La aplicación de Técnicas de Ordenación Multivariadasen la Entomología
Mangeaud,Arnaldo;
Revista de la Sociedad Entomol?3gica Argentina , 2004,
Abstract: ordenation methods are multivariate technics used a lot in entomology. at this forum is presented an introduction to ordination methods and a short explanation over different technics: principal component analysis (pca), redundancy analysis (ra). correspondence analysis (ca). canonical correspondence analysis (cca). detrended correspondence analysis (dca) principal coordinate analysis (pcoa). factor analysis (fa), structural equation models (sem) and procrustes method.
Effects of larval crowding on development time, survival and weight at metamorphosis in Aedes aegypti (Diptera: Culicidae)
Maciá,Arnaldo;
Revista de la Sociedad Entomol?3gica Argentina , 2009,
Abstract: the effects of larval crowding on survival, weight at metamorphosis and development time were assessed in the dengue mosquito, aedes aegypti l., under a controlled environment. larval cohorts were bred at 7 different densities (4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 larvae / 175 ml pot), while keeping constant water volume and food amount and quality, under controlled temperature and photoperiod. natural detritus, mainly leaves, obtained from containers naturally colonized by a. aegypti, were used as a source of nutrients for larvae. development time, mortality, mass at metamorphosis, and total biomass were recorded for each density. development time ranged from 4 to 23 days in males, and from 5 to 24 in females, whereby larvae took longer to develop at 64 (females) and 128 (males) larvae per recipient. at high densities there was a male-biased sex proportion. at densities equal to or higher than 0.4 larvae/ml (0.32 larvae/cm2) there was an increase of mortality. an inverse relationship between larval density and pupal weight was detected. biomass per individual reached asymptotic values of about 1 mg/individual at a density of 128 individuals/pot (0.64 larvae/cm2). this experiment shows that this southern strain of a. aegypti is sensitive to crowding in small containers.
A constru??o do conceito de criminoso na sociedade capitalista: um debate para o Servi?o Social
Xavier, Arnaldo;
Revista Katálysis , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S1414-49802008000200013
Abstract: violence, in some form, has always been present in human history, assuming different characteristics in different social and economic contexts. it is the focus of the subject discussed in this article1, above all in contemporary urban capitalist society. based on a history of criminal law, this paper analyzes the central place of the concept of the criminal during the history of modern society. based on the observed data the article reflects on the eruption of individual violence in detriment to other forms of violence present in the capitalist social order. it examines how the processes of criminalization and social control employed by the state apparatus elect a common enemy to be combated: the delinquent. supported by critical criminology theory, it discusses the contributions of these ideas to social work and how social workers can use them in their education and professional activity.

The Short Life of the Bank of Ethiopia
Arnaldo Mauri
Acta Universitatis Danubius : Oeconomica , 2010,
Abstract: The Bank of Abyssinia, established in 1905, was given a 50-years concession by theEmperor Menelek II. This institution was engaged in issuing notes as well as in any kind ofcommercial banking business. Haile Sellassie, after acceding to the throne in 1930, could not acceptthat the country’s issuing bank was a foreign-owned share company and decided for nationalization.The change was implemented, however, in a soft way, providing an adequate compensation toshareholders, and in agreement with the main foreign shareholder, the National Bank of Egypt. TheBank of Abyssinia went, therefore, into liquidation and a new institution, the Bank of Ethiopia, wasestablished in 1931. The new bank, although under full Government control, retained management,staff, premises and clients of the ceased financial institution. Italian occupation of the country, in1936, brought the liquidation of the Bank of Ethiopia.
Monetary Developments and Decolonization in Ethiopia (1941-1952)
Arnaldo Mauri
Acta Universitatis Danubius : Oeconomica , 2010,
Abstract: The article analyses the reorganization process of the monetary setting in Ethiopia which started in 1941 along with decolonization, when the Italian colonial rule came to an end. The country regained independence and the former Ethiopian empire was restored. The monetary reform in Ethiopia after the liberation during World War II, was a necessary measure to be adopted. Different paths however could have been followed at that moment by the Ethiopian government. The crucial choice made in money matter was to re-establish a national monetary unit instead of keeping the country inside the East African shilling area, as it was envisaged in British designs for the post-war setting of the Horn of Africa. The Ethiopian project unpredictably prevailed at the end of a weary negotiation, due to the chiefly American support in the framework of a new role gained by the United States in this area. The Ethiopian Authorities were, as a consequence, enabled to free themselves from dependence on Great Britain.
