Highly versus Normally Attractive Person in Picture Reviews  [PDF]

Abstract: This research explored the impact of person’s physical attractiveness in the picture reviews on women’s clothing purchase intention. The results showed that the physical attractiveness of the person in the picture reviews significantly affected the purchase intention of consumers, and the highly attractive person (HAP) could promote the purchase behavior of consumers. Body image was a mediator in the relationship between person’s physical attractiveness in picture reviews and consumers’ purchase intention, that is, people’s physical attractiveness indirectly influenced consumers’ purchase intention through body image. Finally, the influence of person’s physical attractiveness on consumers’ purchase intention was moderated by perceived similarity. When the consumers perceived that the people in the pictures were similar, HAP would promote their buying behavior. However, when the consumers perceived that the people in the pictures were dissimilar, HAP would reduce their buying behavior.
An Approach for the Construction of Systems That Self-Generate Chaotic Solitons  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper proposes a method for constructing partial differential equation (PDE) systems with chaotic solitons by using truncated normal forms of an ordinary differential equation (ODE). The construction is based mainly on the fact that the existence of a soliton in a PDE system is equal to that of a homoclinic orbit in a related ODE system, and that chaos of ?i’lnikov homoclinic type in the ODE imply that the soliton in the PDE changes its profile chaotically along propagation direction. It is guaranteed that the constructed systems can self-generate chaotic solitons without any external perturbation but with constrained wave velocities in a rigorously mathematical sense.

The Involvement of PI3K-Mediated and L-VGCC-Gated Transient Ca2+ Influx in 17β-Estradiol-Mediated Protection of Retinal Cells from H2O2-Induced Apoptosis with Ca2+ Overload

Abstract: Intracellular calcium concentration ([Ca2+]i) plays an important role in regulating most cellular processes, including apoptosis and survival, but its alterations are different and complicated under diverse conditions. In this study, we focused on the [Ca2+]i and its control mechanisms in process of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)-induced apoptosis of primary cultured Sprague-Dawley (SD) rat retinal cells and 17β-estradiol (βE2) anti-apoptosis. Fluo-3AM was used as a Ca2+ indicator to detect [Ca2+]i through fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS), cell viability was assayed using MTT assay, and apoptosis was marked by Hoechst 33342 and annexin V/Propidium Iodide staining. Besides, PI3K activity was detected by Western blotting. Results showed: a) 100 μM H2O2-induced retinal cell apoptosis occurred at 4 h after H2O2 stress and increased in a time-dependent manner, but [Ca2+]i increased earlier at 2 h, sustained to 12 h, and then recovered at 24 h after H2O2 stress; b) 10 μM βE2 treatment for 0.5-24 hrs increased cell viability by transiently increasing [Ca2+]i, which appeared only at 0.5 h after βE2 application; c) increased [Ca2+]i under 100 μM H2O2 treatment for 2 hrs or 10 μM βE2 treatment for 0.5 hrs was, at least partly, due to extracellular Ca2+ stores; d) importantly, the transiently increased [Ca2+]i induced by 10 μM βE2 treatment for 0.5 hrs was mediated by the phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase (PI3K) and gated by the L-type voltage-gated Ca2+ channels (L-VGCC), but the increased [Ca2+]i induced by 100 μM H2O2 treatment for 2 hrs was not affected; and e) pretreatment with 10 μM βE2 for 0.5 hrs effectively protected retinal cells from apoptosis induced by 100 μM H2O2, which was also associated with its transient [Ca2+]i increase through L-VGCC and PI3K pathway. These findings will lead to better understanding of the mechanisms of βE2-mediated retinal protection and to exploration of the novel therapeutic strategies for retina degeneration.

The Building Extraction Based on Object Oriented Classification Method in High Vegetation Coverage Area  [PDF]

Abstract:
Quickly extraction of building information technology is an important application in urban development planning, electronic information, national defense and others. This paper takes Landsat-8 multispectral and panchromatic data as data source, using the local variance method to select the optimal segmentation scale, normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and the normalized building index (NDBI) and panchromatic brightness value of an object oriented classification rule extraction. The high vegetation coverage area of buildings, and through the spatial relationships and distinguishing feature of collections of buildings independent buildings and villages. The results showed that Google earth high resolution image analysis and accuracy evaluation. the results of the extraction based on the overall accuracy of village extraction was 83%, the accuracy of extraction of independent buildings was 70%, according to the L8 remote sensing data, object oriented classification method can quickly and accurately extract the high vegetation coverage area of the building.

Abstract: In the application of large-scale ancient site protection, it is necessary to continuously monitor the ambient light, temperature, humidity and so on. However, it is impractical to frequently replace the nodes’ battery in the protected areas. So, the key methods to prolong the network lifetime are to aggregate the collected data and reduce the number of transferring messages. In this paper a Lightweight Data Aggregation Protocol (LDAP) based on the characteristics of the environmental changes in ancient sites is proposed. It has been implemented in the Lab with a dozen of MICAz motes and deployed in the real ancient sites. The result shows that LDAP is effective in reducing the number of transferring packets and satisfies the real application requirements.
