Abstract: objective: to compare the left ventricular function and the ventricular synchrony in patients with chagas disease in latency stage respect to a control group. methods: we analyze a prospective, comparative, transversal and non randomized study of the left ventricular function (lvf) and the ventricular contraction synchronicity (vcs) in 36 subjects with positive serology for chagas disease (18 males and 18 females), with mean of 15 ± 5 years old. the findings were compared with respect to 23 control volunteers (11 males and 12 females) with mean of 28 ± 5 years old. lvf and vcs were evaluated using equilibrium radionuclide angiography images (erna). the comparison of both chagas and control populations was carried out by t student test for independent samples, considering a statistically significant value of p < 0.05. results: the parameters of the ventricular function and the ventricular synchronicity in subjects with positive serology for chagas disease were not statistically different with respect to the parameters of the control group. however, although they have a homogeneous contraction, the mean time of contraction for the right and the left ventricle is statistically smaller with respect to the control group. conclusions: in clinically incipient stages of chagas disease we do not found abnormalities in the ventricular function and the ventricular synchronicity. it's necessary to consider the follow up of the studied populations using indices for the identification of abnormalities of the autonomic nervous system.

ABSTRACT: Starting from an empirical research using qualitative methods, this article analyzes the formation of organizations and collective actions in different social stratums in the city of Lima. The dairy poverty which also affects the crisis of the masculine identity and female self-respect; the relationship between the traditional communitarian culture of indigenour origin and the atomization of the urban society; and the linkage between the organizations of the civil society and the political system in the Peruvian historical context. All of them are the most important factors in order to interpret the present and the potentialities of the collectiva action in Lima.

Two rods confined by positive plates: Effective forces and charge distribution profiles
G. Odriozola,F. Jiménezngeles,M. Lozada-Cassou
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1088/0953-8984/18/36/S08
Abstract: Monte Carlo simulations were employed to study two negative rods confined between two parallel plates. The system is immersed in a 1-1 restricted primitive model electrolyte. Ion distributions and forces per unit of area (pressures) on rods and plates are accessed by sampling the NVT ensemble. Pressures are analyzed by means of their corresponding electric and contact (depletion) contributions. This was done for several charge distributions on plates, plates charge densities, and plate-plate surface separation distances. We found an enhancement of the inherent repulsive rod-rod effective force when uncharged plates are the confining species. On the contrary, a strong decrease of the rod-rod effective repulsion was obtained for positively charged plates. Moreover, attraction was also found for plates having a charge equal to that of fully charged bilipid bilayers. These results agree with DNA-phospholipid complexation experiments. On the other hand, for a model having the plates charges fixed on a grid, very long range rod-rod sin-like effective forces were obtained. As explained in the text, they are a consequence of the rod-plate double layer coupling.
Assisted crystal growing by tempering metastable vapor-liquid fluids

Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1016/j.cplett.2010.11.076
Abstract: The metastable vapor-liquid coexistence of short-range attractive fluids hinders the formation of crystal nuclei, which in turn makes difficult the progress of the system towards its vapor-solid ground state. In this letter we show that crystal growth can be assisted by imposing temperature fluctuations. By so doing the obtained solid is nearly a fcc monocrystal in contrast with the extreme polycrystalline structure obtained at low temperatures. The study is carried out by combining the replica exchange Monte Carlo method and the standard slab technique. The obtained results suggest a pathway for growing coherent crystals from the metastable liquid. This is particularly relevant for the crystallization of globular proteins.
The effect of confinement on the interaction between two like-charged rods
G. Odriozola,F. Jiménezngeles,M. Lozada-Cassou
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.97.018102
Abstract: Monte Carlo simulations were employed to study two charged rods confined between two unlike charged plates, all immersed in a model electrolyte. Recently, it was shown that two rods immersed in a multivalent counterion solution may show attraction (PRL 78, 2477 (1997)). Here we show for a monovalent electrolyte that rod-rod attraction and repulsion can switch sign depending on confinement and ionic size. We also propose a simple self-assembling mechanism which may be helpful to understand the DNA-lipid bilayers complexation.
Entropy driven key-lock assembly
Gerardo Odriozola,Felipe Jiménezngeles,Marcelo Lozada-Cassou
Physics , 2010, DOI: 10.1063/1.2981795
Abstract: The effective interaction between a sphere with an open cavity (lock) and a spherical macroparticle (key), both immersed in a hard sphere fluid, is studied by means of Monte Carlo simulations. As a result, a 2d map of the key-lock effective interaction potential is constructed, which leads to the proposal of a self-assembling mechanism: there exists trajectories through which the key-lock pair could assemble avoiding trespassing potential barriers. Hence, solely the entropic contribution can induce their self-assembling even in the absence of attractive forces. This study points out the solvent contribution within the underlying mechanisms of substrate-protein assembly/disassembly processes, which are important steps of the enzyme catalysis and protein mediated transport.

Escritos de Psicología (Internet) , 2011,
Abstract: this study investigated the presence of pathological gambling characteristics in a sample of university students. in total, 908 students from different faculties at the university of murcia (spain) were assessed by answering the south oaks gambling screen (sogs). the results showed that 4.18% were probable pathological gamblers, 6.39% were at risk of pathological gambling, 49.5% could gamble without such risk, and 39.91% stated they never gambled. there were more male than female pathological gamblers and the male gamblers played more kinds of games than female gamblers. male gamblers also spent more money on gambling per day than women and experienced more criticism for doing so than women.

International Journal of Molecular Sciences , 2011, DOI: 10.3390/ijms12106919
Abstract: Epidemiological studies suggest that consumption of fruit rich in phenolic compounds is associated with health-protective effects due to their antioxidant properties. For these reasons quality evaluation has become an important issue in fruit industry and in breeding programs. Phytochemical traits such as total phenolics, flavonoids, anthocyanins, L-ascorbic acid, sugar content and relative antioxidant capacity (RAC) were analyzed over four years in flesh fruit of an F1 population “Venus” × “Big Top” nectarines. Other traits such as harvesting date, yield, fruit weight, firmness, soluble solids concentration (SSC), pH, titratable acidity (TA) and ripening index (RI) were also determined in the progeny. Results showed high variability among genotypes for all analyzed traits. Total phenolics and flavonoids showed significant positive correlations with RAC implying that both are important antioxidant bioactive compounds in peaches. We found genotypes with enhanced antioxidant capacity and a better performance than progenitors, and in consequence the best marketability.
