Nascimento, Raimundo Benedito do;
Ciência & Educa??o (Bauru) , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-73132004000100001
Abstract: students find mathematics more significant if they are constantly in contact with a variety of problems. the purpose of this article is to motivate teachers to enhance their geometry classes with problems taken from the everyday lives of their students. the logo environment can be used as an alternative methodological strategy, providing problem situations.
Leaf Anatomy of Prosthechea moojenii (Pabst) W. E. Higgins and P. silvana Cath. & V. P. Castro (Orchidaceae) as an Approach to Taxonomy of Species Occurring in Biomes Cerrado and Atlantic Forest of the Bahia  [PDF]

Abstract: Prosthechea is a neotropical genus, belonging to the family Orchidaceae. The Brazil recorded 32 species of the genus of which nine occur in the state of Bahia, including P. silvana and P. moojenii. The first, P. silvana is epiphytic, endemic Atlantic Forest areas of South and Southeast of the Bahia and morphologically similar to P. moojenii, rupicolous species considered endemic to the Chapada Diamantina. There are doubts whether these two species are really distinct, because they differ only as to the way of life and aspects related to the size of the inflorescence and floral structure. Thus the anatomical study of these two species, emerges as a tool that aims to investigate the delimitation of these taxa. For this study, the sheet was cut freehand with a razor blade to obtain cross sections and treated by chemical means to obtain paradermic sections, all the material was stained with safranine/Astra blue (safrablau) and safranin, respectively, and the sections were then mounted between a semipermanent and cover slipped slides. The results allowed to distinguish P. silvana of the P. moojenii through the following characteristics observed in the leaf (thickening of the cell walls of epidermal cells, amount and disposition of sclerenchyma fibers and fiber arrangement of vascular and vascular bundles in the mesophyll) and root (number of arcs of xylem and phloem, thickening of cells median cortex), infers taxonomic characters for the genus. The data indicated anatomical distinction between the two species studied here of the Prosthechea, however, suggest the anatomical analysis of other organs to reproductive and vegetative.

Abstract: the electronic mail is one of the more popular aspects of the internet. it is an incentive to teachers to integrate this tecnological resource into their respective subjects. it may be used as a technique for bettering the teaching-learning process. teachers in some subjects, in courses at graduate and master levels at the federal university of ceará, have considered enrolled students using the electronic mail with a view to bettering the exchange of information among students and teachers. the objective of this research is to access the opinions of the students with reference to the use of the electronic mail and the instructional success its use affords. a questionaire containing two scales of opinions was applied to a random sample of 123 students studying a subject that was using the electronic mail. it was observed that only 27,6% of those interviewed showed a high level of concordance with the 13 items scale referring to the use of the electronic mail. however, 72,5% of those who answered the 12 items scale questionaire regarding instructional success and an exchange of experiences showed a high level of agreement.

Abstract: our society shows an increasing concern for adolescence, which is represented not only as a "phase of life", but also as a period that is always problematic. adolescents, as for them, are considered as subjects of such necessities as specific health aids. in practice, however, very little has been done for adolescents as subjects of rights, in spite of the debate about the statute of children and adolescents. based on a criticism to this position, this paper aims at presenting an experience of research intervention in non-formal education with a group of low-class adolescents, in which we intend to discuss the current notion of adolescence, allowing a kind of identification and (re)construction of other meanings.
COMPARA??O DOS MéTODOS OFICIAIS DE ANáLISE E CROMATOGRáFICOS PARA A DETERMINA??O DOS TEORES DE ALDEíDOS E áCIDOS EM BEBIDAS ALCOóLICAS

Abstract: a comparative study of official and chromatographic methods for the determination of aldehydes and carboxylic acids in alcoholic beverages is reported. the data are based on the analyses of thirty five spirits. regarding the determination of the total content of aldehydes and acids, both chromatographic and official methods exhibit similar accuracy and reproducibility. however, only the chromatographic methods allow identification and quantification of the components of each homologous series. the proposed methodologies using gas and liquid chromatography are easy to handle, fast and more sensitive than the official methods, being also applicable to colored samples.

Abstract: the quantitative chemical analysis of the brazilian sugar cane spirit distilled from glass column packaged with copper, stainless steel, aluminum sponge, or porcelain balls is described. the main chemical compounds determined by gas chromatography coupled with flame ionization (fid) and flame photometric (fpd) detectors and liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detector are aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, alcohols, esters and dimethylsulfite (dms). the spirits produced either in columns filled with copper or aluminum pot still exhibits the lowest dms contents but the higher sulfate and methanol contents, whereas spirits produced in stainless steel or porcelain showed higher dms concentration and lower teors of sulfate ion and methanol. these observations are coherent with dms oxidation to sulfate, with methanol as by product, in the presence of either copper or aluminum.

Abstract: objectives: to understand the social representation of poor married women in relation to aids. this understanding will contribute to fight the epidemics in a way more in tune with reality. methods: sixteen interviews were accomplished in poor women with stable marriages. the interviews were taped, transcribed and grouped according to evaluation and analysis criteria. analysis was performed through a hermeneutic proposal related to the interpretation of underlying meanings. results: there was an increase of women's vulnerability concerning hiv/aids based on the social awareness these women have of aids, considering that their perception eventually provides them with a false immunity sensation for they do not have the profile which they imagine carry the virus or the disease. conclusions: current epidemiological aids profile points towards women as the target of infection, particularly through sexual relations which are established by gender relations. they regard aids as a distant evil, and if close, not related to them, and when it does it is legitimated by being "the deed of god" or stemming from their own roles as wives.

Química Nova , 1998,
Abstract: This paper describes variations in the profile of the main volatile organic compounds present in Brazilian sugar cane spirits distilled in copper and stainless steel distillers. The main organic compounds: aldehydes, ketones, carboxylic acids, alcohols and esters, were determined through High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) and High Resolution Gas Cromatography (HRGC). The spirits produced in copper distillers exhibit higher contents of aldehydes with respect to the ones produced in stainless steel. The inverse is true with respect to the higher alcohol and ester contents. No significant variation has been observed for the carboxylic acids.
