Numerical simulation and performance test of metal hydride hydrogen storage system

Abstract: Metal hydride reactors are widely used in many industrial applications, such as hydrogen storage, thermal compression, heat pump, etc. According to the research requirement of metal hydride hydrogen storage, the thermal analyses have been implemented in the paper. The metal hydride reaction beds are considered as coupled cylindrical tube modules which combine the chemical absorption and desorption in metal hydride. The model is then used metal hydride LaNi5 as an example to predict the performance of metal hydride hydrogen storage devices, such as the position of hydration front and the thermal flux. Under the different boundary condition the characteristics of heat transfer and mass transfer in metal hydride have influence on the hydrogen absorption and desorption. The researches revealed that the scroll design can improve the temperature distribution in the reactor and the porous tube for directing hydrogen can increase the penetration depth of hydride reaction to decrease the hydrogen absorption time.
Oval Cell Response Is Attenuated by Depletion of Liver Resident Macrophages in the 2-AAF/Partial Hepatectomy Rat

Abstract: Background/Aims Macrophages are known to play an important role in hepatocyte mediated liver regeneration by secreting inflammatory mediators. However, there is little information available on the role of resident macrophages in oval cell mediated liver regeneration. In the present study we aimed to investigate the role of macrophages in oval cell expansion induced by 2-acetylaminofluorene/partial hepatectomy (2-AAF/PH) in rats. Methodology/Principal Findings We depleted macrophages in the liver of 2-AAF/PH treated rats by injecting liposome encapsulated clodronate 48 hours before PH. Regeneration of remnant liver mass, as well as proliferation and differentiation of oval cells were measured. We found that macrophage-depleted rats suffered higher mortality and liver transaminase levels. We also showed that depletion of macrophages yielded a significant decrease of EPCAM and PCK positive oval cells in immunohistochemical stained liver sections 9 days after PH. Meanwhile, oval cell differentiation was also attenuated as a result of macrophage depletion, as large foci of small basophilic hepatocytes were observed by day 9 following hepatectomy in control rats whereas they were almost absent in macrophage depleted rats. Accordingly, real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis showed lower expression of albumin mRNA in macrophage depleted livers. Then we assessed whether macrophage depletion may affect hepatic production of stimulating cytokines for liver regeneration. We showed that macrophage-depletion significantly inhibited hepatic expression of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6, along with a lack of signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 phosphorylation during the early period following hepatectomy. Conclusions These data indicate that macrophages play an important role in oval cell mediated liver regeneration in the 2-AAF/PH model.
Study on the mechanism of Hall effect thruster discharge with bistable state

Abstract: Experimental results indicate that there exist two stable discharge operation points in a self-excited mode Hall effect thruster. During the operation, the discharge operation point jumps to and fro between two values, which greatly influences the physical process of plasma discharge in the thruster channel and the comprehensive performance of thrusters. In this paper, by using the relationship between discharge magneto-ampere characteristic curve and magnetic field coil current curve, we propose the physical mechanism of forming the discharge bistable characteristic. On the basis of the mechanism, a method of stabilizing the single discharge operation point is presented through changing the slope of magnetic field coil current curve. The physical explanation is given through established one-dimensional dynamic fluid model for self-excited mode, and the results are approved by the self-excited experiment.
Experimental study of vacuum backpressure on the discharge characteristics of a Hall thruster

Abstract: It is found that the vacuum backpressure affects the flow of background gas into a Hall thruster channel. The flow of background gas can affect the ionization of propellants and the conductivity of electrons, and thereby affect the physical process and discharge characteristic of Hall thrusters. In order to investigate these effects, the atomic and the ionic emission spectra in the discharge channel and the ions energy distribution are measured under different vacuum backpressures. The experimental results indicate that the increase of vacuum backpressure can reduce the electron temperature and ionization efficiency of propellants and a new ionization region appears near exit plane in the channel; and moreover, it is found that the new ionization region penetrates into the channel more deeply under the higher vacuum backpressure case.
On the effect of magnetic field gradient on the discharge characteristics of Hall thrusters

Abstract: An experiment was performed to investigate how the magnetic field gradient in strong field zone affects the discharge processes of Hall thrusters, such as the ionization and acceleration of propellants, for further research on optimal design theory of magnetic field in discharge channels of Hall thrusters. The results show that magnetic field strength has little effect on the ionization of propellants within the designed range of magnetic field gradient, but has significant influence on the acceleration of ions.With the increase of magnetic field gradient, the ion-beam energy distribution tends to be concentrated, and the thrust efficiency tends to rise. Finally, further increase of magnetic field gradient may lead to a series of physical problems,among whith such as the finite Larmor radius effect, the changes in the law of electronic conduction mechanism, and the magnetic field gradient drift are analyzed.
Cloning, Characterization and Bioinformatic Analysis of the Gene Encoding the Larval Serum Protein 2 in Diapause of the Onion Maggot, Delia Antiqua  [PDF]

The full-length cDNA encoding Larval serum protein 2 (LSp-2) in the onion maggot,Delia antiqua, was cloned and sequenced by rapid ampli?cation of cDNA ends methods. The result showed that the cDNA was 2203 bp long and the open reading frame (ORF) of 2106 bp encoded 701 amino acid with a calculated molecular weight of 80.5 kDa and an isoelectric point of 5.87. The onion maggot LSp-2 shows highest homology (83%) to that ofCalliphora vicinaat amino acid level. Its signal peptides, domains and structures were predicted and analyzed by using bioinformatic methods. The amino acid sequence of LSP-2 suggests that it would be a typical hexamerin.

Charged Amino Acid Frequencies of Proteins over Macroevolutionary Time Scale  [PDF]

Charged amino acids (AAs) are targets for selective forces in protein evolution. To fully explore the trend of charged AA frequencies evolution in macroevolutionary process from prokaryotes to eukaryotes, we extend the analysis of five charged AAs separately and total basic and acidic AAs in protein sequences of 158 prokaryotic and 63 eukaryotic predicted proteomes and 456 clusters of orthologous groups (COGs). Also, we eliminate the biases that may caused by extreme organisms in both predicted proteomes and COGs analyses. More basic AAs, His,Lysand Glu were found in eukaryotic proteins compared with prokaryotic proteins by predicted proteomes analysis. By COGs analysis, we found that basic AAs andLysfrequencies are higher in eukaryotic orthologous proteins than their prokaryotic companions, while the trend of Arg frequency is the opposite. We discussed the agreements and disagreements of two analyses and gained a more credible trend of charged AAs evolution in macroevolutionary time scale.

Cloning and Sequence Analysis of Glutathione Stransferase Gene in Delia antiqua

Abstract: Glutathione Stransferase (GST) is a kind of detoxifying enzymes widely existing in insects. Its peroxidase vitality can protect the organisms against endogenous or oxide damage. The insect resistance to some pesticides is relative to the expression quantity of GST, and past research of insect GST mainly focused on the important role in the formation of pesticides resistance. This kind of genes can be used as the target of insecticide to design and develop new pesticides. In this research, the full length of GST cDNA of the onion maggot (Delia antiqua) was cloned using RACE technique (GenBank access number: JQ625502). The result showed that the full length of cDNA is 874 bp long, with an open reading frame (ORF) of 627 bp, encoding a protein of 208 amino acids with a calculated molecular weight of 239 kD and theoretical isolectric point of 583. The deduced amino acid sequence has the highest identity with that of Lucilia cuprina based homological analysis, and a phylogenic tree was inferred with homological GST sequences from other insects. The results provide a base and information frame for further research of the GST gene, and contribute to the related research of the insecticide resistance mechanism and development mechanism about Delia antiqua
