Isolation, purification and characterization of carboxymethyl cellulase (CMCase) from endophytic Fusarium oxysporum producing podophyllotoxin  [PDF]

Abstract: Endophytic fungus Fusarium oxysporum is a rich source of cellulases. In the present study, the highest activity was reported at 28 ° C, pH 5.6 with 2% Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as carbon source. CMC was purified using Sephadex G and DEAE cellulose chromatography to 15.9 folds and the molecular weight was determined to be 84 kDa by SDS-PAGE analysis and was subsequently characterized. The purified enzyme was stable over the pH range from 4.0 to 8.0 and at temperatures below 50 ° C. The enzyme was highly active on CMC and reduced or no activity on Avicel, cellobiose and it was suggested to be CMCase/endoglucanase. The activity of endoglucanase was enhanced in the presence of MgCl2, CoCl2, FeCl3, CaCl2, FeCl2 and intensive to HgCl2. The purified enzyme showed its optimum activity at pH 5.0 - 6.0 and was quite stable at 50 ° C for 30 min and retained 45% of original activity.
Biocontrol of aflaroot and dry root rot of groundnut by transgenic Rhizobium

Abstract: Aflaroot (Aspergillus flavus) and dry root rot (Aspergillus niger) are known to cause considerable loss of groundnut (Arachis hypogea L.). Rhizobial isolates were obtained from the nodules of groundnut and wild legumes such as Indigofera linifolia, I. duthiei, Alysicarpus tetraganolobus and Tephrotia pumila. Pseudomonas fluorescens was isolated from rhizosphere of groundnut and noted to be antagonistic to A. flavus and A. niger. This was also confirmed by plasmid analysis. The horizontal gene transfer from P. fluorescens to Rhizobium was obtained. The transconjugants were used for biocontrol of aflaroot and dry root rot. The percentage control efficacy (PCE) was better due to application of transconjugants.
CONFIRMING LOCATION OF NITROGEN FIXING GENES ON PLASMIDS IN RHIZOBIUM ISOLATED FROM PISUM SATIVUM

Abstract: To confirm the location of the nitrogen fixing genes whether on the plasmids or on the genomic DNA the Rhizobial isolates isolated from pea (Pisum sativum) were treated with acridine orange with various concentrations and fixed nitrogen was estimated from the media in which these rhizobia were grown. There was no significant difference in between the cured and non cured strains of the Rhizobium which proved that the nitrogen fixing genes are not plasmid borne but these are located on the genomic DNA.
Some Generalizations of Mulit-Valued Version of Schauder?s Fixed Point Theorem with Applications

Este resultado es aplicado para obtener una versión generalizada del teorema del punto fijo Krasnoselskii y algunas alternativas de tipo Leray-Schauder para aplicaciones multi-valuadas cerradas en espacios de Banach.
Genetic diversity among Indian phytopathogenic isolates of Fusarium semitectum Berkeley and Ravenel  [PDF]

Abstract: We report total ten isolates of F. semitectum recovered from different hosts. Identity of these isolates was determined by morphological and cultural characteristics and confirmed by RAPD-PCR analysis using forty random primers. Morphologically all the ten isolates showed similarity, but based on RAPD-PCR analysis, these isolates can be categorized in three groups depending upon similarity co-efficient. Genetic similarity coefficients between pair wise isolates varied from 0.00 to 1.95 based on an unweighted paired group method of arithmetic average (UPGMA) cluster analysis. RAPD-PCR technique can be used as an important tool for the genetic differentiation among isolates of F. semitectum.
Ab-Initio Structural Study of SrMoO3 Perovskite  [PDF]

Abstract: The equilibrium crystal structure parameter and bulk modulus of the SrMoO3 perovskite has been calculated with ab-initio method based on density functional theory (DFT) using both local density approximation (LDA) and generalized gradient approximation (GGA). The corresponding total free energy along with its various components for SrMoO3 was obtained. The lattice parameter and bulk modulus calculated for SrMoO3 within LDA are 3.99 A and 143.025 GPa respectively whereas within GGA are 4.04 A and 146.14 GPa respectively, both agree well with the available experimental data. The total energy calculated within LDA and GGA is almost the same however lower results are obtained for GGA. All calculations have been carried out using ABINIT computer code.

Effects Of Metals On The Natural Freshwater Plankton Assemblage Reared In The Laboratory

Abstract: The effect of heavy metals on plankton was examined. The growth response of plankton assemblage to different concentrations of metals like iron, chromium, cadmium and zinc were evaluated by means of a static laboratory bioassay. It was also demonstrated that the plankton shows a stimulatory effect at low concentration of zinc and chromium. An increase in metal concentration caused a significant reduction in the growth of plankton cells.
