Fumincelli, Laís;Mazzo, Alessandra;Silva, Amanda de Assun??o Teodoro da;Pereira, Barbara Juliana da Costa;Mendes, Isabel Amélia Costa;
Acta Paulista de Enfermagem , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-21002011000100019
Abstract: objective: to assess the scientific literature on urinary elimination in nursing journals published in brazil. methods: an integrative literature review was used to review the databases medline, lilacs and web of science. the authors used 30 descriptors to search for articles published between the years 1999 to 2009, resulting in a total of 18 articles that met criteria and which were published by nurses. the papers were analyzed using a data collection instrument to identify journal name, year of publication, type of study, subject matter, and level of evidence. results: eighteen studies were classified as level of evidence iv; urinary incontinence was the most frequent theme in the articles analyzed. conclusion: while the clinical practice of nurses was integrated into articles addressing changes in urinary elimination, we found that this topic was narrowly defined, studies used lower level research designs, and it was noted that few authors published on the topic. all of these findings indicate the importance of greater investment in nursing research in this area of nursing knowledge and practice
Tatumella ptyseos causing severe human infection: report of the first two Brazilian cases
Costa, Paulo Sérgio Gon?alves da;Mendes, Juliana Monteiro de Castro;Ribeiro, Geyza Machado;
Brazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-86702008000500017
Abstract: tatumella ptyseos is the type species of the tatumella genus (enterobacteriaceae). this fermentative gram-negative rod has only rarely been reported as a cause of human infections; there is very little information about it in the medical literature. we report here the first two brazilian cases of t. ptyseos infections, both evolving to severe sepsis.

Revista de Enfermagem UFPE On Line , 2009,
Abstract: Objectives: to describe and to analyze the mortality maternal at Recife from 2001 to 2006. Methodology: descriptive, exploratory and retrospective study from quantitative approach. The population was of secondary data of mortality maternal in the database from Mortality Information System (SIM) of the Health Department at Recife, which totaled 94 deaths. Data were analyzed through the SPSS program for Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Excel 2003. Results: There were 94 deaths with a mortality maternal ratio of 65.95 per 100,000 NV; among the most frequent deaths of direct cause was the pré-eclampse/eclampse (37.5%) 91.49% of the deaths were considered avoidable. Its reduction is possible when you promote a better assistance to women during pregnancy childbirth. Conclusion: the importance of joint action of researchers, managers and health’s professionals will go to assist in the qualification of women's health, this way the reduction of mortality-maternal.

Montandon, Cristiano;Costa, Juliana da Cunha;Dias, Lorena Andrade;Costa, Fernando Henrique Abr?o Alves da;Costa, Ana Carolina Mendes da;Daher, Renato Tavares;Montandon Jr, Marcelo Eustáquio;
Radiologia Brasileira , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-39842009000600010
Abstract: objective: to evaluate main imaging findings of subungual glomus tumors. materials and methods: retrospective study of eight cases of subungual glomus tumors from the archives of two private clinics in goiania, go, brazil. plain radiographs were obtained in five cases, doppler ultrasonography in five, and magnetic resonance imaging in five cases. results: mean age of the patients included in the present study was 39 years, with female predominance (7:1). tumors didn't present prevalence in any specific finger and in most of cases the tumor was located in the medial subungual region. plain radiography was positive in five cases, demonstrating pressure erosion. doppler ultrasonography was positive in five cases, demonstrating a hypoechoic and hypervascularized solid nodule. magnetic resonance imaging was positive in all of the cases, showing a solid nodule, hypointense on t1-, hyperintense on t2-weighted image, with homogeneous contrast uptake. all the patients underwent surgical excision of the lesion with histopathological confirmation. conclusion: in most of cases, glomus tumors are subungual. the diagnosis is clinical and generally is lately achieved. imaging methods are useful tools for the early diagnosis besides aiding in the surgical planning, considering that the treatment of choice is surgical excision.
Poisoning due to Philodryas olfersii (Lichtenstein, 1823) attended at Restaura??o Hospital in Recife, State of Pernambuco, Brazil: case report
Correia, Juliana Mendes;Santana Neto, Pedro de Lima;Pinho, Milena Sardou Sabino;Silva, José Afranio da;Amorim, Maria Lucineide Porto;Escobar, José Arturo Costa;
Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0037-86822010000300025
Abstract: few papers have been published on snake bites caused by philodryas olfersii. we report here the first case identified at the centro de assistência toxicológica do hospital da restaura??o, recife, state of pernambuco. this case was described based on medical protocols, interviewing the patient and identifying the animal that caused the bite. the patient presented pain, heat, erythema, edema and ecchymosis, without other laboratory abnormalities or coagulation disorders. the treatment consisted of administration of eight ampoules of antibothropic serum, and post-administration allergenic reactions were observed. the importance of bites by opistoglyph snakes needs to be reconsidered in research and at specialized treatment centers.

THE DEBUT AND THE MEASURE OF QUALITY IN PRACTICE AND ACHIVEMENT OF SURGERY
Mendes da Costa P.
Jurnalul de Chirurgie , 2006,
Abstract: The aim of this paper is to evaluate the appropriate measure of quality of the surgical training and practice. Actually the quality of the surgical practice it is based on the surgical folder” which contents: the indication of the surgical intervention, results of the preoperative evaluation tests, descriptions of the operation, anesthesia and pathological exam and the summary of the hospital stay. Therefore, the quality of the surgical practice is evaluated by postoperative rates of mortality, morbidity, the lasting of hospital stay and the rates of re-operations and re-admissions. The adjuvant treatment, the postoperative infection and the use of antibiotics are also others criterions to evaluate the surgical practice. The evaluation of the surgical training and achievement is more difficult. The volume ( the more you do, the better you are”) is one of the most important criterion for the evaluation of the surgeons, especially for cardio.vascular and oncologic surgery. The guidelines for diagnosis and practice, the standardization of surgical techniques, the developement of the virtual reality simulation are usefull for the surgical learning and training. In Belgium the quality of the continuing medical education is guaranted by a peer-review system (accreditation). Conclusion: It is particularly important for surgeons to make a continuing self-evaluation and to participate to the continuing medical education.
HERNIA REPAIR BY TOTALLY EXTRAPERITONEAL APPROACH – 10 SURGICAL TRICKS
P. Mendes da Costa
Jurnalul de Chirurgie , 2007,
Abstract: During the last 6 years, 500 patients were operated by totally extraperitoneal (TEP) approach. The conversion rate was 1.2% and postoperative morbidity 0.8%. The mean operating time was 62.3 min for unilateral hernia and 75.7 min for bilateral hernias. The mean hospital stay was 4.3 days and reccurence was observed of 2.4% from all the patients. 10 rules has to be respected during the surgical procedure are also presented.
Indirect determination of the energy spectra of particles precipitated in the lower ionosphere associated with solar proton events
Aracy Mendes da Costa
Geofísica internacional , 2000,
Abstract: Electron density profiles previously measured using the phase and amplitude of VLF radio signals during outstanding solar proton events (SPE), together with the associated energy spectra of protons and electrons simultaneously measured by satellite, allowed the calculation of the electron-ion pair production rate q(h), for the sub-Antarctic and South Atlantic Geomagnetic Anomaly (SAGA) regions. Plots of q(h) together with the predetermined electron density vertical profiles were used to calculate the effective recombination coefficient ψ(h) for the SAGA region. Assuming that the chemical processes in the lower ionosphere due to the impact of neutral atmospheric constituents are basically the same, the spectra of the energetic particles responsible for the delayed ionization detected in the SAGA were estimated indirectly. The parameters obtained are in good agreement with results for the northern hemisphere and the spectra deduced are within the limits imposed by the cutoff rigidity and the penetration depth of the incident particles. The experimental data correspond to VLF signals transmitted from Australia (NWC - 22.3 kHz ) and from Ω-Trinidad (13.6 kHz) and received respectively in Atibaia and Curitiba, Brasil, during the SPE of August 4-7, 1972.
