Abstract:

Time-to-event has become one of the primary endpoints of many clinical trials. Comparing treatments and therapies using time-to-event (or “survival”) data requires some care, since survival differences may occur either early or late in the follow-up period, depending on various factors such as the initial potency or the duration of efficacy of the drugs. In this work, we investigate the effect of the CIMAvax?EGF vaccine therapy on the survival of patients with non-small cell lung cancer, using stratified and unstratified weighted log-rank tests. Weighted log-rank tests are designed to identify early and late survival differences between treatments. Using these tests, we conclude that the vaccine is more efficient than the standard therapy among patients less than 60 years of age.

Estabilidad acelerada de tabletas de levodopa-carbidopa (250-25 mg)
Fernández Cervera,Mirna; Fernández Cárdenas,Tania; García Verdecia,Beatriz; Gutiérrez Leiva,Jackeline; Iraizoz Colarte,Antonio;
Revista Cubana de Farmacia , 2001,
Abstract: an accelerated stability study of levodopa-carbidopa tablets (250-25 mg) was made using high-performance liquid chromatography which specificity for these purposes was proved. the influence of the artificial degrading media on the active products was analyzed and also the effect of humidity on the product′s satbility was examined after placing the tablets into hydrostats under controlled humidity levels. this domestically-made drug met the quality standards described in usp 23 and showed high heat stability.

Abstract:

Background: The Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM) is a center in Cuba devoted to the research, development and manufacturing of biotechnological products. CIMAvax?EGF is a vaccine for the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer patients (NSCL). Purpose: The aim of this work is to evaluate the effects of some potential prognostic factors on the overall survival of patients treated with CIMAvax?EGF vaccine, based on data collected in a phase II and a phase III clinical trials. Methods: The stratified Cox regression model is used to evaluate the effects of these prognostic factors, based on separate analysis for each trial, and on the combined data from both trials. Results: Patients with Performance status 0 or 1, with IV stage of tumor and male under 60 years obtain more benefit in terms of overall survival if they receive CIMAvax?EGF. Conclusions: Vaccinated group has a better performance if patients have a performance status 0 or 1, stage IV and age under 60 years. These prognostic factors influence overall survival in a positive way for those patients that received CIMAvax?EGF.

El vanadio, un elemento ambiguo
García,Graciela Beatriz;
Acta toxicol?3gica argentina , 2006,
Abstract: vanadium (v) occurs in about 68 minerals and in fossil fuels and it is mainly used in steel industry. air pollution produced by oil and coal burning is the main exposure source for human beings. reproductive and developmental toxicity, hepatotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity and carcinogenicity have been found in some vanadium compound exposed animals. nevertheless, the toxicological end-points of concern for humans are genotoxicity and respiratory tract irritation. on the other hand, v compounds have been studied as anti-diabetic, as antihypertensive, as anorexigen and as anti-carcinogenic. v, which has remarkable biological effects should be studied in order to elucidate its biological mechanisms and to determine either its expositional risks or its pharmacological properties for human benefit.
La Patagonia en los libros de lectura de la escuela primaria de Río Negro y Neuquén 1956-1962: Imágenes y representaciones: entre la realidad y el mito
García,Amelia Beatriz;
Historia de la educaci?3n - anuario , 2010,
Abstract: the study of the school texts as reflex of the pedagogic influences and political intentions, it supposes a new horizon inside the field of search of the school reality in the measurement that increasingly is got to know what has happened inside the classrooms, it what divides from the culture it has been selected for its transmission, how they have been the spaces, the contents, the books, the methods. in this line of analysis our lens is to analyze the representations that on the patagonia are they present in the texts (manual and books of reading). of a documentary corpus of twenty-four books of reading, edited between 1956-1962, we have selected to be employed at this article ten readings punctually recounted to the patagonia which contents raise its geographical location; they use the comparison with some europa's places to describe the landscape, linking it to tourist possibilities of the zone; or they refer to the famous legend of los cesares, one of the most fantastic myths, which formed early part of the imaginary argentinian. the construction of this region, of its inhabitants, of its possibilities they appear across key concepts that they present like opposite: desert /civilization; barbarian /civilized aridity/impressive beauty; inhospitable/ fertile; empty/ progress, that like map indiciario they allow to be identifying possible representations.
Las personas ciegas, su cuerpo, el espacio y la representación mental: their body, the space and mental representation
García,Carla Beatriz;
Cuadernos de la Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias Sociales. Universidad Nacional de Jujuy , 2010,
Abstract: as an interdisciplinary group of investigation and university extension we are looking for an answer for the challenge of space level and mental representation that blind people have to face in order to develop their life with dignity. the methodologic lay-out is focused on the heuristic, that means, in the aknowledgement, projection and process of maturity in the development of individual strenghts to search expression as a member of society. the blind child has to make a huge effort in his process of achievment of skills and this process must be oriented to the development of movement capacity, space orientation the recognition of objects. as a method, we deal with the knowledge of space based on the body and the aim of this method is trying to help blind children and teenagers to obtain mental representation. for this objective, we use representations in scale as mock-up models and puppets. this job is done exploring close suroundings, things that have access to the sense of touch and also by means of a ladder that allows us to reach on many ocassions what it is unaccesable: the ceiling. our goal is to work for space education for blind kids and teenagers. we also want to help them to build their own cognitive tools to move in the different spaces of their lives. we hope this method can allow them to compose a global image of the relation between body and space as well as with people and objects. the cognitive contents will imply for them a bigger range of intellectual skills and comprehension of the enviroment. as a conclusion, we think our work will provide new possibilities for blind people to become active members of society. for us, as sighted people, the opportunity to learn from difference.
