Advances in Applied Sociology (AASoci) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/aasoci.2018.810039
Abstract: Purpose of the Review: Some physiopathological mechanisms that could support the relationship between tobacco and silicosis have been postulated but exact pathogenesis remains unknown. Recent Findings: Local inflammation in workers with silicosis is a complex process characterized by an infiltration of inflammatory cells in the respiratory alveolus, accompanied by an increase in the expression of cytokines, chemokines, enzymes, growth factors and adhesion molecules. Although in smokers without silicosis a similar pattern of inflammation can be observed, in workers with silicosis this process seems to be characterized by more pronounced increases in structural damage in the lungs. Altered balance of innate and adaptive immunity both play key roles in the pathogenesis of extensive fibrosis in a molecular level, influenced by individual susceptibilities and genetic traits. Conclusion: The identification of the molecular mechanism and a potential protective genotype for silicosis opens a window for the eradication of this occupational respiratory disease. This should encourage us to continue exploring and searching for the relation between the genetic polymorphism and the inorganic silica particle.

Abstract: around Abra Apacheta, in Cangallo (Ayacucho) and Huaytara (Huancavelica) Provinces. The aims of this study were: to study vascular floristic composition of High Andes (over 4500 m of altitude) and characterize highland vegetation. There were used conventional techniques for botanical collection and vegetation coverage measurements by intersection-line transects and Point Quadrat modifyed method. There were registered 134 species of vascular plants (Pteridophytes, Gymnospems, Eudicots and Monocots) grouped in 60 genera and 23 families. Eudicots were the dominant group with 74% of the total registered, 82% in genera and 77% in species; followed by Monocots with 13%, 13% and 21% in the previous categories. Monilophytes (ferns) were poorly represented by two families (9%), two genera (3%) and two species (1%); while Gymnosperms only registered one specie (Ephedra rupestris Benth.). By the quantitative analysis three types of plant communities associated to cryoturbated soils were characterized, we also report two types of associated vegetation: grasslands and rocky areas.

Abstract: bacground: the change in the epidemiological pattern undergone by meningococcal disease in a large part of the country in the 1996-1997 season and the decision to intervene by means of a mass vaccination campaign in the age group between 18 months and 19 years of age, using a bivalent polyssacharide vaccine, justified to enhance the epidemiological surveillance of this disease. methods: rates and other indicators of incidence and mortality were calculated for the 1998-1999 campaign by serogroup and age, according to the data notified to the compulsory disease reporting system. results: the overall incidence was higher than the previous season, although, the rate ratio did not indicate a significantly greater risk. a statistically significant increase in the rate of incidence caused by serogroup b was registered, and for the second consecutive year, the serogroup c rate dropped, although not significantly. there was an increase in the number of deaths. the fatality rate due to serogroup c increased in the group between 1 and 4 years of age. the incidence remained high and with a clear seasonal pattern in the communities that did not vaccinate. in the remainder, the incidence dropped and the seasonal pattern disappeared. conclusions: two years after the campaign, the predominance of serogroup b cases is generalised in all of the autonomous communities, except in the three where the immunisation was not performed. in the latter, in the course of the last two years, serogroup c has predominated. in the communities where the vaccination campaign was carried out, there is an increase in the incidence, although not significantly, among children under 4 years of age.

Abstract: the bulbocavernous reflex is an electromyographic test that assists in diagnosing sexual erectile dysfunction by organic causes, specially those of neurologic origin since this reflex latency is of great help for determining the integrity of sacral spinal cord (s2-s4). this test should be applied to every diabetic patient with sexual erectile dysfunction and to patients with sacral segment lesions. nervous and sensitive conduction velocity of the penis and its cortical somatosensory evoked potentials complete the results of the bulbocavernous test. the importance of this test as well as the way in which it is performed in medical practice were discussed

Antiplatelet therapy used to be the only way to prevent further cerebrovascular events in patients with carotid stenosis. After publication of final results of the European Carotid Surgery Trial (ECST) and North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy Trial (NASCET), endarterectomy was considered the best treatment option. Currently, endovascular treatment of atherosclerotic carotid artery stenosis has been established as an alternative to surgical endarterectomy. Our aim is to show the evolution of endovascular therapy in carotid stenosis, to compare outcomes between endovascular, medical and surgical treatments, and to analize the current state of endovascular therapy. It is worth underscoring that many of the studies were conducted decades ago and consequently both the endovascular technique and medical treatments used then greatly differ from current practices. Several studies agree stenting benefits patients under 70 years of age and exhibits, at least, same short-term results as endarterectomy, along with higher rate of long-term restenosis. Indication for treatment in asymptomatic patients and the use of protection systems remain an unresolved issue. A multidisciplinary team should implement an individualized treatment plan for each patient.

Se analizó la importancia de esta prueba y cómo se realiza en la práctica médica The bulbocavernous reflex is an electromyographic test that assists in diagnosing sexual erectile dysfunction by organic causes, specially those of neurologic origin since this reflex latency is of great help for determining the integrity of sacral spinal cord (S2-S4).
