Abstract: nowadays, farmers have great interest in milk production within an organic system due to the consumers' claim for natural products. the purpose of this paper was to study the cytological and microbiological quality of milk produced by four farms in the county of botucatu, sp, which use organic system management. a total of 150 mammary gland milk samples were tested by cmt and somatic cell count (scc/ml milk), microbiological examination, and colony former unit count (cfu mesophile microrganisms/ml milk). from these individual milk samples, 66 (44.0%) were cmt positive. corynebacterium bovis was isolated from 37.9% milk samples, staphylococcus aureus from 18.2%, s. epidermidis from 15.2%, streptococcus uberis from 3.0%, and s. dysgalactiae from 3.0%. association of at least two different bacteria species was observed in 7.6% samples. in respect to the whole milk of each farm, the scc/ml values were in normal limits on three of them (i.e. lower than 400x103), and considering the cfu/ml, on three farms high levels were observed (8,5x105; 1,5x106; 4,1x105). from the individual milk samples, contagious mastitis pathogens were isolated predominantly, but environmental microorganisms were detected from the whole milk, as escherichia coli and pseudomonas aeruginosa, probably due to contamination during and/or after milking. the results suggest that more than mastitis problems, the four farms studied have hygienic deficiencies, what strengthens the importance of sanitary education to achieve a better milk hygiene quality.

Abstract: leptospirosis is a worldwide anthropozoonosis that infects livestock, including sheep as the carriers to other animals and humans. the present study aimed to determine the prevalence of leptospira spp. in sheep from two slaughterhouses in the state of s?o paulo, brazil and its association with epidemiological variables. serum samples from 182 sheep were evaluated for leptospira spp. antibodies by microscopic agglutination test (mat). results indicated 34/182 (18.68%; ci95% 13.70-24.98%) positive serum samples, mainly to the serovar copenhageni (17/34; 50%; ci95% 33.99-66.01%). bacterial growth in the fletcher medium was detected for 13/34 (38.24%; ci95% 23.87-55.08%) animals, and confirmed by polymerase chain reaction (pcr) and sequencing for only two kidney samples from two animals. thus, treatment and vaccination of sheep, besides rodent control, can be useful to prevent the infection in the studied region since sheep are important leptospira spp. carriers, and its transmission to slaughterhouse workers is mainly through the manipulation of visceral tissues.

Abstract: The Analysis-Diagnosis of Agrarian Systems (ADSA) is a method of study of the agriculture conceived for the establishment of local development strategies based on the farming sector. However, the scientific rigor of the ADSA is still controversial, because its procedures are very different from the ones of the usual research methods. In this article is made an interpretation of the ADSA as a method of analysis of situations of local development based on the Theory of the Complexity and on the Critical Realism. It is concluded that such approach can provide more solid beddings to the methodological principles on which the procedures of the ADSA are based, as well as bringing important contributions to the improvement of the ADSA efficiency in the development promotion.

Abstract: This case study aimed to analyze and present aproposal for improving the information flows inthe sector of passenger reclamations in an urbanpublic transportation company in S o Paulo. Itoriginated from a survey conducted in the firsthalf of 2008, the discipline of Uses and Users ofInformation in Library and Information Sciencecourse, Federal University of Sao Carlos. Thecorpus consisted of documents generated duringcollection and analysis of these complaints, as wellof the profile of the professionals involved in thisprocess. Of empirical and analytical nature, thework was based on the method of semi-structuredinterview. It was observed that the documentswere structurally satisfactory to the determineddemand, with professionals acting in a mannercorresponding to the required functions, suggesting, however, the sophistication ofmanagement and transfer mechanisms of theinformation produced through the deployment ofan automated management information andprocesses for the service complaints.

Abstract: pet-health (the educational program for health work) proposed by the fluminense federal university (uff) and the niterói municipal health foundation (fms) began its activities in april 2010 with the purpose of developing a participatory teaching-learning process, with daily work in health services as its central thrust, using health research and evaluation tools as the trigger for learning. the activities are developed from the perspective of developing a health diagnosis in the coverage area of each health unit affiliated with pet. the methodology is participatory research with direct involvement by health professionals, students, users, and faculty. reconstruction of local history has been used as the research tool, including documents searches and interviews with community members. important activities include registering and re-registering families and an epidemiological profile of neighborhoods. in this first stage, we identified interaction in a multidisciplinary team as a challenge that has fostered major strides in the shared understanding of the health-disease process by students, faculty, and health professionals.

Ambiente & Sociedade , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-753X2008000100003
Abstract: the article discusses the importance of research results about dissipative systems aiming a proper interpretation of society understood as an evolutionary system. in agreement with this interpretation, it argues that sustainable development should be taken as an open process, whose promotion should include the improvement of systemic properties in societies such as substantial freedom of people and collective intelligence of social groups.
A Agronomia e o Desenvolvimento Sustentável: Por uma Ciência da Complexidade

Desenvolvimento em Quest?o , 2009,
Abstract: The hegemonic conception of Agronomy has shown increasing difficulties in dealing with the complexity of the problems generated by the current pattern of development of agriculture. From an interpretation of the concept of paradigm based on Critical Realism, which seeks to exempt such a concept of elements of irrationality, the article discusses the possibilities of a paradigm shift in Agronomy. The discussion stresses that the Theory of Complexity and Critical Realism can provide consistent theoretical and epistemological bases for the formation of Agronomy as one of the "sciences of complexity." Thus, according to the Theory of Complexity, the consideration of agriculture as an activity constitutive of open systems is of fundamental importance for the possibility of Agronomy contributes effectively to the promotion of sustainable development. However, for that the hegemony exercised by positivism on Agronomy must be overcome. Therefore, the contributions of Critical Realism in this field are considered of fundamental importance. From these considerations, it is made the characterization of the hegemonic paradigm in Agronomy, called the Normal Agronomy, and the existing elements of a new paradigm, that of Agronomy as a science of complexity. Finally, the article emphasize that the discussion of the concept of paradigm developed indicates that, beyond a purely academic debate, this change in Agronomy is included in the broader field of the social correlation of forces and conflicts of interest. The formation of Agronomy as a science of complexity is, therefore, in an activity essentially emancipatory.
Fundamentos estatísticos da análise-diagnóstico de sistemas agrários: uma interpreta o baseada na Teoria da Evidência de Dempster-Shafer
Benedito Silva Neto
Desenvolvimento em Quest?o , 2008,
Abstract: In this work it′s argued that the Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence permits a statistical foundation of the Analysis-Diagnosis of Agrarian Systems. From a discussion of the difficulties to make statistical inferences about behavior of complex systems, it′s made a presentation of the Analysis-Diagnosis of Agrarian Systems, followed by a discussion of the Dempster- Shafer Theory of Evidence as statistical foundation of the Analysis-Diagnosis of Agrarian Systems. It is concluded that the Analysis-diagnosis of Agrarian Systems is compatible with Dempster-Shafer Theory of Evidence and, so, with a rigorous statistical analysis, especially when it takes in account the complexity of the agricultural development.
Complexidade e Desenvolvimento

Desenvolvimento em Quest?o , 2004,
Abstract: The paper has the objective of analyzing some contributions of the complexity approach for the studies on the development. The presupposition in him adopted it is that such contributions derive of the understanding of the complexity approach under two different point of view. The first is it of the complexity while a new scientific paradigm. The second point of view is it of the complexity as a scientific theory. The analysis of the literature evidences the importance given by several authors to the complexity approach while a new scientific paradigm, besides for the studies on the development. On the other hand, of a theoretical point of view, the literature analyzed in the paper indicates that the results of the researches about the complexity are still quite generic.
