Chinese Medicine (CM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/cm.2018.94010
Abstract:

Background: To explore the hepatoprotective effect of Yigan mingmu oral liquid (YGMM) on isoniazid-rifampicin induced liver injury in rats. Methods: Total 38 SD rats were randomly divided into 6 groups including control group, model group, silymarin positive control group, and three YGMM treatment groups. Model group was administered intragastrically with INH (100 mg/kg) and RIF (100 mg/kg) for 14 days. Silymarin group and YGMM treatment groups were administered intragastrically with silymarin (100 mg/kg) and different doses of YGMM (1, 2.5, 5 mg/kg) 2 hours before INH and RIF administration from day 4 to day 14.Results: Rats were sacrificed 16 hours after the last day treatment to determine the activities of serum alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST) and alkaline phosphatase (ALP), as well as total bilirubin (TB) content. Oxidative stress was evaluated by measuring total superoxide dismutase (T-SOD) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. Histopathological changes in liver tissues were observed under an optical microscope by using hematoxylin and eosin staining. The mice?in model groups showed significantly (p < 0.05) increased levels in AST, ALT, ALP, TB and MDA compared to their control groups; and showed significantly (p < 0.05) decreased level in T-SOD. These changes were significantly (p < 0.05) reversed by the YGMM treatments in a dose-dependent manner. Hepatic pathological changes were attenuated or even reversed by silymarin or YGMM treatments. Conclusions: YGMM has a good hepatoprotective activity on isoniazid-rifampicin induced liver

A Gene Score Test for Disease Association with Multiple Genes  [PDF]
Changchun Xie
Open Journal of Statistics (OJS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ojs.2011.11002
Abstract: The traditional method for creating a gene score to predict a given outcome is to use the most statistically significant single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from all SNPs which were tested. There are several disadvantages of this approach such as excluding SNPs that do not have strong single effects when tested on their own but do have strong joint effects when tested together with other SNPs. The interpretation of results from the traditional gene score may lack biological insight since the functional unit of interest is often the gene, not the single SNP. In this paper we present a new gene scoring method, which overcomes these problems as it generates a gene score for each gene, and the total gene score for all the genes available. First, we calculate a gene score for each gene and second, we test the association between this gene score and the outcome of interest (i.e. trait). Only the gene scores which are significantly associated with the outcome after multiple testing correction for the number of gene tests (not SNPs) are considered in the total gene score calculation. This method controls false positive results caused by multiple tests within genes and between genes separately, and has the advantage of identifying multi-locus genetic effects, compared with the Bonferroni correction, false discovery rate (FDR), and permutation tests for all SNPs. Another main feature of this method is that we select the SNPs, which have different effects within a gene by using adjustment in multiple regressions and then combine the information from the selected SNPs within a gene to create a gene score. A simulation study has been conducted to evaluate finite sample performance of the proposed method.
The Impacts of Sino-US Trade on China’s Economic Growth  [PDF]
Hao Xie
American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2014.46037
Abstract:

China has witnessed many exciting changes after the Chinese government adopted reform and opening-up policy in 1978. In this process, the United States has a positive influence on China’s economic growth. Traditional view thinks that the influence of exports on China's GDP growth is greater than imports, but the result of regression analysis shows that imports have a greater impact on China’s GDP growth rather than the exports. Based on the statistics from 1998-2007, China’s GDP will increase by 0.455% if the volume of China’s exports to US increases by 1% while China’s GDP will increase by 0.825% if the volume of China’s imports from US increases by 1%.

Abstract: The Sino-US relations can be regarded as one of the most important bilateral relations in the world, and the Taiwan issue is the core of the relations. The main purpose of this paper is to analyze the impacts of the Taiwan issue on the Sino-US relations. These impacts are analyzed in the following four aspects: 1) the attitude of the US to the Taiwan independence forces; 2) the adjustment of global strategic objectives of the US; 3) the rise of China and the adjustment of the US’s China strategy; 4) the factors of Taiwan issue influencing on pattern of common interests of China and the US.

Abstract: We address the effect of the effect of benchmark effect of industry prominent firm for the influence of the duopoly competition. Consumers always consider prominent firms as the industry benchmark, when they evaluate other firms’ product, treating prominent firm as a reference point, thus show the loss aversion behavior. We find that benchmarking effect of the prominent firm makes consumer surplus increase, while decreases both firms’ profits.

Modern Economy (ME) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/me.2016.74047
Abstract: This paper investigates the relation between bank liquidity creation and capital in China. This issue is interesting because of the potential impact on “credit weakness” problems from tighter capital requirements which proposed by new capital rules in China. We perform regress analysis in a simultaneous equations model on the panel data of Chinese banks, which mainly includes 28 commercial banks from 2004 to 2014. On the whole, we find very different relations for different types of bank. State-owned commercial banks do not have significant relationship between liquidity creation and capital. National shareholding commercial banks’ liquidity creation and capital are positive correlation. The capital of regional commercial banks has a strongly positive effect on liquidity creation, but liquidity creation has negative impact on capital. These findings support the point that the new capital rules in China do not detrimentally influence “credit weakness” problems.
An Empirical Study on the Relationship between Female Executives and Corporate Philanthropy—From the Enterprise Life Cycle Perspective  [PDF]
Jinlong Xie
Modern Economy (ME) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/me.2018.91009
Abstract: This paper studies the influence of female executives on corporate charitable giving from the perspective of enterprise life cycle from 2011-2015. The research shows that: 1) Enterprises are in different life cycles, and the level of corporate charitable giving is significantly different. 2) The proportion of female executives in mature enterprises is positively correlated with the level of corporate charitable giving. 3) If the CEO or chairman of a mature enterprise is a woman, it will significantly improve the level of charitable donation of the enterprise. This paper not only promotes the research of enterprise charity donation motivation from the new perspective, but also has important practical significance for how to better fulfill the social responsibility and promote the common development of society.
Research on the Performance and Governance of the “Lazy Government” by the Unit Leader  [PDF]

Open Journal of Social Sciences (JSS) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/jss.2018.61008
Abstract:
“Lazy politics” problem has always existed, under the new political norm, the phenomenon of local government officials “lazy politics” is more prominent. Under this background, the author studies the phenomenon of “lazy politics” and its governance under the new normal politics. First of all, the “lazy politics” refers to the corresponding “diligent”, including “omission”, low administrative efficiency, no due diligence, and the performance of the new period in the new “lazy politics” into the enthusiasm is not high, the quality is not high, the efficiency is not high, do not want to face the new environment and new problems and new situations, not as well as to avoid the risk and responsibility for not. And then the reasons of laziness from individual, unit and system level are analyzed. In the end, some feasible suggestions are put forward.
Industrial Policy and Tax Avoidance  [PDF]

American Journal of Industrial and Business Management (AJIBM) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ajibm.2018.86100
Abstract: Since the past three decades, China’s economy has been growing rapidly. The impact of the rapid development of China’s economy is inseparable from the government, who intervenes in the economic life through laws, policies, regulations, etc. As a way of intervention by the government, the promulgation and implementation of policies have certain purposes. In the capital market, the government changes the financing constraints of companies through the implementation of industrial policies, thus changing their tax avoidance behaviors. This paper selects the listed companies in Shanghai and Shenzhen during the Tenth Five-Year Plan and the Twelfth Five-Year Plan of National Economy and Social Development as the sample to analyze the influence of Chinese industrial policy on the tax avoidance behavior of enterprises and their internal mechanism. Our study finds that firms that are supported by industrial policies have been able to ease their financial constraints and have a lower degree of tax avoidance than those that are not supported by industrial policies. Further analysis finds that the above phenomenon is more pronounced in the non-state-owned enterprises and the regions with weaker tax enforcement. Our study not only enriches the academic literature on the microscopic mechanism of industrial policy, but also provides new empirical evidence on the factors of corporate tax avoidance.
