úlcera gastroduodenal em potros
Dearo, Antonio Cezar de Oliveira;Lopes, Marco Aurélio Ferreira;
Ciência Rural , 1995, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-84781995000200027
Abstract: among the great number of pathologies that affect young horses, gastric ulcers are considered one of the most important. murray et al. (1987) working with clinically normal foals established a prevalence of gastric ulcers of 51%. the same author after carrying out 1988). although its aethiology hasn't been well established, a variety of factors are suspected to be involved in its genesis, where stress plays an important role. a disruption of the balance between protective and aggressive factors is suggested and once the last is predominant the ulcer would be established. according to the kind, presence or absence of clinical signs, the locadon of lesions on gastric mucosa and its complications, four clinical syndromes are described in foals: 1) silent ulcers, 2) active ulcers, 3) perforated ulcers and 4) gastric or duodenal obstruction. diagnosis should be based on history, clinical signs, response to treatment and mainly on endoscopic findings. gastric ulcers can be treated with drugs such as acid secretions inhibitors, local antacids, mucosal protectants, prostaglandin analogs and motility stimulants. if necessary, the surgical treatment can be used.

DEARO, Antonio Cezar de Oliveira;LOPES, Marco Aurélio Ferreira;GANDOLFI, Waldir;
Brazilian Journal of Veterinary Research and Animal Science , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S1413-95961999000100006
Abstract: gastric ulcer accounts for an important cause of abdominal discomfort in young horses. concerning either the presence or absence of clinical signs and their variations, the lesions location in the gastric mucosa and complications resulting from ulcerative lesions, four clinical syndromes have been described in foals: 1) asymptomatic or silent ulcers; 2) symptomatic or active ulcers; 3) perforated ulcers; and 4) gastric or duodenal obstruction. with the aim of studying the distribution of lesions (ulcers and/or erosions) and desquamations from the non-glandular epithelium in the gastric mucosa of young horses and a possible relationship between both alterations (lesion/desquamation), sixty quarter horse foals without signs of gastric disease underwent gastroscopy. foals were divided by age in four groups of 15 animals as follows: 1 to 30 days, 31 to 60 days, 61 to 90 days and 91 to 120 days. lesions were most prevalent in the stratified squamous epithelial mucosa mainly adjacent to the margo plicatus along the greater curvature followed by squamous mucosa next to the cardia along the lesser curvature, glandular and non-glandular fundus and antrum. regions of the fundus and margo plicatus were similarly affected by desquamations. there was no association between lesions and desquamations occurrence.

Oliveira, Jardel Alves de;Luz, José Aurélio Medeiros da;Ferreira, Eliomar Evaristo;
Rem: Revista Escola de Minas , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0370-44672006000400006
Abstract: bench scale flotation experiments were performed testing three anionic collectors here called "partially hydrogenated hidrocol", "non hydrogenated hidrocol" (very similar oils from soybean) and oleic acid, with saponification degrees of 40 %, 55 %, 70 %, 85 % and 100 %, in order to purify carbonatitic phosphate ores from tapira. the value of flotation ph was 9.5. a refined babassu oil sample (extracted from the babassu palm seed kernel) did not achieve a saponification degree above 40 %. using the p2o5 content and recovery, the cao/p2o5 ratio and mgo content of the concentrate as quality indicators, the best results were achieved with the saponification degree of 55%, for the oils tested. cleaner lab flotation tests were carried out using the collectors with a saponification degree of 55%, at ph 9.5, in the absence and in the presence of ke883b (alkyl sulphosuccinate). the best results were obtained to the "partially hydrogenated hidrocol" in the absence of ke883b. starch was used as the depressant in all tests.

Abstract: damage to the hemispheric white matter is observed both in multiple sclerosis (ms) and normal aging, causing neuropsychological deficits in tasks of executive function, working memory (wm), and speed of information processing (speed). in this study two main hypotheses were investigated: (a) that speed may constitute a determining factor of wm impairment in ms patients and in aging individuals; (b) that self-reported depressive symptoms may aggravate cognitive deficits in ms patients. the study investigated 31 elderly ms patients without depression, 36 depressed ones, 108 demographically comparable controls and 100 community recruited senior participants. performance of the groups was compared on a self-report measure of depression and on a wm test battery. results showed that wm performance depends on speed, depressive symptoms, age, and schooling - variables which interact in complex ways.

Abstract: It is recorded the occurrence of Pyemotes tritici (Lagréze-Fossat & Montagné) on Cathartus quadricollis (Guérin-Méneville) and Callosobruchus maculatus (Fabricius), reducing insect’s populations in laboratory conditions. This mite was observed feeding on larvae and pupae of C. quadricollis, and adults of C. maculatus. The mite toxin quickly paralyzed larvae and adults attacked. The mite P. tritici is a lethal problem for mass rearing of insects and its effective eradication ultimately depends on the periodic monitoring of the insect colonies. As result, the mite P. tritici can be a new alternative for the biological control of C. quadricollis and C. maculatus in stored products. However, this possibility must be better understood before it could be recommended, because Pyemotes sp. could also cause dermatitis in the humans.
