Abstract: Improving the soil and biomass with coal is estimated at the international level as a way to enhance soil productiveness, fertility and also to mitigate climate change. Biochar employed to improve land scope and impound carbon, is attracting a great deal of attention. Its characteristics of chemical, physical and biological properties, containing big surface area, CEC (Cation Exchange Capacity), high water-holding capacity, size of pore, volume, distribution, and element composition, affect its recognized influences, particularly on microbial communities. These are discovered in the agriculture lands, lands remediation and composting. However, incomplete information existed about biochar for several farmers or peasants in agriculture scope. Therefore, farmers or peasants and gardeners are facing new opportunities and defiance each day, from feeding global extending and expanding population, whilst meeting severe new emissions requirements, to create more food on fewer land area while reducing their environmental emissions. Widespread application and utilization of biochar in agricultural scope, forestry production, energy, environmental protection and additional areas, has interested awareness by scientists and investigators inside and/or outside the country. The objective of this paper is to provide a guide for the farmers or peasants and gardeners with an essential information about biochar and what the ability of biochar can be achieved in the soil, and which can provide the scientific reference for the biochar application, and to get high yield and good quality of crops in all of different soils.
Solubilizing and washing phenanthrene using microemulsion derived from castor oil and remediation mechanisms of phenanthrene-spiked soils

Abstract: The solubilization and washing of phenanthrene by sodium castor oil sulfate (SCOS) microemulsion were studied and compared with those by the conventional surfactants, Triton X-100 (TX100), Tween 80 (TW80), Brij35, sodium dodecylbenzyl sulfonate (SDBS) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). The extent of solubility enhancement is linearly proportional to the concentration of SCOS microemulsion.SCOS microemulsion exhibited the largest solubilization ratio (SR=0.0314) among the selected surfactants. The partitioning coefficients of phenanthrene between the emulsified droplet and the aqueous phase (logKem=4.44) was slightly larger than those between the micellar pseudo phase and the aqueous phase (logKmc). The extraction experiment demonstrated a high and fast desorption of phenanthrene from spiked soil by SCOS microemulsion, compared with by the conventional surfactant solutions. The results showed that SCOS could be an attractive alternative to synthetic surfactants in the remediation of contaminated soils.

Abstract: Many regions around the world are characterized by limited water resources, where the average annual per capita renewable water is about 1000 -1700 cubic meters. For instance, in china the problems of water supply are widely known globally. Though, China is facing main problem which is how to distribute water, instead of water shortage in itself. Therefore, restricted resources of water are increasingly stressed in the future by many factors such as excessive clouds of water, pollution and climate change. On the other hand, most studies have been indicated that the agricultural sector is one of the sectors that will face a large water deficit in the future due to the high demand for food, competition for water resources, drought and the high consumption of water due to the acquisition of traditional surface irrigation techniques. In spite of introduce modern irrigation methods such as drip irrigation in agriculture by developing irrigation methods and eliminating old traditional irrigation methods, however, its efficiency is related to the qualifying of farms and users of irrigation water, where they are the main users of irrigation water in water resources management. The considerable challenge facing agriculture is to raise irrigation efficiency depending on water-saving irrigation systems to provide water resources for crops. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to provide farmers with important points about using drip irrigation technology, to raise their technical level in using irrigation water, through their guidance to the best techniques and to avoid some common mistakes in design, utilization, management and maintenance of drip irrigation system.
Study on dechlorination of chlorinated phenols by ultrasound and zero valent iron

Abstract: 采用超声波和零价铁联用对氯代有机物3氯苯酚(CP)、2,4-二氯苯酚(DCP)和2,4,6-三氯苯酚(TCP)模拟废水进行了脱氯处理研究。以单因素法, 考察了铁粉初始投加量、溶液的初始浓度、超声波功率和溶液的pH值等因素对氯代酚降解的影响,并探讨了降解反应动力学。结果表明,超声波和零价铁联用对氯酚具有显著的降解效果,当水样初始浓度为25 mg/L,溶液pH呈弱酸性,超声波功率为200 W时,氯代酚的脱氯效率达到最大值。降解反应符合准一级反应,CP、DCP和TCP的反应速率常数分别0.0613 h-1、0.374 h-1和0.197 h-1。

Abstract: The novel carbon based acid has been synthesized via one-step hydrothermal carbonization of furaldehyde and hydroxyethylsulfonic acid. A highly efficient procedure for the synthesis of fructone has been developed using the novel carbon based acid. The results showed that the catalyst possessed high activity for the reaction, giving a yield of over 95%. The advantages of high activity, stability, reusability and low cost for a simple synthesis procedure and wide applicability to various diols and β-keto esters make this novel carbon based acid one of the best choices for the reaction.

Abstract: The complexity and limited data samples in evaluation of complex system are obstacles for traditional evaluation method. Based on Grey relative degree theory and principal components analysis (PCA) method, a novel systemic evaluation method is put forward in this paper. Firstly, standardization method is modified for evaluation objective, and the method includes expression (2) and (3). Secondly, for few schemes of complex system, grey relative degree, expression (5), is substituted for relation coefficient. At last, validity of the method is verified by evaluating 3 schemes of a type of UUV.
Removal of chlorobenzene in wastewater by micellar-enhanced ultrafiltration (MEUF)

Abstract: The removal of chlorobenzene (CB) in wastewater by micellar-enhanced uhrafihration (MEUF)using three single surfactants,such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS),cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CT-MAB)and Tween-80(TW80),and the mixed surfactant SDS-TW80,was investigated.The results showed that the effect of standing time on CB removal was neglected while that of shaking time changed little after CB was shaken for 1 h.The removal efficiencies of CB increased with surfactant concentration increasing.The removal efficieneies of CB by single surfactants followed the order as TW80>CTMAB>SDS.which appeared to be negatively related to the critical micelle concentrations (CMC) and the hydrophile-lypophile balance values(HLB)of surfactants.It was also indicated that the removal efficiencies of CB by the mixed surfactants SDS-TW80 could be significantly increased compared with the single anionic surfactant SDS.The removal effects could be enhanced while the mass ratios of nonionic surfactant TW80 in the mixed surfactants increased.In addition,the greater the concentration of surfactant,the less the permeat flux.The permeat flux by single surfactants followed the order as SDS>TW80>CTMAB.The permeat flux could be reduced when the mass ratio of nonionic surfactant in the mixed surfactant increased.
Multi-Strain Infections and ‘Relapse’ of Leucocytozoon sabrazesi Gametocytes in Domestic Chickens in Southern China

Abstract: Leucocytozoon parasites infect many species of avian hosts, including domestic chicken, and can inflict heavy economic loss to the poultry industry. Although the prevalence and distribution of two Leucocytozoon species (L. sabrazesi and L. caulleryi) have been reported in China previously, there are many questions related to the parasite infection that remain unanswered, including population diversity and transmission dynamics in domestic chickens. Here we surveyed chicken blood samples from seven sites in four provinces of China to identify Leucocytozoon infection, characterized parasite diversity within individual infected hosts and between sampling sites, and investigated the dynamics of gametocytemia in chickens over time. We found high infection rates in three of the seven sites. Clustering parasite sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase III (coxIII) and cytochrome b (cytb) genes showed lack of grouping according to geographic origins and individual hosts carrying large numbers of L. sabrazesi strains. Monitoring gametocytemia in blood samples from infected chickens over time showed ‘relapse’ or persistence of low-level gametocytemia for 4–5 months, which could be explored as an in vivo model for testing drugs against liver stages of Apicomplexan parasites. This study provides important information on population diversity and transmission dynamics of L. sabrazesi and for disease control.
