Online Finger Gesture Recognition Using Surface Electromyography Signals  [PDF]

The analysis on the online finger gesture recognition using multi-channel sEMG signals was explored in this paper. Nine types of gestures were applied to be identified, involving six kinds of numerical finger gestures and three kinds of hand gestures. The time domain parameters were extracted to be the features. And then, the probabilistic neural network was utilized to classify the proposed gestures with the extracted features. The experimental results showed that most of gestures could acquire the acceptable classification performance and a few elaborate gestures were hard to acquire the effective identification.

We investigate the right p.q.-Baer property of skew group rings under finite group action, Assume that R is a semiprime ring with a finite group G of X-outer ring automorphisms of R, then 1) R*G is p.q.-Baer if and only if R is G-p.q.-Baer; 2) if R is p.q.-Baer, then R*G is p.q.-Baer.

This study is aimed to validate the extraction process of Isatis Radix. Using near infrared spectroscopy and high performance liquid chromatography to determine the uridine, adenosine, guanosine contents in Isatis Radix Solution, as well as NIR to monitor the extraction process. The results indicate that the existing extraction is optimized to extract thoroughly.

Abstract: This paper evaluates the livability and convenience of social housing in Liberia from the residents’ perspectives. Using residents’ appraisal from several social housing projects in the suburb of Monrovia, residents’ satisfaction index with regards to the aesthetic, durability and comfort of their homes were measured. It also assessed their overall living environment which includes access to road and basic service facilities such as hospitals, schools, shopping and recreational centers. How secured and comfortable do they feel within their homes? What are the driving factors that led them to acquire their homes? Data were collected from 662 household heads from three housing estates in the suburb of Monrovia using the stratified systematic sampling method and analyzed using IBM SPSS descriptive statistic. Results show that while occupants of public housing are satisfied with certain aspects of their homes, they are generally unsatisfied with their living environment. This investigation is detailed to inform architects, designers and policymakers’ decisions toward social housing in Liberia. It looks at the underlining challenges affecting the improvement of social housing from the end users’ perspective and how these challenges can be mitigated to meet consumers’ satisfaction and make them part of the design process and policymaking.
Analysis of Shupe Effect of Fiber Optic Ring Resonator Based on Photonic Crystal Fiber  [PDF]

Resonator fiber optic gyroscope (RFOG) is a new kind of high precision inertial sensor based on Sagnac effect by using a shorter fiber. This paper analyzes the noise induced by Shupe effect, and the characteristics of fiber optic ring resonator (FORR) based on photonic crystal fiber are analyzed. The influence of temperature on polarization and noise induced by Shupe effect are mainly investigated, and simulation results show that FORR based on photonic crystal fiber exhibits better performance than that of conventional fiber, and simulation shows that the noise induced by Shupe effect in FORR based on photonic crystal fiber is 7 times lower than conventional fiber.

Abstract: The rapid advances in 3D scanning and acquisition techniques have given rise to the explosive increase of volumetric digital models in recent years. This dissertation systematically trailblazes a novel volumetric modeling framework to represent 3D solids. The need to explore more efficient and robust 3D modeling framework has gained the prominence. Although the traditional surface representation (e.g., triangle mesh) has many attractive properties, it is incapable of expressing the interior space and materials. Such a serious drawback overshadows many potential modeling and analysis applications. Consequently volumetric modeling techniques become the well-known solution to this problem. Nevertheless, many unsolved research issues remain when developing an efficient modeling paradigm for existing 3D models: complex geometry (fine details and extreme concaveness), arbitrary topology, heterogenous materials, large-scale data storage and processing, etc.
A Spline-based Volumetric Data Modeling Framework and Its Applications

Abstract: In this dissertation, we concentrate on the challenging research issue of developing a spline-based modeling framework, which converts the conventional data (e.g., surface meshes) to tensor-product trivariate splines. This methodology can represent both boundary/volumetric geometry and real volumetric physical attributes in a compact and continuous fashion. The regular tensor-product structure enables our new developed methods to be embedded into the industry standard seamlessly. These properties make our techniques highly preferable in many physically-based applications including mechanical analysis, shape deformation and editing, virtual surgery training, etc.

Abstract: Today, the number of embedded system was applied in the field of automation and control has far exceeded a variety of general-purpose computer. Embedded system is gradually penetrated into all fields of human society, and ubiquitous embedded applications constitute the "ubiquitous" computing era. Embedded operating system is the core of the em-bedded system, and it directly affects the performance of the whole system. Our Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Embedded Technology has successfully developed five kinds of device-level embedded operating systems by more than ten years’ efforts, and these systems are Webit 5.0, Worix, μKernel, iDCX 128 and μc/os-II 128. This paper mainly analyses and compares the implementation mechanism and performance of these five kinds of device-level embedded operating systems in detail.

Abstract: Based on MATLAB, a new model-BRF network model is founded to be used in groundwater dynamic simulation and prediction. It is systematically studied about the training sample set, testing sample set, the pretreatment of the original data, neural network construction, training, testing and evaluating the entire process. A favorable result is achieved by applying the model to simulate and predict groundwater dynamics, which shows this new method is precise and scientific.
The Method for Measuring the Loop Resistance and the Temperature Rise Calculation of GIS Conductor Pole  [PDF]

This paper studies the method for measuring the loop resistance of GIS conductor pole based on the super capacitor producing impulse current up to several thousand amperes. This method overcomes the limitations of conventional diagnostic method. Typical GIS conductor poles are chosen. Based on FEA and lab tests, the effect of different forms of current and contact condition, relationship between the temperature of contact and the loop resistance is researched. In full- scale testing under realistic operating conditions on the new 220 kV GIS using prototype instrumentation a very good sensitivity in an early stage was obtained.
