Abstract: because an enriched environment (ee) enhances t-cell activity and t-lymphocytes contribute to immunopathogenesis during heterologous dengue virus (denv) infections, we hypothesised that an ee increases dengue severity. to compare single serotype (ss) and antibody-enhanced disease (aed) infections regimens, serial intraperitoneal were performed with denv3 (genotype iii) infected brain homogenate or anti-denv2 hyperimmune serum followed 24 h later by denv3 (genotype iii) infected brain homogenate. compared aed for which significant differences were detected between the ee and impoverished environmental (ie) groups (kaplan-meyer log-rank test, p = 0.0025), no significant differences were detected between the ss experimental groups (kaplan-meyer log-rank test, p = 0.089). survival curves from ee and ie animals infected with the aed regimen were extended after corticoid injection and this effect was greater in the ee than in the ie group (kaplan-meyer log-rank test, p = 0.0162). under the aed regimen the ee group showed more intense clinical signs than the ie group. dyspnoea, tremor, hunched posture, ruffled fur, immobility, pre-terminal paralysis, shock and death were associated with dominant t-lymphocytic hyperplasia and presence of viral antigens in the liver and lungs. we propose that the increased expansion of these memory t-cells and serotype cross-reactive antibodies facilitates the infection of these cells by denv and that these events correlate with disease severity in an ee.

Estudios y perspectivas en turismo , 2012,
Abstract: the tourist zone theory developed by boullón (2002) is a way to understand the tourist territory from a regional perspective. once knowing the existence of the "programa da regionaliza??o do turismo" (tourism and regionalization program) developed by the brazilian ministry of tourism it is meant to understand how a tourist region, as described by boullón, can provide tourism development to a specific geographical area. the br 343 road, located at the piauí state (brazil) provides access from teresina (piaui′s capital) and it′s coastline, considered a tourism corridor. this paper aims, from a theoretical review, to describes the tourist zone process at piauí′s central-north area, as a alliance to further tourist interventions due to the tourism offer observed at the br 343 road.

The tourist zone theory developed by Boullón (2002) is a way to understand the tourist territory from a regional perspective. O mal-estar na civiliza o: um diálogo entre Freud e Marcuse
Brunno Marcondes de Lima
Revista Mal-estar e Subjetividade , 2010,
Abstract: One of the questions gifts in the debates of the current world is on the diverse malaises that afflict great part of the world-wide population. This present work aims to analyse the question of civilization from some theoretical references related to Sigmund Freud and Hebert Marcuse thoughts, more specificcally in the work of The Civilization and its Discontents by Freud, and Eros and the Civilization by Marcuse. In the first moment, we searched for observing some conditions for both stability and developing of the civilization according to Freud, coming even to the basic idea defined by the author about the discontent that attacks individuals in their civilized life. We tried to consider the philosophical interpretation proposed by Marcuse concerning the psychanalysis theory, particularly through the concepts of more repression and t he performance principle and the extrapolation ofFreud's concepts. We searched for doing an articulation between the thoughts of both authors, featuring some possible approaches and distances between the two theories. Some differences were found about the argument of these two authors concerning the matter of civilization, specially in the question of the discontent in the civilization and of some possible exits for this discontent. According to Freud, it seems to have a basic repression acting in the civilization, whereas Marcuse evidences the existence of the more repression, which is an additional repression added to the developing process of the civilization by the interests of domination.

Abstract: The development of clean energy sources is a subject in focus and boosts fuel cells for research. In this context, studies on proton conductive membranes have an important role. In the present work two groups of membranes were synthetized: one contained SPEEK/SnO2 (varying the content of tin oxide from 2%, 4% and 6%) and the other with SPEEK/SnO2/HPW. The change in the membrane structure was characterized by X-ray diffraction, the swelling in water and ethanol solution uptake test, thermal stability using TGA, change in Tg in DSC, the selective permeability by pervaporation test in water and the solution ethanol and proton conductivity by impedance spectroscopy. Through these analyses, it is possible to verify some effects: the tin oxide particles reduced the Tg membranes, they also controlled the membranes swelling in water and kept it approximately 30% lower than the pure SPEEK swelling and finally, among the tin oxide quantities tested in the membranes, it was reached 67.8 mS/cm as maximum value of proton conductivity.

Open Journal of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases (OJEMD) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ojemd.2015.57009
Abstract: The Metabolic Syndrome (MetS) is a complex condition which is characterized by increased risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, such as dyslipidemia, hypertension and central obesity, in addition to increased risk for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). All of these factors alone have a notable relationship with DNA damage. However, when the risks are combined, the extent for major outcomes being related to DNA damage (cancer), the consequence can be accelerated by the metabolic dysfunction. This article will illustrate the scientific evidence of the role of DNA damage in MetS, as well as discuss the interplay of major risks factors (air pollution, physical inactivity and dietary interventions) in genomic stability.
Novos conceitos em modelamento corneano

Abstract: the cornea has a great influence in the visual process. however, it is liable to distortion, such as flattening. when this flattening is caused by the use of contact lenses, we call "corneal warpage". in this case, some symptoms may occur as blurred vision with glasses, conjunctival hyperemia, foreign body sensation, etc… used to think that the cornea was more rigid and, in time, realized that the cornea has viscoelastic properties. we can say that the cornea has a body biomechanics property and suffers instability when there are some changes, such as keratoconus, which is a progressive corneal degeneration. in order to preserve the cornea more stable, the cross-linking technique was developed to promote covalent bonds between the lamellae of the cornea to make it stronger and less elastic. other corneal change that may occur is based on the induction in corneal reshaping by using rigid contact lenses (only during sleeping) with high oxygen transmissibility (dk / l). this technique is known as orthokeratology and its concepts will be addressed in this study.

Abstract: Bacillus subtilis was investigated as production of biosurfactant using a combination based on waste of candy industry and glycerol from biodiesel production process as only substrate. The experimental design chosen for optimization by response surface methodology was a central composite rotatable design (CCRD) and dry weight (DW) and crude biosurfactant (CB) concentrations were selected as responses in analysis. Two techniques were implemented response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN). First challenge of study was to assess the effects of the interactions between variables and reach optimum values. With the CCRD results, RSM and ANN models were developed, optimizing the production of biosurfactant. The correlation coefficients (R2) of RSM models explained 88% for DW and 73% for CB of the interactions among substrate concentrations, while ANN models explained 99% for DW and 98% for CB, demonstrating that developed ANN models were more accurate and consistent in predicting optimized conditions than RSM model. The maximum DW and CB produced in the optimum conditions were 25.60 ± 5.0 g/L and 668 ± 40 mg/L, respectively. The crude biosurfactant also showed applications in cases of oil spreading in water due to clear zone produced in Petri dishes assays.
