Nicotinamide Inhibition Properties for Copper Corrosion in 3.5% NaCl Solution: Experimental and Theorical Investigations  [PDF]

Abstract: This work reports the inhibition properties of nicotinamide (NAM) for copper protection during its applications in seawater systems such as water pipelines, shipbuilding, seawater desalination and heat exchange systems. The efficiency of NAM as a copper corrosion inhibitor in simulated seawater (3.5% NaCl solution) was investigated by Tafel extrapolation and linear polarization methods in the temperature range from 20 to 50. The corrosion parameters and the adsorption isotherms were determined using potentiodynamic polarization techniques. It was found that the inhibition efficiency (η) and the coverage rate (θ) increase up 80% at 25℃ for nicotinamide concentration of 10 mM but decrease as the temperature of the solution increases. Moreover, the obtained thermodynamic parameters using Langmuir model suggested a physical adsorption type. A correlation was found between the corrosion inhibition efficiency and the global theoretical parameters obtained by the functional density method B3LYP/ 6-31 + G (d, p). Local parameters such as condensed Fukui functions [f(r)] and condensed local softness [s(r)] indices have also been determined to obtain a chemical insight into atoms that have a significant tendency toward donation or acceptance of whole or fraction of electrons.

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to evaluate the competitiveness of West Africa coastal countries (WACC) Ports using market structure-conduct-performance(SCP) framework drawn from the Industrial Organization (IO) concept. Market structure is evaluated through an analysis of market concentration using four different techniques namely the K-firm concentration ratio (K-CR), the Hirshman-Herfindahl Index (HHI), the Gini Coefficient (GC) and the Shannon Entropy Index (EI). Then market conduct is assessed by adopting Shift-Share Analysis.The results reveal that the WACC’s ports market exhibits a tendency toward deconcentration over the study period (2005-2014). This can clearly be noticed from the analysis of the K-CR and HHI. The K-CR analysis indicates that the market shares of the top four ports in the defined market have reduced over the study period. In the same way, the HHI value also reduced in the same period. Regarding the inequality assessment, the decrease in the value of Gini coefficients as well as the increase in Entropy indices for the WACC port market suggests a deconcentration trend within the period considered in this study. Regarding market conduct analysis, the shift-share analysis applied to the defined market over the period of study, demonstrates thatthe level of?port concentration in the WACC port market decreased within the period of study.
Altered Erythrocyte Deformability and Antioxidant Status in Patients with Schizophrenia

Abstract: Objective: Schizophrenia is a major mental disorder whose etiology still remains unkown. There is evidence that free radicals are involved in membrane pathology in the central nervous system and may play a role in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia. Red blood cells are also considered to be a peripheral marker in psychiatric illnesses. We aimed to provide further insight into the effects of changed antioxidant status and lipid peroxidation on the rheological behavior of red blood cells in schizophrenia.Patients and Methods: Twenty patients with schizophrenia and 20 healthy subjects were included in the study. Antioxidant enzymes and lipid peroxidation were measured spectrophotometrically and red blood cell deformability was measured by shear stress diffractometer.Results: Deformability of red blood cells was found to be decreased, lipid peroxidation was increased and antioxidant status was altered in the patients (p<0.05).Conclusion: It is understood that erythrocyte deformability was impaired and antioxidant status was altered in patients with schizophrenia. Abstract: The very conserved Notch pathway is used iteratively during development and adulthood to regulate cell fates. Notch activation relies on interactions between neighboring cells, through the binding of Notch receptors to their ligands, both transmembrane molecules. This inter-cellular contact initiates a cascade of events eventually transforming the cell surface receptor into a nuclear factor acting on the transcription of specific target genes. This review highlights how the various processes undergone by Notch receptors and ligands that regulate the pathway are linked to ubiquitination events.

Abstract: País de selva y de savana, Costa de Marfil conoce desde hace mas de cuarenta a os, una variabilidad importante de sus condiciones bioclimáticas. Correlativamente a esta variabilidad climática, se nota una modificación en la dinámica de la cubierta vegetal. Las modificaciones del medio ambiente registradas desde los a os 60 están en interacción con la fuerte movilidad espacial de las poblaciones campesinas. La fuerte presión territorial que resulta de ella desemboca en modificaciones profundas del medio forestal. Estas nuevas condiciones bioclimáticas hacen vulnerables algunas culturas, precisamente la de cacao, llevando a una bajada importante de la cosechas agrícolas. Ante el fracaso de las políticas publicas para restaurar las potencialidades agroecológicas de los medios rurales, la agronomía forestal aparece como una solución viable para la supervivencia de la agricultura marfile a en particular y africana en general. Pero hay que adoptar también decisiones políticas y económicas para facilitar la difusión y la accesibilidade de este herramienta agroambiental.

Abstract: Background: If the alcohol use and dependence disorders are differentiated by the pharmaco-dependence, they share complex relationships with other clinical disorders and personality disorders. The purpose of this paper is to produce a model that reflects its relations both among users than among addicts. Method: Data from questionnaires measuring key variables selected for this study have been collected from people with alcohol misuse (n = 83) and alcohol-dependent (n = 81) in rehab. A model of drug dependence has been produced from these data that gives complete satisfaction to the criteria of SEM. Discussion: This model reflects the shift from abuse to a dependent consumption by the presence of feedbacks involving pharmaco-dependence, disturbance of the alcohol consumption by psychological distress and depressive traits. To further guarantee its validity, however it should be tested by collecting data from other surveys.

Influence of Post-Harvest Storage Technologies on Weight and Rate Losses and Sensory Profile of Cola Nuts (Cola nitida) Produced in C?te d’Ivoire  [PDF]

Abstract: The conservation of cola nuts (Cola nitida) poses a real problem in Côte dIvoire because of the post-harvest losses. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of post-harvest technologies on organoleptic and physical properties of cola nut during storage. A biopesticide, glucose syrup and biopesticide + glucose syrup were applied to fresh cola nuts before conditioning and kept at 28°;C for 6 weeks. Physicochemical and sensory analyses were performed to check the quality of the nuts during storage. The results showed that the biopesticide keep cola nuts better than the others methods with only 11.66% ± 3.04% and 13.66% ± 3.95% of loss rates for white and red cola nuts respectively. Cola nuts treated with bio-pesticide retain significantly their freshness with 62.00% ± 1.15% of moisture for white nuts and 64.00% ± 2.00% of moisture for red nuts compared to those treated with glucose syrup and bio-pesticide + glucose syrup (56.66% ± 1.15%). Cola nuts treated with biopesticide have a better acceptability compared to those subjected to others treatments. The use of biopesticide for the storage of cola nuts minimizes the losses and maintains the quality whatever the type of cola.
