Phytoremediation Potential of Three Species of Macrophytes for Nitrate in Contaminated Water  [PDF]

Abstract: Three species of aquatic plants (Scirpus validus, Phragmites australis and Acorus calamus) were used as experimental materials to study their capacity to purify contaminated water and their effects on water pH and dissolved oxygen (DO). The water was contaminated with different concentrations of nitrate (5 mg/L, 15 mg/L and 25 mg/L). The results indicated that the concentration of nitrate, species of aquatic plant and their interaction significantly impacted denitrification (P = 0.00). Under the same concentrations, the three species of aquatic plants provided varying degrees of purification. Acorus calamus provided effective purification under all three concentrations of nitrate wastewater, with removal percentages of 87.73%, 83.80% and 86.72% for nitrate concentrations of 5 mg/L, 15 mg/L and 25 mg/L, respectively. In terms of the purification ability by unit fresh weight, Acorus calamus exhibited the worst purification capacity, whereas the capacities of Scirpus validus and Phragmites australis were higher. Abstract: Team psychological empowerment refers to the collective cognition which team members emerge from the state that how their teams have been empowered. More empowered teams tend to perform better than the less empowered teams, especially on the innovation behavior and creative outcome. This paper presents the connotation and measurement methods of team psychological empowerment, and then summarizes and discusses the influencing factors and mechanism to innovation performance of organizations. Finally, a brief outlook for the future research has been conducted.
Control of epitaxial relationships of ZnO/SrTiO3 heterointerfaces by etching the substrate surface

Abstract: Wurtzite ZnO thin films with different epitaxial relationships are obtained on as-received and etched (001), (011), and (111) SrTiO3 (STO) by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). ZnO films exhibit nonpolar (1120) orientation with in-plane orientation relationship of <0001>ZnO//<110>STO on as-received (001) STO, and polar c-axis growth with <1100>ZnO//<110>STO on etched (001) STO substrates. ZnO films change from polar (0001) to semipolar (1012) oriented on as-received and etched (011) STO. On as-received and etched (111) STO, ZnO films show the same growing direction of polar (0001), but different in-plane orientations with 30° rotation. The change of epitaxial relationship of ZnO films on as-received and etched (001), (011), and (111) STO substrates is accompanied with the increase of lattice mismatch, decrease of bond density, and increase of substrate surface roughness. In other words, the epitaxial relationships of ZnO/STO heterointerfaces can be controlled by etching the substrates. These results show that polar, nonpolar, and semipolar ZnO films for different applications can be grown epitaxially on STO substrates by MOCVD.
RNA-Dependent Protein Kinase Is Essential for 2-Methoxyestradiol-Induced Autophagy in Osteosarcoma Cells

Abstract: Osteosarcoma is the most common primary malignant bone tumor in children and young adults. Surgical resection and adjunctive chemotherapy are the only widely available options of treatment for this disease. Anti-tumor compound 2-Methoxyestradiol (2-ME) triggers cell death through the induction of apoptosis in osteosarcoma cells, but not in normal osteoblasts. In this report, we have investigated whether autophagy plays a role in 2-ME actions on osteosarcoma cells. Transmission electron microscopy imaging shows that 2-ME treatment leads to the accumulation of autophagosomes in human osteosarcoma cells. 2-ME induces the conversion of the microtubule-associated protein LC3-I to LC3-II, a biochemical marker of autophagy that is correlated with the formation of autophagosomes. Conversion to LC3-II is accompanied by protein degradation in 2-ME-treated cells. 2-ME does not induce autophagosome formation in normal primary human osteoblasts. In addition, 2-ME-dependent autophagosome formation in osteosarcoma cells requires ATG7 expression. Furthermore, 2-ME does not induce accumulation of autophagosomes in osteosarcoma cells that express dominant negative mutant RNA-dependent protein kinase (PKR) and are resistant to anti-proliferative and anti-tumor effects of 2-ME. Taken together, our study shows that 2-ME treatment induces PKR-dependent autophagy in osteosarcoma cells, and that autophagy could play an important role in 2-ME-mediated anti-tumor actions and in the control of osteosarcoma.

Abstract: The similarity metric in traditional content based 3D model retrieval method mainly refers the distance metric algorithm used in 2D image retrieval. But this method will limit the matching breadth. This paper proposes a new retrieval matching method based on case learning to enlarge the retrieval matching scope. In this method, the shortest path in Graph theory is used to analyze the similarity how the nodes on the path between query model and matched model effect. Then, the label propagation method and k nearest-neighbor method based on case learning is studied and used to improve the retrieval efficiency based on the existing feature extraction.
Empirical Research on the Relationship among Sense of Control, Control Demand and Job Burnout  [PDF]

Abstract: Based on the literature research, the paper proposes a relational model of sense of control, control demand and job burnout. A questionnaire survey is conducted on the enterprise employees, and 362 valid questionnaires are collected, finally using the SPSS19.0 software to analyze the collected data. The results show that 1) sense of control and control demand are correlated; 2) sense of control has a significant negative impact on the three dimensions of job burnout (exhaustion, cynicism and inefficacy); 3) control demand has significant effects on job burnout.
Analysis of Runoff into Reservoir Change Pattern and Causes in Fenhe Reservoir  [PDF]

Based on the 58 years monthly flow data (from 1956 to 2013) editing by Jingle hydrological station of Fen River and Shangjinyou station, data resources are used to analyze the annual and inter-annual changes from spatial and temporal scale by statistical methods, mainly annual spatial and temporal distribution, trend of inter-annual changes, cycle and mutation changes. The reasons of runoff into reservoir changes are deeply analyzed by annual precipitation data of catchments above Fenhe Reservoir 1956 to 2013 and the land and water reservation methods which are implemented recently. It shows that there is a significant decrease of the inter-annual run-off with main and second cycle periods, 23a and 13a respectively. Furthermore, it exists mutation point between 1970 and 1971 through runoff series. As for further analysis of the causes of Fenhe Reservoir runoff changes, it illustrates that the change of precipitation is the main reason the facilitate runoff changes. Also, the land and water reservation methods which are implemented in upstream of Fenhe Reservoir increase water storage capacity of soil, showing it non-ignorable effect to runoff changes.

Abstract: In this paper, we discuss the nonemptyness and boundedness of the solution set for P*-semidefinite complementarity problem by using the concept of exceptional family of elements for complementarity problems over the cone of semidefinite matrices, and obtain a main result that if the corresponding problem has a strict feasible point, then its solution set is nonemptyness and boundedness.

Abstract: New α-aminophosphonates were synthesized by the Kabachnik-Fields reactionof 3,4,5-trimethoxybenzaldehyde (TMB) with p- or m-bromoaniline and a dialkylphosphite under solvent-free conditions. TMB was prepared from gallic acid via a fourstep synthetic sequence involving etherification, esterification, hydrazidation andpotassium ferricyanide oxidation. The structures of all synthesized compounds wereconfirmed by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-, 13C- and 31P-NMR spectral data. Compound 7gwas also characterized by X-ray crystallography. A half-leaf method was used todetermine the in vivo curative efficacy of the eight title products against tobacco mosaicvirus (TMV). It was found that compounds 7g and 7h possess good in vivo curativeeffects against TMV.
Regulation of interferon pathway in 2-methoxyestradiol-treated osteosarcoma cells

Abstract: 2-ME effects on IFN mRNA levels were determined by Real time PCR analysis. Transient transfections followed by reporter assays were used for investigating 2-ME effects on IFN-pathway. Western blot analyses were used to measure protein and phosphorylation levels of IFN-regulated eukaryotic initiation factor-2 alpha (eIF-2α).2-ME regulates IFN and IFN-mediated effects in osteosarcoma cells. 2 -ME induces IFN gene activity and expression in osteosarcoma cells. 2-ME treatment induced IFN-stimulated response element (ISRE) sequence-dependent transcription and gamma-activated sequence (GAS)-dependent transcription in several osteosarcoma cells. Whereas, 2-ME did not affect IFN gene and IFN pathways in normal primary human osteoblasts (HOB). 2-ME treatment increased the phosphorylation of eIF-2α in osteosarcoma cells. Furthermore, analysis of osteosarcoma tissues shows that the levels of phosphorylated form of eIF-2α are decreased in tumor compared to normal controls.2-ME treatment triggers the induction and activity of IFN and IFN pathway genes in 2-ME-sensitive osteosarcoma tumor cells but not in 2-ME-resistant normal osteoblasts. In addition, IFN-signaling is inhibited in osteosarcoma patients. Thus, IFN pathways play a role in osteosarcoma and in 2-ME-mediated anti-proliferative effects, and therefore targeted induction of IFN signaling could lead to effective treatment strategies in the control of osteosarcoma.
