Revista Brasileira de Educa??o Especial , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-65382007000300004
Abstract: the teaching of academic skills to individuals with autism has received little attention from research literature, probably because the classical deficits in communication, reciprocal social interaction and behaviors are seen as priorities in scientific investigations. nevertheless, the development of technologies for teaching academic skills to this population is necessary, mainly in the context of brazilian school inclusion. people with autism are being included with greater frequency in regular classes and, consequently, need adequate strategies to learn academic contents for their entrance, permanence and progress in the schools. many studies describe characteristics and difficulties that people with autism have, which can influence the way they learn. these variables need to be considered when planning appropriate teaching strategies for this population. among these variables are the ways in which these individuals respond to environmental stimuli, the way they think and their typical behaviors. this study describes strategies for teaching addition and subtraction to an adolescent with autism. these teaching procedures were elaborated based on the general characteristics of autism, principles derived from applied behavior analysis, and the repertoire of the participant. the results show gradual learning of the taught skills.

Abstract: this study assessed the performance of 20 persons with autism in an identity matching-to-sample task, using two procedures with different stimuli arrangements and different response requirements. the typical matching procedure presented one sample stimulus and three comparison stimuli; the adapted matching displayed three sample stimuli and three comparison stimuli simultaneously. three consecutive sets of trials were conducted: a 10-trial set of adapted matching, a 10-trial set of typical matching, and a 20-trial set intermixing both trial types in an unsystematic order. the average score of correct performance was significantly higher under the adapted matching than under the typical matching, but the inter-individual variability was large and the adapted arrangement favored mainly the performance of participants with lower scores. the participants' previous history in learning may have played a role in the way they solved the present task, but further investigation, with experimental controls additional will be necessary to evaluate this possibility.

Abstract: the right to enroll students with special needs in regular schools in brazil is guaranteed by law since the 1988 constitution. ministry of education school census data indicates that the number of students with special needs enrolled in regular schools in the country has increased over the years, especially in the municipal system of education. among the students regarded as having "special needs" are those with autism, who show impairment in social interaction, communication and stereotypical behavior patterns. the city of belo horizonte - mg has been taking action in order to improve access for students with autism in regular schools in the city, but data of the progress of this process is scarce. the purpose of this research was to characterize the students with autism enrolled in regular public schools in belo horizonte, as well as describe the way in which this schooling is occurring in regular schools, from the perspective of the teachers. thirty-three teachers who had direct and daily contact with students with autism in regular schools in the city participated in this research. a semi-structured questionnaire and the childhood autism rating scale (cars) were used. the results indicated that the strategies used by the city seem to enable the presence of the students with autism in the schools, but there is evidence that their participation in school activities is restricted, the interactions with their peers is scarce, and the content learned from the school curriculum is limited.

Equivalência de estímulos e autismo: uma revis?o de estudos empíricos
Gomes, Camila Graciella Santos;Varella, André Augusto Borges;Souza, Deisy das Gra?as de;
Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-37722010000400017
Abstract: the model of stimulus equivalence offers an operational specification of symbolic behavior, thus orienting teaching strategies and allowing for objective measures of new behavioral repertoires. autistic persons, often characterized by presenting, among other disabilities, severe language deficits, could benefit from strategies based on this model. this paper reviews the few empirical studies conducted with autistic participants, based on the stimulus equivalence paradigm. some participants were successful, while others failed. the failures seem to be more related to difficulties in learning arbitrary relations rather than to the emergence of novel relations itself, after the baseline has been established. the challenge for the field is to develop procedures that are truly effective in establishing arbitrary relations and, consequently, the formation of equivalence classes.
Effect of high energy milling on the microstruture and properties of wc-ni composite
Torres, Camila dos Santos;Schaeffer, Lírio;
Materials Research , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-14392010000300004
Abstract: hard metal is a composite material used in several areas of machining, mining and construction. it can be applied directly on oil and gas drilling equipment components. the main objective of this work was to apply a high energy milling technique to produce the wc-ni composite and study the effects of milling time in the material properties. the milling of hard metal wc-20ni, was performed for milling times of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 hours. the starting powders were characterized by laser sedigraphy, sem and eds. microstrutural analysis of the sintered samples was performed by optical microscopy, microhardness and density by archimedes. the best results for the wc-20%ni composite were achieved for 8 hours milling, where the density and hardness reached 97.09% and 1058 ± 54 hv, respectively, after sintering.

PURPOSE: to check the prevalence of phonological deviations and processes according to gender and age. METHOD: statistic and descriptive analysis of phonological evaluation of Yavas, Hernandorema and Lamprecht (2002). This was carried through in 60 kindergarden schools from 4 to 6 year old in municipal schools in Canoas - RS. The sample consisted of children whose parents did not report any auditory and neurological alterations and syndromes in the questionnaire. They did not specify if these children had already taken phonological treatment or phonetic deviations. RESULTS: the prevalence of phonological deviations was 55% and most of them were males. When they were 5 year old, we found major prevalence of phonological deviations. The most found phonological processes were a consonantal join of reduction (46,7%) , final liquid erase (40%) and liquid substitution (30%). The relations of the phonological prevalence process with gender were demonstrated similar in certain ways, except from the atonic syllabus for the male gender. CONCLUSION: the high prevalence of phonological deviations shows the necessity of public programs and health prevention for human communication.
