Pereira, Cícero Roberto;Torres, Ana Raquel Rosas;Pereira, Annelyse;Falc?o, Luciene Campos;
Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-37722011000100010
Abstract: this study analyzes the relationship between prejudice against homosexuals and social representations about homosexuality. participants were 374 theology students (167 catholic and 207 evangelic) who individually answered a questionnaire about beliefs and attitudes toward homosexuals. results allowed to identify two forms of prejudice: subtle and blatant. the subtle prejudice is related to biological and psychosocial representations about homosexuality and to the disbelief in an ethical and moral nature of homosexuality. the blatant prejudice is related with the disbelief in a biological and psychosocial nature as well as with ethical and moral representations about homosexuality. in the discussion it is argued that social representations about the nature of minority groups can form the basis of prejudice and discrimination.

Psicologia: Reflex?o e Crítica , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-79722003000100010
Abstract: this paper analyses the influence, from a social representations view, of a justifying discourse about racial prejudice. in an experiment (n = 120), it was presented to participants a scenario where a shop manager hires a white girl discriminating a black one. half of participants also received a discourse justifying the manager's decision. the results show that the representation of that decision is organized in two principles: professional evaluation and justice perception. the participants who had access to the justifying discourse considered the manager's decision as been more professional and less unfair than the participants who did not see that discourse. the former group was also more tended to hire the white girl, while the other group did not show a racial preference. the discussion presents modern prejudice as a result of ideological discourses produced by majority groups to justify their social position.

Influence of sea water resistivity on MCSEM data
Luz, Edelson da Cruz;Régis, Cícero Roberto Teixeira;

Abstract: the marine controlled source electromagnetic (mcsem) method is a geophysical tool for the detection of resistive targets in the subsurface of the oceanic floor. in this work we model mcsem data in one-dimensional environments, including variations in the resistivity of the ocean water, as horizontal layers of uniform resistivity. such variations can arise from the influence of marine currents, temperature gradients or any other source of influence on the water salinity.we study the effect of such variations on the mcsem data. our results show that the interpretation can be strongly influenced, especially for normalized data. we see that changes in the water resistivity have a similar effect on the data as changes in the water depth, and that both affect the attenuation of the so called "air-wave".
Fundamentals of coaxial and coplanar coil arrays in induction tools
Carvalho, Paulo Roberto de;Santos, Walleson Gomes dos;Régis, Cícero Roberto Teixeira;
Revista Brasileira de Geofísica , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-261X2010000100002
Abstract: until about ten years ago, all commercial borehole induction devices were built up with the traditional coaxial coil arrays. since then, those apparatus incorporated the unconventional coplanar coil arrays, in order to investigate thinly laminated reservoirs and to locate axially asymmetrical anomalies like vugs and fractures. in order to comprehend the fundamentals of the coplanar array in induction probes, we present a comparative study with the coaxial array through one-dimensional modeling of some borehole environments, like: 1) homogeneous, isotropic and unlimited conducting media; 2) invaded thick bed with annulus; 3) horizontal and dipping multilayer sequences; 4) gradational transition zone between two thick beds; and 5) thinly laminated formations. the comparative study allows us to conclude that: 1) the skin effect is strongest in the coplanar array responses; 2) the coplanar array responses are more sensitive to mud filtrate invasion and annulus zones, which are direct indicators of movable oil; 3) polarization "horns" on the coplanar array profiles can be good bed boundary indicators; 4) coplanar arrays present the greatest sensitivity to detect and delineate thinly laminated reservoirs.
Autoritarismo e ades?o a sistemas de valores psicossociais
Barros, Thaís Santiago;Torres, Ana Raquel Rosas;Pereira, Cícero;
Psico-USF , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-82712009000100006
Abstract: the aim of this study was to investigate the relationships between authoritarianism and the adhesion to values systems. due to that, altemeyer's (1981; 1988) right-wing authoritarianism scale and the psychosocial value questionnaire (pereira, da costa & camino, 2005b) were used. the participants were 284 university students from goiania. the results showed that the authoritarianism scale was organized in two factors, named authoritarianism and tolerance. the results showed that religious values are negatively correlated to tolerance while hedonist values are positively correlated to this factor. the authoritarianism factor is negatively correlated to hedonist values and positively to materialist values. these results are discussed emphasizing the importance of adopting a psychosocial perspective, taking into account the broader context, in order to analyze political constructs as authoritarianism and democracy.
Sistemas de valores e atitudes democráticas de estudantes universitários
Pereira, Cícero;Torres, Ana Raquel Rosas;Barros, Thaís S.;
Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-37722004000100002
Abstract: this study analyses university students' value systems and the relationships among these systems and their attitudes towards democracy. two hundred and eighty-four university students from goiania (brazil) answered the psychosocial values questionnaire and the scale of attitudes towards democracy. schwartz's theory about motivational types of values and inglehart's theory on materialist and pos-materialist values were used to analyse the underlying dimensions of structure and content of students' value systems. the results showed that the values were organized according to four systems: hedonist, religious, materialist and pos-materialist. besides this, the results also indicated that adhesion to materialist values was negatively correlated to democracy while the adhesion to pos-materialist values contributes to a positive attitude towards democracy. the similarities among these results and previous studies are discussed.

Psicologia: Teoria e Pesquisa , 2004,

Abstract: metal ions are known by their physiological and industrial importance as well as by their environmental risk aspects. to elucidate the behavior of these elements in superficial water bodies, it is necessary to understand the various occurring interactions, mainly those related to the chemical speciation. one of the most important processes that metal species undergo in natural aquatic bodies is their interaction with dissolved organic matter (dom), which can happen through adsorption, ionic exchange and complexation. in this work, laboratory experiments with cu(ii), pb(ii) and cd(ii) ions and commercial humic acid were made under various conditions (ionic strength and buffering) to test the van den berg and kramer complexation model. after the simulation, the model was used to determine the cu(ii), pb(ii) and cd(ii) complexation capacity of natural waters from three important rivers in the state of maranhao, brazil (itapecuru, bacanga and pericuma rivers). the dissolved organic carbon (doc) concentration was used to express the dom concentration. the results confirmed that there is a strong interaction between the dom and metal ions, and that the van den berg and kramer model (with one coordination site) is suitable for estimating the complexation constant (k) and the ligand site concentration (lt). the simulated water samples used in the laboratory showed the complexation order: cu(ii) > cd(ii) > pb(ii); and the complexation capacity was directly proportional to the humic acid concentration. we believe that the smaller cu(ii) ionic radius yields a stronger affinity with the dom. in the experiments with natural waters, the river with more doc (bacanga river) showed better complexation capacity; however, the order was pb(ii) > cu(ii) > cd(ii) probably because of the presence of appreciable concentrations of cu(ii) in natural waters.
