: Canny operator has proved as an optimal edge detector due to due to good localization, detection and only one response to single response. However it has some drawbacks. An improved algorithm has proposed by Gao Lie in which bilateral filtering is used that have better edge preserving and noise removing capabilities. For achieving adaptive thresholding OTSU’s method is used which automatically calculates the appropriate threshold values for a test image. This improved canny operator performs better than traditional canny operator, lower the probability of detecting the false edges and adaptive in nature. In this paper, we analyse the performance of this improved algorithm .We work on mobile images, containing noise, of different resolutions. The results of experiments show that it performs better for high resolution images but fail to find edges for mobile images of low resolution.

Automatic Positioning of Plastic Sprue Based on Machine Vision

Abstract: A method of automatic positioning of plastic sprue based on Machine Vision has been studied, this method uses morphological operation to segment each part from the workpiece and then recognizes the parts needing to cut by shape matching, finally positions the sprue along the edge of the various parts according to the characteristics of the sprue. This paper uses an improved Canny operator to detect edges of image and Hu moment invariants for shape matching. Through experiments, it proves that the method is feasible and effective and it can position the sprue of the plastic workpiece accurately.

Abstract: In the light of most current segmentation algorithms are of high complexity and huge computation, one algorithm of coarse segmentation in compressed domain and refined segmentation in spatial domain is put forward. The initial coarse segmentation masks from the motion vectors are obtained by applying Estimation Maximum(EM) algorithm. These blocks in the masks can be decompressed to obtain the origin image and the actual edges of the objects can be extracted by applying Canny edge detection and edge tracking only in the segmented regions. By using the proposed algorithm, the amount of data needed to be processed is kept in necessarily minimal, saving the computation time as well as gaining the pixel-wise edges of the segmented objects.

Abstract: Using canny edge detection operator, it is set 2 thresholds by users. Results of edge detection vary widely when we use the same threshold on the different images. This limits the practical application of Canny operator. To solve this problem, this paper presents an edge detection using odd Gabor filter. This method used non-maximum inhibition, and then used high and low threshold to detect the edge of the images. The experimental results show this algorithm not only overcome the defects of Canny algorithm, but also effectively wipe off the pseudo-edge of the image.

Abstract: The results of image edge detection directly affects the subsequent image processing operations. Effectively extracting the information carried by the image target is the main purpose of the image edge detection. In order to realize the extraction of a target outline, an image edge detection method based on a Euclidean distance graph is proposed. The Euclidean distance between points in the image is calculated, and the distance graph is obtained. The scenery outside the outline is well described in the graph. The scenery outline can be effectively extracted by using an improved Canny operator for edge detection. Compared with other general edge detection algorithms, the method can effectively realize the detection of a target's outline. Because small and trivial details are suppressed, the method gives a better basis for further image target outline recognition.

Abstract: Traditional line feature detection methods based on structureless algorithms of the Beamlet transform not only suffer from overlapping and ambiguities, they also can not detect the target information effectively. Moreover, they can not describe the detail information when extracting the line features of a complex image. Therefore, we propose a new line feature extraction algorithm based on an improved Beamlet transform and the Canny operator. First, the Beamlet transform is performed. There is at most one optimal Beamlet in a dyadic square after improving the Beamlet structureless algorithm and using the new drawing rule and the new energy function. Second, the Canny operator for edge detection is used with a larger Sigma in order to detect only obvious edges. Finally, line feature are detected by a combination of both. The algorithm is evaluated under several aspects, such as the continuity of the line feature extraction, the false detection rate and the miss detection rate. Moreover, this method is compared to existing methods. The experimental results show that our proposed method not only overcomes their weakness such as fractureing, overlapping, sambiguities, false edges and so on, but also effectively improves the accuracy and continuity when extracting line feature of complex image.
